50 lbs gone forever!! -
I'm a therapist and have worked with kids for 20 yrs. I'm not saying I'm a know it all bc I certainly don't. But more of my patients were very damaged from being obese in early childhood development which spilled into adulthood and progressed into addiction and many other issues. I say break the cycle early...the earlier the better. Mom, you know mainly bc of genetics and experience that she doesn't have a shot in hell. As an addiction therapist I see so many addicts who would've done anything to have stopped the progression of the disease. And as an addict, bc of the genetic factor on both sides, I didn't stand a chance. If only I had known this at an early age maybe I would have never taken that first drink or hit. It's not about will power...if it was none of us would be here. It's about management and I have learned to use the sleeve to manage my addiction. Now, if I could only find a "sleeve" for drugs and alcohol...I wouldn't think twice! And by the way, I think 14 is a good age developmentally bc it may save her from a lifetime of trauma...which means therapy for life. Just my two cents. I have a daughter....a pretty hefty daughter big surprise. I think I would do everything I could to manage her disease. Good luck!

Will someone explain to me the physiology of losing inches and not losing weight? I've been at a stall pound wise but losing inches steady. It's not repositioning....everything is smaller. I'm not understanding how one can get smaller but not lose weight. Help me understand!

too many calories, struggling.....
leigh1111 replied to chinamama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can hardly get in more than 500 calories a day but I do get 50-65g of protein. I drink Premier Protein shakes which are good and have 30g. You'd be surprised how few calories meat and cheese have, which is really all I eat. Also protein bars low in calories taste pretty good. Quest bars are my favorite. -

What do you do when your coordinator is avoiding you?
leigh1111 replied to NotLookinBack's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl I don't think you are overreacting. My doc and staff were just as eager as I was to have the surgery for both of our benefits. What about the nurse? Tell them how you feel appropriately of course and plead your case. If it's a hospital someone always has a boss. Good luck. I feel extremely lucky as I had surgery less than 6 weeks from my first appointment. -

I see...wow...thank you -
I know what you mean. Although I get enough Protein my sugar gets low. I am diabetic and I've realizes that along with protein I also need some carbs. I had a spell yesterday which does feel horrible and found that my sugar was low so I ate a few carbs and felt tons better. I focus on protein but I also have to have some carbs for my blood sugar. Also I've been dehydrated before and that was miserable....tired and weak but not as shaky as with low bloods. Good luck!

Damn.. you are HOT!! Congrats and yes...we all worry about that...esp when you see so many gastric bypass folks years later who have gained all of their weight back. But honestly I've never seen any sleevers who have gained their weight back. Relax and quit worrying. You've beeb hit by the "Damn I didn't know this hot dude was inside this whole time" bug and that's motivation enough to not go back. -
BMI exactly 40, will I be denied if i lose any weight?
leigh1111 replied to missmee's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am not gonna even lie...I gained about 12 lbs before surgery bc I was afraid of the same thing. Plus in my addicted mind I knew I was changing my relationship with food forever after surgery so I binged a couple weeks before. Two months later I'm down 37 lbs and am glad that I did what I had to do to get my new stomach. -
I was sleeved two months ago. I have called the nurse twice because I have this excruciating pain run through my left shoulder every time I drink or eat anything. As a result I havent gotten my liquids or protein in and I fear I am dehydrated. The nurse set me up with an appointment Monday. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I know it's probably gas but man this is painful and I dread every time I eat or drink. Oh and gas X has not helped. Help!

Nightmares and worries
leigh1111 replied to Autumnrain1908's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I also started with the same BMI of 38. It's weird for me because I'll lost a bunch at once and then stall for a week or more. BUT I have to remind myself that in two months I've lost 37 lbs! I think it would be quicker but severe gas pain in my shoulder still makes it hard to eat and drink. I was indecisive at first between the sleeve and bypass because let's face it...I didn't wanna lose a little I want to lose A LOT. But I tell ya I don't want the complications that come from RNY...my mom and cousin had it and have had ulcers and malnutrition. Trust me...keep looking at pics from this site and you will see TONS of people with our same stats making goal. This site was and is my inspiration and reminds me that it WILL happen. I figure that I will do whatever it takes to make goal in one year. That's only one more year of being fat!! Hang in there...you made the right decision and will love your sleeve! -
horrible left shoulder pain
leigh1111 replied to leigh1111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually the straw helps A LOT because it prevents me from gulping. If I get the air out before the actual sip I don't get any gas. I found that it does help with gas pain too. -
