Vitamins not staying down...
.................. posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my post-op Vitamins on March 15th and have thrown up every time I have taken them. I make sure I have food in my belly before I take them and have given myself a good two weeks to adjust but to no avail!!! Any advice? I will be calling my doc here shortly to see what he suggests! -Thanks' -
Vitamins not staying down...

Update*** Doc had me go off of the Vitamins for a while and start up again with non-chewable. Seems as though the chewables and their fast absorption rate where too much for my new stomach to handle. Doctor recommended finding small pill form vitamins or cutting large pills in half... gummies were also OK'd if chewed well before swallowing! Hit 199 on Monday and feeling great! -
Hi fellow sleevers! Ok... Head hunger has been getting the best of me! I am about a week post-op and find myself thinking of food constantly! I try to keep busy with non food related activities but somehow the thoughts of pizza, sushi, and soda keep sneaking into my head! Aside from a lobotomy (which I fully believe would be my only hope ) how have the rest of you been coping/ coped with this nasty demon?

Ok well that is awesome that you only have to do it for one week! Soups like tomato, and cream of chicken/ mushroom will be your best friend when you get sick of the broth... They really help me now when I get sick of protein shakes and broth! So you don't get bored... Try adding frozen berries to your protein shakes pre-op. I buy no sugar added bags of strawberries, peaches, and mixed berry at Walmart and it helps with the boring and at times yucky taste of the shakes! I love adding lemon juice to my water because I find that the crystal light is wayyyyyy sweet after surgery. I also bought every variety of jello and pudding under the sun because I didn't want to get sick of one flavor, so I rotate. I don't know what your post-op diet will be but much of what I mentioned above I am also doing for my liquid stage which ends in about a week. -
Migraines and VSG

Oh gosh, I hear you... It was very hard for me to find a med that worked! I am very shocked that I haven't had a migraine (they used to be every other day for me). What pre-op diet will you be on? I was on a two week prep that consisted of a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a small meal (meat, veggie/ fruit, and a starch) for dinner. I didn't experience and problems with that with the exception of wanting to snack. I am sure everyone has told you to keep up on your fluids after surgery... It is hard but I will tell you the same thing because it helps, especially for us lucky people who were blessed with migraines! ;/ -

Oh... I forgot to mention that I have been home recovering and taking easy so I haven't been going about my regular activities. I go back to school on Tuesday and am a little nervous if the stress of sitting in a 150+ student lecture hall for 10 hours a day and the stress of homework, tests, and mental exhaustion will bring on a migraine... But my fingers are crossed that it won't, that will be the real test to see if I am cured! -

Hi! I have always been a chronic migrainer... I had my surgery just over a week ago and was also worried because I suffered the same symptoms that you do. Prior to surgery I was taking Propranolol everyday to help prevent my migraines (this medication also treats HBP)... Upon discharge from the hospital my doctor said that I could continue to take the Propranolol or stop if I wanted to. On a whim I decided to stop it... Have not had a migraine since and my blood pressure as been normal. I know that everyone is different when it comes to migraines but for me I just chose to stop it and see if my migraines would improve now that I am not consuming processed junk. I was so worried that being dehydrated would trigger a migraine or that the lack of food would. I can honestly say that I have not experienced even a slight headache, however, the first couple of days after surgery sucked but that was do to nausea and gas and head hunger. I don't know if you take a maintenance medication for your migraines but if you do I don't recommend stopping without talking to your doctor first. Mine gave me the go ahead and it is so nice not to have to remember to take a pill everyday. Good luck to you! -

Thank you everyone for the awesome and thoughtful responses, I really appreciate you all! I keep reminding myself that I chose this surgery for a reason and that reason was to be happier, healthier, and thin! I am having a much easier time today but every day is different! I am glad to hear all of you are surviving it! On a side note... I have been told by others that the food network actually helps, which a few of you have mentioned! I am still scared to click to that channel, but in time I think I will! For now, I'm looking ahead and picturing the day I can wear shorts and have my thighs NOT rub together... Sounds silly but that has been one of my biggest motivations, I live in AZ and it is hotttttttt in the summer! -

I feel your pain! My love affair with food has made me question whether surgery was the right thing for me! I really believe it is and just hope that in time, things will get better.
