What you wish you knew before the sleeve
nervousnellie replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There was another post that asked this last week. I just thought I'd mention so you can read those responses too if you can find the thread. I'm sure there will be some different responses -
I'm on puree and haven't eaten a whole lot yet. However, I made deviled eggs last night and they taste sooo good! (hard boiled eggs are on my list--i just chew them up a lot). Otherwise, I blended some tuna salad and that was fine. I also blended chili--I didn't love it. The only other thing I have eaten is refried Beans mixed with taco sauce and greek yogurt with cheese on top. It was good!

GIVING a massage one week post-op?
nervousnellie replied to 1stBabeBorn5th's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not a massage therapist but I get massages often. I know my massage therapist work very hard! I just thought I would say that I am 10 days post op and just today starting to feel "normal" again. I think the hardest part was that I have been soooo tired. I worry that your energy level will be low. Best of luck! -
Steri strips
nervousnellie replied to amandalynn76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took mine off day 9 post op. The edges were just getting dirty underneath and my incisions were fully closed. -
Hernia question
nervousnellie replied to watchout4thebiggurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a hiatal hernia I knew nothing about. Had terrible acid reflux without taking omeprazole daily. I am still taking the meds b/c I am only 10 days post op but I hope to go off them eventually since I had the repair. -
Allergic Reaction?
nervousnellie replied to hope4health's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Also---I know someone whose husband had a severe reaction to the interaction of the betadine solution and adhesive and it resulted in burns. That was super rare, but it happened. -
Allergic Reaction?
nervousnellie replied to hope4health's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am allergic to latex, but have never had a reaction that severe. It definitely could be though. Do you have an urgent care clinic you can go to? That may be faster than the ER. I would definitely try to get it looked at sooner rather than later. Good Luck! -
new way to think about getting in protein
nervousnellie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a childhood friend who I haven't see in many years. I recently learned that she is a nutritionist for a bariatric practice. We have been communicating through facebook. Her last message was checking on me to see if I was getting in my Protein and how difficult it can be. Here is what she said. "If you do the math, at 2oz every 15 minutes, you need to drink for at least 8 hours a day! That's full time work!" (she was talking about me specifically only being a week post-op.) It is full time work!!! It takes a lot of diligence to get that protein in when you can barely sip. So, if you've been able to do it regularly, give yourself a pat on the back! -
glad it's dropped!

Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
nervousnellie posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't really know why I've been thinking about this but I have been. I read these boards constantly and it seems that most people say they have been overweight since childhood. Has anyone not? I was not a heavy child, teen or even young adult. In my mid to late twenties, it is like my body just decided it was going to hold on to lots of extra weight no matter what I did. Like everyone here, I tried absolutely everything I could to lose weight---I was never successful. I didn't lose a bunch and regain--I never lost--just got bigger and bigger. I had tons of medical tests and was never dx with any medical reason for the gain. I am curious as to whether this type of history has any different outcome with the success of surgery. Or, do people who have been heavy forever have more/less/same success than people who just struggled as adults? Again, just a curiosity of mine... -
That's frustrating. I take it you're post-op? If so, how long out? I had a low grade fever for a few days after too. If it gets any higher, I would probably go to the ER or at least an urgent care place. Good luck!

Anyone else considering sleeve with BMI ~32
nervousnellie replied to highhopes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is really hard for me to shut out other people's opinions so I know what you are going through. I was not anywhere near in the frame of mind to have surgery when my BMI was 32, but that doesn't mean it's wrong for you. This is such a personal journey and only you can know what is best for you. Good luck with the decision making process! -
Gas-X! A lot of people like the strips, but I prefer the gelcaps. I am 9 days out and still take 2-3 a day. The gas in my stomach is crazy!

never knew refried beans could taste like heaven : )
nervousnellie posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just had my first pureed food tonight. I took some refried beans, mixed in some greek yogurt and Chohula Sauce. Stirred it all together and scooped into muffin pans (purely for portion control). Topped with cheese and heated in the oven. Yum! I really have missed savory flavors other than cream of chicken soup : ) Cant wait to decide what to puree tomorrow! -
Very doctor dependent. I never had any either.

Favorite Food Just made me sick!
nervousnellie replied to tiffy0485's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a week post op and haven't eaten food yet, so I don't know about eating it. However, I know that my sense of smell seems to be crazy intense right now. When my hubby cooks dinner, some smells make me nauseous that never would have before. -
Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
nervousnellie replied to nervousnellie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Gosh, I really hope my original post didn't sound judgmental!!! I feel bad now. It was really just an open, honest question about weight history being different among people and how it affects us all now. -
Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
nervousnellie replied to nervousnellie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know....I am not comparing my struggle as being worse/better, etc.... I was just curious about how people who have different histories have succeeded with the surgery outcomes. Sorry if the OP sounded rude...I totally didn't mean it that way!!! -
I wish I would've known that before
nervousnellie replied to Prettynpink1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I think I really underestimated how long recovery takes. I know that sounds dumb, but I was super determined that I was going to feel great quick. I'm one week out and I don't feel horrible by any means, but I still feel tired, crampy and like not doing anything. I wish I had more reasonable expectations while still maintaining my positive attitude -
Sleeved yesterday
nervousnellie replied to NJGurl19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a week out and still having spasms. I have been assured it is normal and will improve! I do notice that plain Water is the worst. Good luck in your recovery! -
Sooo hungry!
nervousnellie replied to Jessiegurl2686's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you think it's head hunger, or real stomach hunger? I'm one week out today and I have stomach pains (kinda like a cramp) and I wonder if it's hunger. I just still don't feel good enough to even think about solids (even if it is real hunger). I don't even know if that makes sense....haha! -
I am 6 days post op and I have no Idea what any of the different feelings I have been having with my stomach mean. I don't know what means hunger, what means gas, what means I'm full, etc... The one that concerns me the most is when I drink straight Water. I get a sharp pain that lasts for approx 2-4 seconds and then is gone. Doesn't seem to happen with other liquids. I tried to look this up on the forum but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!
