Quest bars are Poo Bombs
Recycled replied to 2Big2Skate's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Your post motivated me to seek out the Quest bars. After reading impressive nutrition values on the label, I gave them a try. As usual, the flavor descriptions on the label couldn't be farther from reality, but they still aren't bad tasting. The real benefit is the carbs for the gym and the fiber. You were dead on with the benefits there. I was able to cut back on my daily dose of Colace. Nuff said there. They work. A bit pricey, but good choice. Thanks. -
Funny how we just don't seem to be able to follow instructions. I know exactly what you mean. I would blend some stuff and when it left chunks in the blend, I would just say..."Oh well, that's close enough". Besides, chewing is sorta blending, right?! And how are we gonna know if we don't try. I mean, others didn't have to wait two weeks, so what can it hurt. Just a small taste. Hmmmm. no reaction. Good enough for me.......time to move on to next stage. Maybe not the best reasoning, but I'm sure alot of us do it anyway. Hopefully the docs have a fudge factor built in to their recommendations.

It would be nice if in the "Recent Topics" posts box, the category or room was listed along with the recent post. It might avoid alot of controversy when responding to posts and being unaware of the category. ie: powder room or guys room etc.

Easy or not, enjoy it while you can. Running used to really help me reach weight loss goals. But now I have had bi-lateral knee replacements (my obesity contributed to that too) and while they say you can run with the implants, I just don't want to add any undue additional wear which might cause them to need replacing again. But walking still fits the bill and I do alot of walking and treadmill. Swimming works great too.

I'm one of the lucky ones with cardiac issues. I don't feel trainers are knowledgeable enough about cardiac issues and will either be too cautious or unaware of the limits. So I basically just try to follow the limits set by my Cardiologists. Having to modivate myself with the stress of possibly keeling over and having to take heart rate limiting meds, (beta blockers) makes exercise sessions at the gym extra difficult. I envy those with trainers.

Thanks for the info. I have been searching for various snack ideas. This is a good one. I found one on Targets sight while browsing.

1st Consult with Surgeon -- This Week
Recycled replied to ges12877's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You headed in the right direction already. I would just try to absorb as much information as you can about the surgery and more importantly, the diet and lifestyle change that you will need to follow to be successful both in the short and long term. The Surgeon will fill in specifics for your particular surgery and you can research alot right here on BP. Use the search and read, read, read. Good luck with journey. -
I believe the increased risk of kidney stones from bariatric surgery is in reference to gastric bypass. However obesity by itself is a cause for increased risk of the stones. Not drinking enough Water is considered one of the main causes. If you are diagnosed with a stone, it is advisable to be checked out by a Urologist as the size of the stone is extremely important as to the treatment required. You don't want to put your kidney in jeopardy.

Forget the block button. I certainly won't waste any more of my time offering any more "advice" (not advise) to you. I re-read that response to your first post and all I can say is you have an unusual way in interpreting plain English. BTW, it's him, not her. And you can go to - "manage ignore prefs" - and block me easily. Good luck with your surgery.

Oh come on......a little humor takes the edge off. Everything doesn't have to be so dry and serious. Nobody's being malicious. OK, you want the serious version. Here goes. How about he word "stalled"'. Who uses that word. Weight loss surgery patients, that's who. So my guess is if your using the word stalled, you've already read about stalls and are aware they are typical to WLS. If you want more details, then reading more would certainly be an option. Hence the "Search" suggestion. Chill out. Losing lots of weight on this journey should be and enjoyable ride.

Low BMI with no comorbidities, what do I do?
Recycled replied to Anewlife2live's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strap on a scuba divers weight belt under your clothes, with the added weight needed to reach 40 BMI. Also tell them your are an inch or two shorter than you are. If they measure...... slouch ! It's up to you, but I'm not kidding. To have generic requirements for everyone that don't take individual needs into consideration is stupid to begin with. -
The coordinator at your Surgeon's office would be a good start. If you haven't picked a Surgeon yet, check to see if any bariatric surgeons in your area have information seminars. Those are always helpful in getting all the basic information you will need.

Worried sleeve will not work as well as band
Recycled replied to PeachyDexter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Explain to me the "work" part you refer to??? Both surgeries are only designed to do one thing. Limit you intake at a single meal. Basically to keep you from endlessly stuffing yourself with too much food. The "work" part is all yours. You must choose what type of foods to eat and stick to a low calorie diet and exercise. Not try to circumvent the benefits of the meal restrictions, or sit around eating only junk food. The two surgeries just go about accomplishing those meal limits in different ways. So both surgeries will work for what they are designed to do, but having success with either one will depend on you. -
My biggest (and only) disappointment with WLS
Recycled replied to Sassy Pants1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto with the stall frustration. If I'm ever stranded on a remote island somewhere, I figure all I gotta do is NOT eat and I'll survive for months seeing as I won't lose any weight. -
Am totally frustrated with the scale and stalls, so putting it away and only weighing once a week.

Crunches will certainly strengthen your abdominal muscles, but you cannot target an area to lose fat. The fat will come off everywhere. We typically have more in the middle, so the middle is usually the last to show a significant loss. Do a variety of exercises and shoot for the end result down the road.

Fear of food... Moving away from purees
Recycled replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weigh your food. Start with about 2 ounces. Chew it up good. You'll be fine. Don't drink for 30 minutes. You'll like being able to get in Protein without necessarily having to do shakes and stuff. My favorite is a Chicken/mushroom stir fry. Very high in protein. Enjoy. -
You can now proceed to jump up and down around the room..... Congrats

Why dies my regular dr have a oroblem with protein?
Recycled replied to kj44's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Beats me as to why all the concern, but as far as the Insure deal.....that's and easy one.....get a different PCP to sign off. -
I'm waiting on the "Cherry 2000". LOL, sorry, it's a guy thing.

My 21 yr old is considering sleeve
Recycled replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First off at 21, he's not your 21 year old anymore. As in any surgery, there are risks. And as an adult, this type of elective decision should be solely his. If I were you I would play it down. Use a little reverse psychology. Rag on him alittle. Things like...."yeah sweetie, it's working for me but you're lazy and without determination and focus you'll blow it." Make it something he wants to prove to himself and everyone, he can do. And don't sugar coat the risks. Make sure he researches the procedure in detail so he is very aware of the life-long choice he's making. It's not a race. He needs to come to the decision on his own, in his own time. You need to distance yourself from this one mom. If it were me at 21 again, I would find a way to lose it on my own. I agree with you on the I'm old..... and if it goes south......well you know what I mean. Good luck. -
Hog-tight, Horse-high, & Peanut M & M's
Recycled replied to Colleen Cook's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
For that M&Ms trick to work for me, they need to stay on the shelf at the grocery store. -
211 Today! UGH Help me Stop.
Recycled replied to Christian Zaccone's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
211 pounds at 5'11" is not a weight to panic about. You've still got over 20 pounds of wiggle room.
