I am 52 years old. Earlier this year I went 5 months without getting my period, then I got it back a month before surgery. (this requiring me to take pregnancy tests before every procedure - and even delayed my surgery for 1/2 hour while they looked for my test results!) At any rate, since we are dropping so much weight - and even my NUT says I am starving my body - wouldn't you think My period would stop? I got it one week post op and now again at six weeks. Did any of you find that the sleeve altered your schedule? Really at my age and now with this new diet I expected to be done!

Chocolate cappuccino protein shake ...one scoop (not the 2 suggested serving size), Java pro (1/2 scoop -- 1.5 is a serving), ice, almond mild, mixed in a blender. Yumm! I found java pro too strong on its own.

How the heck do you keep your carbs under 50 when a banana is 30 carbs?!
SkinnyScrapper replied to kclaws's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't. Count carbs I just don't eat any pure carbs. ..bread, pasta, rice, cereal, potatoes. If there are a few carbs in other foods that is fine but I always look for more protein than carbs. I finally learned to eat salad at 7 months and that was great. Fruit is ok for me...but small amounts. -
Rating protein powders

I just finished a Jay Robb orange...like a creamsicle. I also like the pina colada flavor, but not as good. My all time favorite is Chocorite - peanut butter & chocolate and also the Cappuccino - very good. Click is also good for an iced coffee experience. I tried java pro but that is really a strong coffee flavor, even when I only use half, and not whey Protein. I have been combining one scoop with a scoop of vanilla Isopure, that is OK until I use it up. Also, I really like Matrix strawberry cream. -

Starting my pre op friday 5-23
SkinnyScrapper replied to momheartsdad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was only allowed three shakes per day, plus sf Jello and sf ice pops. The first 2 days were tough...then after that I didn't mind it as much. I felt this was the beginning of my journey and just something I had to do..I didn't crave food after those 2 days. You will make it through...a little at a time. -
Mothers day scheduled at a buffet ... Lol

My family scheduled my mom's 80th birthday celebration when I was 10 days post op at an Italian restaurant! I did ok. Just took a bite of some ricotta for an appetizer and then had the broth Only in the tortellini soup. You I'll find you can work your way around most meals. 0pizza and Pasta are the only challenge for me if nothing else is available. You will do fine and don't worry about wasting did or money. Your health comes first! -
Matrix makes a decent unflavored protein ..no smell. Get or at bariatric choice.

Losing pounds but not sizes
SkinnyScrapper replied to Jaguilar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way....I thought I was going to be in 24s forever. I realize now that I was really a 26 and squeezing into 24's. It was about 40 lbs before I started changing sizes. The sizes change faster now - need fewer lbs to go down one size when the sizes are smaller. I am losing more slowly but the sizes are going down :-) -
Chocolite Peanut Butter chocolate is the best in my opinion. I get it at Bariatic choice. Let me know if you want a referral code for 20% off. I also really like Matrix strawberry (and their unflavored is really great at 40 calories a scoop) - also at Bariatric Choice. GNC Cookies and Cream is good, too. I have several flavors that I try different ones every day. I love my shakes with unsweetened almond milk and ice in my nutribullet.

What's your menu consist of?
SkinnyScrapper replied to Kimberlee1383837812's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
9 months out.. Have a protein Shake for breakfast every morning. I love them and I feel better when I start the day with one. Scrambled eggs, egg whites, unjury cheese sauce, ground beef, steak, chicken, lamb, cheese sticks, nuts, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, apples cut up a little at a time, bananas, grapes. Quest bars Mostly protein, few complete carbs (maybe a bite of bread or noodles). A couple protein biscotti is the most I will do. Still working in salads but my surgeon said I should be able to eat them so I am doing a little more each time and happy it is going well! -
Does it just put you in a NEW stage of awkward?
SkinnyScrapper replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have only had one person comment and she was problem trying to find out if I had surgery. After a few months you can eat more anyway, so it is a small amount, but not something to really comment about. In the beginning a few people wondered why I ate only the Protein from my salad (lettuce was still hard for me). It is odd to be on a diet and not eat salad....but I just said I was fine and that was the end of it! -
Thanks...I am thinking I need to talk to my doctor or the surgeon. It's a good idea not to wait too long.

Has anyone felt like they were just "losing it" emotionally? I have a lot of changes right now on my life on top of the VSG ... And there are times that I just want to cry . I wish this would stop...and I can't tell if the physical changes are part of this.

Thanks for the advice on the therapist and exercise - and even the birth control...maybe I can try that now that I am over 50! LOL! Exercise was helping...but I exercised for an hour last night...maybe today is just a bad day. I need to get a good night's sleep!

Thanks for your reply....I've heard some sleevers talk about hormones being released and I am just wondering if this is part of it. I am also wondering what I can do to make this easier (something other than meds...). Exercise? Meditation?
