  1. I'm quite a bit concerned about being able to drink enough Water post op during times of heavy outdoor workouts and a lot of sweating. When it's hot outside and I'm doing some rigorous activity (digging, mowing, lawn, working in hot shed, moving heavy stuff and generally bustin my ass.......I sweat like crazy in a short amount of time. When I go in the house I'm completely soaked, flushed red and mouth feels dry as a desert. I will then sit in front of a fan blowing and wipe the sweat with a towel as I drink three or four glasses of water in a few minutes, trying to get re hydrated. So, what's the deal after surgery? Sipping just ain't gonna cut it. What do you do? Believe you me, I would love to just chill out relaxing and have someone else do all the work.......but it ain't happening. I don't want to be visiting the ER every other day by gurney to get hydrated by IV. This will be important to the wife too, seeing as I might just have to have her do all the work......
  2. Just how young are you and how long have you been dealing with obesity? Have you ever lost your excess weight with dieting before? How many times? Did you insurance require a Psych. evaluation? These are all things you need to consider to be absolutely sure about this type of surgery. IT IS FOREVER. That means you will be living with the lifestyle changes for the rest of your life. It also means, if there are any complications, you will have to deal with those as well, possibly forever. This is serious stuff. There is no going back. I'm sure these were some of the reasons for your PCP's suggesting you avoid the surgery and try dieting. I'm not preaching or judging. I'm just suggesting you need to really be sure and not rush to surgery as your only option. It needs to be a last resort. Keep in mind.....you WILL be dieting after the surgery and forever. My situation is a no brainer. I'm an ole fart and I suck at dieting and due to medical issues, obesity will kill me if I don't permanently lose the weight. Would I have done it when I was young and healthy? I can't say for sure. All that being said, if you're sure, finding another PCP that will clear you shouldn't be that difficult.
  3. Turn the tables on them and teach 'em a lesson about unsolicited comments. Tell 'em your dying of cancer and this is all you can eat. Or point to them and say....."I eat like this, so I won't look like that" (hey, they asked for it)
  4. I think you have it backwards......"The next step is educating Surgeons????? Surgeons know enough and they are nothing more than the tool. It always has been about knowing what is going to be done to your own body. As adults, we are the only ones responsible for the decisions we make. Some just continue to make them without any insight or understanding of what is going to be done. Even with forums like this, you need to be careful and weigh all the information and avoid the urge to be swayed quickly by random advice. While the advice may be well intended, only you can know your specific needs and how you will adjust to the realities of the outcome. Bottom line. Do your research. The good and the bad. Be honest with yourself about dealing with the possible outcomes. Don't allow yourself to sugar coat it and rush to a decision. They'll be nobody to share the blame with afterwards. And on that note: I also don't want any more obstacles of people telling me what I can or can't do to my own body. The insurance and the Surgeons have enough say already. The decision is mine and needs to remain so.

    Any Miami sleeves?

Yes, I went to one of his seminars and then had an appointment at his office. I feel very confident with his advice, qualifications and experience. He answered all of my questions and changed my mind from wanting the band to the sleeve.

    Medications After Surgery

I take a bunch of pills for a cardiac condition and when I asked my surgeon about dosage & effectiveness after the sleeve, he said irregardless of crushing or taking the pills whole, I would need to run tests to determine the levels and effectiveness of the medications due to possible changes in absorption. Then they would make any adjustments necessary. Just food for thought.
  9. Chill out. Your title is Sleeve vs. Bypass. I just meant you can expect everyone to be touting the virtues of the sleeve over gastric bypass due to the fact that this IS a sleeve forum. As in, more than just slightly biased. And as far as opinions....that is all I offered.. You need to try to be a little more understanding and not so quick to accuse someone when you misunderstand the post. Good luck with your research.
  10. Which study do you want. The ones with the really good outcomes....or, the ones with the not so great results??? Studies usually end up with the results lining up with the viewpoints of the ones conducting them. "Because I have a 40 BMI with diabetes" - That's a statement, not an explanation. I would ask him what does that mean. Elaborate.......Why?? Keep in mind, his answers might be completely different than another Surgeon. I would recommend a second opinion at the very least. (I consulted 5 Surgeons before I had knee replacement surgery and three Bariatric Surgeons before I choose the Sleeve and the surgeon) And finally, this IS a Sleeve forum........just sayin.........

    Approved by insurance, what's next?

Pretty much. Alot of poking and prodding. Just to be sure, you might ask that they take a swab to check for MRSA too. (type of infection) Better safe than sorry.
  12. I gotta say....absolutely fantastic job. Major difference. congrats.
  13. Websters dictionary - "Surgery" When a surgeon........wait wait wait ......we all know the lecture.....but what is the real truth??? You think all that gurgling coming from your insides is just random noise???? If you place a stethoscope on your belly, this is what you'll hear.. "Hey, you out there....didn't you get the memo? REST and Recuperation." It's like Armageddon in here.....slashing and stapling, shoving everything all around, floods and burning and all this vacant space everywhere. Where they'd take that section of the fuel storage warehouse? "What are we supposed to do with all this empty space????" "And you out there using up all the energy......"Cmon, we need that in here!!" "It's bad enough with the fuel shortage now." How we supposed to repair all this mayhem without energy?" Half of us are still stumbling around all groggy from the big sleep"......!! And speaking of fuel supply.....ya wanna watch the quality of that stuff you've been supply'n. "With such a low amount, we need the good stuff. Ya know....the high Protein stuff" "Look, either you stop using up all the energy so we can get the repair work done, or we're going on strike." "And from what I hear those non-union guys that they bring in from that place called the Emergency Room, are a whole lot worse" " So cut us come slack and go easy on the energy out there and we will be able to turn this project over to you much sooner." "And one more thing........No more renovations for awhile" .........and that includes that Plastic thing I got wind of"........."Nice talkin to ya....." What, no stethoscope? Well, take my word for it, that's whats going on....... In the meantime Get some rest!

    Im not ready

"Bingo" perfectly spoken. Nothing wrong with a little help from a "tool".......(and I don't mean me ) I have done everything in my life I have ever set my mind to do.....except keep the weight off !!! I am with you on this one. Without the surgery, I will never accomplish it for the long term. And if I don't.......there will be no long term anything.

    Personnal ? Loads

The amount of ejaculate is determined by the prostate and can be affected by diet as well. Protein is very important to volume too. And as you know, with the sleeve, now, even more. Prostate enlargement can restrict the penis's ability to ejaculate too and can be a sign of more important issues. You might want to have your prostate checked out by a Urologist, just to be sure. And as the others have said, of course the frequency orgasm is a factor.

    Lettuce

Got nothing important to add............I just wanted to see what someone named "Bunny" had to say about lettuce........
  17. My wife says I'm perfect just the way I am........(just goes to show you how skewed people's viewpoint can be). I'm my worst critic, so I know I'll never be perfect. Frankly I'm striving for just staying alive.

Does the sleeve make food a non issue?

I would go for it, but I've been told, in my case the change wouldn't be that noticeable..............what's up with that?!
  19. Recycled

Does the sleeve make food a non issue?

Your looking at it all wrong.......Try this. After the sleeve, picture yourself staring at a very small table right next to you with very small portions of healthy unappetizing foods on it. (just enough to keep you alive) Then right across this, not so very large expanse, is a Large Buffet table loaded with every kind of delicious food and dessert you can imagine. Only the expanse is bottomless quicksand teeming with quicksand sharks ready to devour you. (really, I've heard they really do have quicksand sharks). -- my analogy of course is the quicksand and sharks is my sleeve bursting and causing my dimise-- Can't picture it ???? Well, I can and I'm count'n on them sharks keeping me away from the buffet...........so don't spoil it for me.

    A change is coming.....

OK, here's the deal. You need to listen to exactly what I tell you about what to do. I have known you (hmmmm) for all of two minutes and that far exceeds any 12 year relationship..........ehhhhh! Not!! (do they still use that term) Really? Online personal relationship advice? That's almost as bad as comparing real life to TV.......oops, BTW........I have this gorgeous piece of slightly swampy marsh land down here near Miami, I'm looking to sell............

    PostOp Lifting?

Here's the gold standard for your specific recovery. Go to the lanes, pick up the ball.......throw it down the lane once.........and if you fall to the floor in agonizing pain....."It's too soon." For starters, Ask your Doc.
