  1. I remember I would play a game as I was waiting to go into the OR. They are always expecting your BP to shoot up in anticipation of the surgery so, I would close my eyes each time they came to check my BP and think of getting a soothing deep massage with soft music playing, breathing slow and easy.........and would chuckle when they were shocked to see my BP didn't rise a bit. Plus the exercise is just plain great to stay relaxed. Give it a try and get in the zone. Good luck, see ya on the loser's bench.

I wouldn't mind so much if......

You are seeing the glass half empty. Try looking at is as what you might have gained instead of lost if you did cheat and partake of all those forbidden foods. You are fortifying your resolve to stay with the plan and eventually your habits and desires will change and you won't see passing on those foods as something you missed out on. By staying with it, you have more invested every day and are getting closer and closer to your goal. This is no time to slide back into old habits.

    Pure Protein Bars

It's funny but I just got some Pure Protein bars at costco as well and they didn't have the ones like you got. These are 20g protein and 14 carb. and look different, but also peanut butter/ chocolate. Doesn't make sense but, I guess it depends where the Costco is located. I'm in Miami.

    Sleeve is 100% BETTER

I am not quite a month out and I can get in about 1000 calories in food and Protein drink but usually end up with a net around 300-400 after exercise. I try to get in more, but the 1k is tough enough. And with all the 30min. before and after waiting, getting in the 65+ ounces of liquids seems to be tougher too.

    Vent

I think you mean a drain. And it really depends on your Surgeon.

    Lesson learned

The liquid stage is very misleading as you can typically drink quite a bit more than the sleeve holds. Then comes the puree or the soft foods and you find out the actual size of the sleeve. Usually the hard way......

Dropped 3 pants size in 2 months

Just made a drop off at Salvation Army of three large bags of clothes. And that doesn't count the ones I just threw out. Redid the closet with stuff from storage. It's telling the amount of smaller clothes I had in storage.........Literally tons of size L and 36 pants, then a whole lot less of 38's and XLs. Moving on to 42's and 2X's only about 10 and now everything above that is gone. I obviously disliked buying larger clothes as I grew, and kept the others, always expecting to lose back down. I can't wait to get back into the smallest in the closet. Nevermind actually wanting to go buy new clothes.
  8. The coordinator at my OS office took care of everything. And all the while I bugged her, she kept her cool and was very nice and thorough getting the approval. I never spoke to or contacted the insurance.

    Im scared

Nana, fear is nothing more than - not knowing what lies ahead - . Read this forum, gain the information....apply it to your recovery and you will be aware of what to expect and how to deal with it. Nothing to fear. Relax, you will do just fine.

    3 weeks post sleeve

You're gonna get weird unexpected aches and pains that you've never felt before the surgery. It is most likely just the body healing and getting used to all the re-arranging that has taken place. I spent two hours on the net the other day researching a pain in my chest that worried me, only to conclude it was probably some sort of traveling gas. It went away and so did my concern. I have muscles that are sore now from past lack of use. My sleeping schedule is out of wack. But I'm losing, so who cares. It'll work itself out eventually. All is good.

    2 days out

Your body is your normal......Different strokes for different folks. Your body is your best indicator of what is normal for you. If you're tired, get more rest. If you're in pain, take some pain meds. As far as what to do since surgery. Follow the docs instructions and stick with the post surgery mantra. You're gonna feel lots better in a very short time.

    Pre op liquid hell

What they all said. Just keep thinking......."after all this waiting, this is the final stretch. Don't blow it. I want a good outcome to my surgery.....I can do this.....only a few more days......eat a Popsicle.....get busy doing something to take my mind off of it" We all made it..... you will too.
  13. Funny thing. I lost alot the first week and then in week two I stalled. I ate less, (400cal.) drank more, added more Protein and the scale didn't budge. I read stuff on here and some said eat more calories. Sounded unlikely, but I was discouraged anyway. So I had to work hard to eat more than twice the calories, logged in with fitness pal and noticed how with my biking and walking I was still only netting about 800 a day even with eating so much. Low and behold, instead of gaining like I thought, the scale went down. Go figure. Something to do with starvation mode when you eat too little. Who would have thought I'd actually have to work at eating MORE to lose more. Whatever the reasoning, I'm gonna follow more of what is suggested and less of what I think should work. I don't know why I'm surprised.....my way of eating never worked for me before, so I will be relearning everything since WLS,
  14. And was there a reason for this or is this just your Surgeons usual practice? Seems quite overboard.

    protein

I have no idea what your eating and drinking. But I found I could meet my Protein easily with fluids due to high Protein drinks and shakes and no limit on Fluid. But with food, a measly 3 oz of anything is just not that much protein. I end up supplementing it with protein drinks or powder. Food just doesn't have that much for the little amount we can eat and if you don't watch the amount the calories will be too high. Very tough balance. I think if you track your actual ounces and protein in your food, you might find it to be low instead of over.
  16. when asking for suggestions on protein drinks it would help to avoid redundancy if you would specify the ones you have already tried and don't like.

    Flying questions

Check the seating, depending on the aircraft, the back rows go from three to two seats. With your husband there would be no one next to you, plus a little more elbow room.

    No drain tube after VSG?

I didn't have a drain tube at all and I was in the hospital for 3 days.
  19. I wouldn't waste an IV on Tylenol. I had the good stuff (morphine) whether I needed it or not. Relaxed me and my pain was zero. They kept asking me to try Lortab, Tramadol, blah blah blah. I'd just keep telling 'em the other stuff doesn't work on me and the pain was a 6-8 and they'd kept giving me the morphine. Yay. Why be in any pain at all.

    Insurance approves!

My feelings exactly. You kinda mope along jumping thru all the hoops month after month, then.....the call and it starts fast tracking. Before you know it your headed into the hospital and your home in a flash. Like it didn't happen. So relax, your're gonna be logging lost pounds in a flash.
  21. Just goes to show you, everybody's got an opinion. So who's do you follow?. I'd just try and see what works for you. The body has a funny way of doing what it wants. You just have to find out what that is and beat it at it's own game.

    No Energy

    Bingo!
  23. I live alone as well. And it's just not that big a deal to bother going overboard prepping. I drove home from the Hospital and went to the store the same day to get in some walking. I really didn't find anything limiting after getting home. Going out gives me something to do. I just carry my Water bottle with me everywhere with Isopure Protein drink in it. And try to remember not to lift anything heavy for awhile. (month)
  24. Whatever the liquid plan, sounds like the basic idea is to avoid any actual food for about a month and then the soft stuff. My Doc said at a month the scar tissue should have the staples covered and I should be good to go for both foods and release to the GYM for weight related workouts. I'm anxiously waiting for both.
  25. clears for 2 days in Hospital, then full liquids for two weeks, puree for another two weeks.
