Question for those in Manhattan/NYC Area or have been lately...
SimplyMe posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm going to NYC for a few days and I was curious.... Where I live it is not an issue whatsoever to split a meal with someone. My daughter and a few friends are going and I always split a meal and wondering if most restaurants in Manhattan are okay with that or do I need to show them my Lap-Band card or if most charge an extra plate charge? Thanks! -

Question for those in Manhattan/NYC Area or have been lately...

Thanks!......any recommendations for "must shops" or "must eats"? I've been once and so excited about shopping and seeing the city at Christmas! -
I believe everyone has "issues"!!!! Lol! But whatever learn from your mistakes and move on! For me the best thing after having the lapband was the sheer pleasure of food was gone! For me that is a miracle! Food was a comfort to me. And yes sometimes just laziness and overeating! Whatever....doesn't really matter. I don't think about food as much anymore. When I eat its slowly and I savor what small amount I get! So I guess "issues" resolved! Good Luck! Have fun!

LOL! PB virginity! Popped your cherry huh?!? AT least for the most part it is controlled by our own efforts!

Anyone else like me sitting here on the internet instead of plowing into the "easy to go down.....Halloween candy" at their front door!?!
-
To me candy is.....lollipops; chocolate; candy bars (definitely Snickers!!!); jelly Beans....basically anything yummy and good! I sent all our leftover candy to my husband's office....far out of my reach!!!!

Well....I just ate some catfish so I feel stronger now!!!!!

How will I know if something gets stuck

I guess its a different feeling to me.....just a horrible uncomfortable feeling.....not really pain! -
Poll - what causes you the biggest problem to get down?
SimplyMe replied to Boysaway's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Calamari! I'm not even sure why I would even try it but I did early in my journey!.....Basically everything else goes down if I chew really well and take my time....unless my band is feeling mischievious for some reason at that chosen moment for that chosen food....I think I may have to name my band....she has a mind of her own! -
How do you get used to 'leaving food behind' ?
SimplyMe replied to Mrs SmartyPants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think for me at least the band has given me that freedom of not wanting food constantly! After a while I started to realize that I just didn't need as much food! I love going to restaurants now because I can eat what I want but not as much! I don't pig out anymore right before I "diet" again because I'm not deprived of anything. Don't get me wrong because I can still eat all "wrong" foods now and not lost and even gain sometimes! But this is such a new lifestyle for me I love it! If I order in a restaurant I share a plate or eat an appetizer. If I fix a plate at home I use a small dinner plate. I think for me eating slow; chewing well; and small portions. If I overeat it just hurts! And I burp ALOT! Not very attractive! Good luck! I understand this doesn't work for everyone but for me it was the missing tool I needed! For it to work I must do my job! But I would do it over and over again if I had to! -
do you exercise? and if you don't....DO! and if you do change up your routine! (i.e., change cardio, do weights, do circuit, etc.) I agree with Metal.....fill time? food right? Protein first....then veggies....avoid carbs?
-
I think you can take the "hope this works" off of your fill!!!! Must be working awesomely!!!! Congratulations!!!!
-
I actually found out for myself what was too tight! After my last fill I could not even get Water to go down.......horrible feeling.....came right back up! UGHHHH! Went back in after 30 minutes and got an unfill! I've had fills before when things just seemed "slow".....then I lost weight and it got looser! Good luck!
-
Just wondering....does anyone have VERY erratic restriction....this last month has me confused....I mean one day EVERYTHING seems to go down nicely whether I chew slow or well and then the next Water when i work out seems to take a minute to go down and I get stuck on what I chewed very well and then the next seems like little to no restriction! Before this restriction seemed to be fairly predictable......right after a fill.....tight....until I lose the weight then it loosens up...or maybe stress or my feminine cycle could influence it a bit. Anyway just confused....any advice....suggestions...comments?

Then somedays I'm REALLY REALLY ungraceful!!!!!!!

Thank you so much! Your insight really helps! I don't post much because I'm too busy reading everyone else's posts! But it really helps to know someone else has experienced something similar!

Yep.....had surgery on Thursday......thought I would go to church but I looked 9 months pregnant with quadruplets! Walked....walked and walked........no clothes but baggy shorts fit! But it did get better!!!!!!!!
-
I was told I could do any exercises I wanted to....the "port" would let me know if I need to slow down! And it does! It still gets sore if I've really concentrated on abs but I can understand that! It hasn't stopped me from doing exercises though!
-
I agree I have to stay after my fills for 30 minutes with a water bottle in my hand! If you can't get water down......too tight!!!
-
Yep! Me too on my first fill! It stinks!!!! I asked the nurse practitioner and x-ray tech and they agreed they get that complaint ALL the time! Bandster Hell I suppose....but man my 2nd fill did the trick and I just had my third one this week! I swear it gets better!

Is the port stitched down or floating?
SimplyMe replied to smiseel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's stitched to your abdomen wall with sutures! That's why the port site was the sorest after surgery!!!!! -
Tricia....you're the kind of con that inspires me! :clap2:

savery.....I think you are asking very direct and honest questions! I for one researched the lapband thoroughly before having it done and it was the best thing I did! I had friends that had it done and to be honest it has not really worked for them! For me.....well so far I think it was the best decision for me! I have been as small as a size 4 and as large as a 24! I can lose weight but at 46 I had grown tired! I wanted a little extra help! That extra tool! I think the lapband only works if you consider it a tool....not the cure-all! I can now enter a restaurant without the fear of eating everything in sight! My binges now consist of maybe one night eating "easy to go down" carbs like a small bag of M&M's instead of a week of grazing! Just make sure it is right thing for you! Ask all the "rude" questions you need! LOL! It'll be worth it in the end!
