Tough love Mom. They don't call it tough love cause it's gonna be easy. But the alternative is worse. Be firm. Good luck.

Feeling Hungry? Is this it?
Recycled replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Real hunger pangs tend to be like...... if you don't get some food, you're going to pass out. My guess is you're experiencing the dreaded "head hunger". It can attack in many forms. I can still see a package of some delectable food and instantly recall and miss the taste. When the aroma of some cooking reaches my nostrils, I can identify the food and imagine enjoying it as well. But do I want or need to put some food in my belly right that minute cause I am so hungry...?? Typically no. I try to quickly get my mind off of it and do something else until I realize I wasn't actually hungry. I was just missing those familiar desires. Usually boredom will trigger those run-a-way thoughts and feelings. So get busy or drink some Water or get out and exercise to help train your mind away from the head hunger triggers. -
Surgeon has only done 26 sleeves
Recycled replied to ChristmasJanet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seeing as you asked.......Nope. -
There's no surgery that can make you eat only low calorie foods and in the correct amount. The only thing the sleeve is capable of doing is limiting the amount of food you can eat, to help you learn to be satisfied with less. So if it is your intention to rationalize a way to circumvent that limiting factor, then the sleeve won't work for you and you will fail. Trying to get others to enable you by agreeing with your rationalization is further proof you're headed down the wrong path. All I can say is you need to readjust your thinking and stick to the program as outlined by your weight loss team if you want to salvage any success from your surgery.

whats was your biggest challenge?
Recycled replied to girliegirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Prior to surgery, quite often I would be rushed doing things throughout the day and not stop to eat. It never posed a problem as I would usually stop in at some fast food joint late in the day all famished and go about ordering three times what anyoneI should be eating. Then I would spend most of the evening non stop eating till I was uncomfortably full and then hit the sack to deal with Gerd and reflux. The challenge now.......?? My new stomach holds about 2.5 to 3 ounces tops. Doesn't matter when I eat, that's all that's gonna fit. (no stretching allowed). And at 3 ounces a pop and all the 30 minutes before & after drinking thingy, I need all the meal opportunities I can get during the day to get enough nutrition to stay alive..........So if I miss any during the day, there is no making up for it later. My daily routine seems to be absorbed with thinking, planning, or whipping up something to eat. (and it's a learning curve cooking up 2 ounce portions) I even need to plan for it if I go somewhere. Takes a lot of getting used to. I know, I know.......small price to pay. I'm not complaining mind you......just saying it takes getting used to. Enjoy. Oh, I forgot.....I'm also faced with the challenge taking longer to eat 2 ounces than I did eating 10 pounds before. -

Nervous about Psych Evaluation
Recycled replied to MorganO87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My psych eval was a joke. Most of it amounted to a true false or multiple choice with some fill in questions. They typically ask the same type questions many different ways, to see if you are confused or unsure of your reasons. Common sense will guide you in what to say. They just want to be sure you are aware of what you're getting into and what to expect. As in not expecting a magic pill, and understand the risks. Also that you don't have unrealistic expectations. Good luck. -
No support from my family.....
Recycled replied to LindsayLouLou's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you're gonna use a score card to keep track of the pros and the cons in choosing, you're gonna drive yourself crazy. Try and look at it in another way. If they wheeled you into the ER after an auto accident an said we have to operate or your're gonna die.........You AND you family would be crossing your fingers and saying "sure, get to it". Of course you would be nervous and surely scared, but that would not be you main concern.....living would be. When you become morbidly obese, issues develop that will just as assuredly kill you. Even if your life is not in immediate jeopardy now, at some point it will be. The real irony is when accidents happen, we don't hesitate to take action, but when faced with choices when obese, we tend to ignore the dangers and hope the worst won't happen. Undoubtedly, the risks of staying obese are many many times higher than any potential risk from WLS. My guess is the above reason may not have even been one of your considerations for WLS. Yours might have been more like quality of life, self confidence, mobility, comfort, attractiveness, physical ease of doing things......etc. etc. All those things are things that affect YOUR life when obese. Decisions about things affecting your life are yours and yours alone. Most other's negative opinions are a reflection of their own insecurities and envy, not what is in your best interest. So, if you feel the desire for others to understand, then explain to them how you feel. But any decisions should be solely yours. Good luck, with whatever you decide. -
Band, Bypass or Sleeve in 2014: Which one?
Recycled replied to Dr-Patient's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Making comparisons on forums between procedures is for lack of a better word.."Silly". As stated by others, one can only offer valid representation of their own experience, which would only be one experience. And it is only from one online forum, which doesn't take into consideration the results from the multitudes of WLS patients not using any forums. Not exactly a true representation of the majority of patients getting any particular procedure. So while I do read forums, typically for any helpful information I might disseminate relating to my recovery and any particular issues I may be encountering........I did not actually consider any forums as my basis for choosing a particular procedure. That being said and since I have already had my weight loss surgery, I am compelled to live with my choice. Second guessing or mulling over pointless comparisons of other procedures is completely unproductive and moot. Barring rare special considerations, this is not an "I changed my mind", or "exchange it for a different procedure" choice. I intend to make the most of opting for a surgical procedure to help me in reaching my weight loss goals. So what is my point.......You shouldn't be using the unsubstantiated information you garner from forums as you basis or only source of information in making your choice of procedure and once you choose, your done. Make the best of what you have. Good luck everyone with your weight loss....... -
How much weight did you loose, before you could really notice a change in your apperance?
Recycled replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So let me get this straight.......first you were a 24 and went to a 20, but then gained 70 and lost 46 to a size 24 again, but you've been a size 24 the whole time except when you went down to a 20. And there is no difference between a 20 and 24..........wait, what was the question again....???? -
Yep. before surgery, my feet got so swollen, I was pretty much limited to just my flip flops. I'm happy to say all my shoes fit now and if and when I do reach my goal weight, I'll probably need to get smaller ones.
-
My only fear wasn't actually a fear as much as nervous anticipation. I wanted it done before some unknown issue popped up and prevented me from getting the surgery.

so embarrassing!
Recycled replied to justforme2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why take a chance. Keep some spare clothes in your car. -
We all had to get a bunch of tests done during the pre-op stage. Due to my surgery date delays, I ended up having to repeat some of the tests because they had to be done within a certain time before surgery. ( 2 weeks - blood test & chest X-ray) I would call back the Doc that wrote the order and clarify the timing on getting each specific test and how long the results are considered good for surgery and schedule them accordingly.

What he said.....

No, no, no, really..... it's muggy and sticky........It rains all the time. And those Hurricanes......just think about all those hurricanes. Besides, you would miss white Christmases and all those fashionable winter clothes. Forget about Florida......It's got too many mosquitoes anyway...........
-
By three months out you should of had a follow up blood test. If not.....get one. A blood panel will indicate where you stand with your levels and if anything needs adjustment.

Cheating the consultation scale...

Such irony........A weight loss forum discussing the preparations for losing weight by using methods to gain weight. What a world we live in.......... -
Cheating the consultation scale...
Recycled replied to msjoy83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My consult was just a casual meeting and conversation with the surgeon. His nurse had me step on a scale beforehand, asked me my height and that's it. Why don't you just call your surgeon's office and ask what the consult entails in detail. -

Day 10-why do I feel so hungry and lightheaded?
Recycled replied to jujube's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pre or post op. -
I wouldn't be in a big hurry to grab a bunch of Vitamins or supplements. Wait for the blood test results from you post-op follow up with your Doc. Then you can address any deficiencies if you have any. If you want to set your mind as ease, just grab any ole Multivitamin gummy.
