Starting slow is not much of a choice. Your gonna be weak as hell from probably never working out. I remembered the days of my youth when I was really small and worked out with extremely heavy weights. Boy was I in for a shock. I figured that by carrying around all the extra weight for years, I must have decent strength. The weights I could handle now were embarrassing. The fact is, your waking up muscles that have be virtually unused for who knows how long. The movement alone with start to generate muscle development and increased calorie burn. No matter how insignificant is seems.....DO IT. You will feel and see the benefits in a very short time.

Anyone ever have second thoughts?
Recycled replied to cutiepieinchi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I probably ate more in frustration.....which assured me I would never stop it on my own. Go ahead and do the testing and appointments. You'll get to visualize you state of health and hear what the Docs have to say and read and learn more about the process. What can it hurt. You can make your decision anytime. -

How do you measure your food?
Recycled replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I pretty much use one of two things. For Soups, chili, puddings and and soft or mushy stuff, I use a 1/2 cup measuring scoop. For regular food I weigh out 3 ounces on the scale. And for liquids, I just drink all day long as much as I can stand. Oh, I forgot the important part. I keep track of everything on MFP. (It adds up quick) -

I did a sort of motivational stripping of the closet. If it was big stuff, I got rid of it right away. I had plenty of smaller sized clothes, so I dug them out of storage and filled the closet. So now I gotta lose to fit into anything and there is nothing left for for any weight regain possibility. Added note: I'm sure to look ridiculous because when you've kept clothes around for over twenty years, alot has gone out of style.

Pretty much everybody. Telling someone to relax is easy, while trying to is near impossible. Just try to think of it as a nap. Before the surgery, every time they came in to take blood pressure readings, I would close my eyes and imagine the most relaxing place I could think of.....and see how low I could get my BP. It would freak out the tech and they would comment how I seemed so relaxed. Just smile and think fun thoughts. You do great.

More Questions running around in my head....
Recycled replied to Bellasarrah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Bela Lets address them one by one. 1. Yes, it should be. No lifting and if you sit alot....get up and walk often to keep up circulation and prevent DVTs. 2. Probably. No way to know your threshold till you wake up. You will get meds to easily manage pain. And you will also be given pain meds for when you go home. Word of advice: if you have pain at home - use the meds, you gain nothing trying to be tough and not use them. 3. Not only will you survive. You'll lose a considerable amount of weight. Drink alot of Protein drinks to expedite healing and avoid muscle loss. 4. The staples inside are Titanium and stay with you forever. You may or may not have staples on the stomach incisions. It you do they will be removed at about 10 days. 5. You'll know when you wake up and see. Or you could just ask the Surgeon before surgery. No one else can answer this. 6. You were a stomach sleeper. You'll sleep in other positions for awhile. It'll be much easier to be a stomach sleeper later on when your stomach shrinks. -
Celebrating Medical Victories! Anyone? Anyone?
Recycled replied to ziggypbang's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Save your money and the effort. Once it's bone on bone, you're screwed. I had both knees replaced before my Sleeve and the replacements were my motivation to get WLS. TKR's are quite an ordeal and I wanted to preserve my replacements the best I could, hence losing as much weight as I could. You might want to check out another forum call Bonesmart.org. I also posted there under Recycled. Good luck. -

A competent Surgeon will tell you that they always check for any hernias and repair them as needed during the surgery. But I do agree with reinforcing their routine procedure with the reminder you want them to check and repair any found. (kinda covers that legal side of the instructions) I knew pre-op about my hiatal hernia and ended up getting an umbilical hernia repaired also, that I had no idea about. So, I'm sure the surgeon's are typically on their game. Added note: It's great that you presently have no gerd or acid reflux, however even with hiatal repairs, acid reflux or heartburn can be a side effect of sleeve surgerys.

Check out the Band to Gastric Bypass and the Band to Sleeve revision sections. I have also heard of some getting Sleeve to bypass and various forms of the DuoSwitch/ sleeve/ bypass. So to answer your question. Yes many do get revisions. And not just for weight regain. There are many issues that may constitute a revision.

I didn't even bother with Vitamins until my follow-up blood test, and even then all the levels were fine, so I just take them for any added benefits.

Strength Training OK at 3.5 months out?
Recycled replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started full workouts at the gym at 1 month. To be sure though, consult your Doc. -
Alcohol post op - is it allowed?
Recycled replied to Rooben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you don't drink any for 3 months.......then it's true. It appears everything just sorta depends on your tolerance for it. Some can, some can't. Some docs allow it, some don't. With alcohol, I believe there is typically more concern about sliding into an alcohol addiction, as a substitute for food addictions. -

Funny how those ailments and pain dominated our lives and now they just silently slip away. Feels great, doesn't it. -
Seeing the surgeon on tuesday
Recycled replied to Lisa00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You ask her the questions? I'm sure she might recommend what she thinks is best for you or may just outline the differences and the expectations from each. But, ultimately, it's your body and your life, so you need to be sure which one you want to get. Don't be intimidated by the Doc. Get all your concerns out there and answered to your satisfaction. -
Moving across country just after sleeve
Recycled replied to beeteroo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Relax. It shouldn't be a big deal. Just watch the lifting during the move. (as in NONE). Find a new PCP and do the follow-ups there. Good luck. -
Keep your picky little paws off them. If they itch, use some Benadryl cream around the sites. (I rubbed it all over my stomach). The steri-strips will come off on their own in their own time. Don't wash the sites or get them wet either until the incisions are completely closed.

Did you schedule your tests or your Surgeon? Different tests have different time frames for which they remain valid prior to surgery. Check with your Surgeon & the Hospital to make sure yours will be within those time frames so you won't have to repeat them before surgery.

Even with all the crap modern medicine has to throw at it, the common cold will still usually run it's usual course. If it doesn't ease up in a couple of days, I would advise your Surgeon. You might want to consider postponement. You don't want any lingering trace of a cold and cough come post-op. Plus, the longer you wait will probably result in a further postponement date.

Dull to moderate pain under right breast when taking deep breathes after surgey
Recycled replied to hope2be's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had pretty much the exact symptoms you described. With the added concern from already having undergone a heart attack some years before, I was concerned and considering the ER as well. After some quick research and evaluating the specific location (not symptom of heart issue) and the coincidence of my recent surgery, I did in fact conclude it was most likely isolated gas from the surgery. it did disappear by the next day and I have had no further issues. If yours doesn't, a visit to the ER might be advisable. -
Your post recites many of the feeling we all have. It emphasizes obesity's dangers, lost hope and the wishes for simple, basic desires. So you want to know if the sleeve is the answer? You already know the answer. Losing the weight and getting healthy is the answer. The sleeve is merely a tool to get you there. It will assist you where you have failed in the past. I needed something that would help me with the first step and continue to do so longterm.........Something to.keep me from endlessly stuffing food in my big mouth. That being accomplished, it allowed me to get on board and start doing the rest. Choosing healthy, moving......., exercise, changing bad habits and enjoying the results. You know what you want. The decision is up to you.
