Cautious rather than excited - insurance approval
Recycled replied to SusinMichigan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You want excitement....forget about the approval. It's just the process to a solution. Concentrate on the result. You are on the road to defeating obesity and enjoying many more things again. Envision yourself at your weight loss goal. Now that is excitement. -
My 4 months with pics
Recycled replied to terri82much's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The weight loss is very evident and dramatic in the two pics (congrats).........but what stymies me is......what are you dressed up as??? -
We see it, we read about it and we live it. The obesity plague is rampant. We have all gone thru the feelings of hopelessness and despair about ever being normal again. Now, I feel like I am one of a select few that has found a new path back to a normal life and I am not satisfied with that. I look around and notice every obese person and imagine myself helping them onto that same path. It is overwhelming at times. So many......I have to do something. But as you and so many others have stated, it would be inappropriate. I know that..... but I can't just leave it there. Besides, I have led a life of doing inappropriate things. So why would this stop me. I've got to find a way to offer whatever insight I can about this to others. Funny thing is.....while one type of condition or handicap may be viewed as inappropriate, another is not. I came across a very obese man in the gym the other day struggling with a knee brace and bandages. After looking around the gym he sat down and almost without hesitation, I saw my opportunity. I approached him an introduced myself. I I asked him about his knee and he said he just had a knee replacement. Having both my knees replaced a little while back, I offered some tips on his recovery. Then in a less than subtle segway, I referenced how I was worried my weight would damage my new knees...so I sought a solution. Telling him I am three months out and 55 pounds down and feel great, really amazed him. The rest is history. After about 30 minutes of his asking a slew of questions about WLS, I left him with the information to a local seminar and went on my way. Ok, one person may not make a big impact, but it was satisfying for me. Now, I'm working on ways to reach the rest.

What's better? Unjury or Isopure Unflavored Protein Powder?
Recycled replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm giving up on the unflavored Isopure whey. I've tried adding it many times to foods and drinks and it just changes things too much. In hot stuff it clumps and changes the taste and texture considerably. Maybe for Athletes that can eat or drink 12 or more ounces at a time it would work. But trying to add it to a measly 3 ounces is just not worth the effort. Then again, maybe I'm doing it wrong, so I'm all ears for any advice. -
where are the male sleever stories ?
Recycled replied to bigjoe59's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Your workout partner is gonna be that skinny guy inside you working to beat the fat guy your leaving behind. Every time the fat guy starts to edge you out.......work harder. As far as what to expect. The first couple of weeks will be liquids. Try to drink ALL the time. You can't drink too much and need at least 8 glasses a day. Don't worry about Protein too much, but if you can throw in a Protein shake or Isopure type Protein Drink here and there along with the Water. If they give you any pain meds to take home........take them. Why be in any pain at all. I wasn't. The trapped gas from the surgery might cause some discomfort, but it will pass, sometimes a little faster with the effort of just walking. So walk as much as is feasible. While these are basic preliminaries to expect, they will all be gone over with you many times by the hospital staff and your Surgeon. So Relax......you'll do fine. -
Having second thoughts...
Recycled replied to msnyman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hmmmm........have you cake and eat it too....and total guarantees. Wouldn't that be nice. You got obese cause you ate too much and didn't do enough exercise (if any) to keep your weigh in check. As far as life after the sleeve not being too different........you're gonna have to follow a strict limiting diet, do lots and lots of exercise and make these changes for life. Plus there are no guarantees or do overs in life as far as regrets go. Now for the good. Yes, you will be more healthy, not to mention warding off future health problems from obesity. Certainly live longer. Do more physically. Have more self confidence. Be happier. Enjoy doing many more things with your kids. Have more opportunities and on and on............ But it still is a decision and along with your having second thoughts, you'll probably have thirds and forth's and fifth's etc. And as decisions go, this one is a personal one of yours.....not your family's. Wishing you the best with your surgery and path to a healthy life, with no regrets. -
How long after surgery were you able to workout?
Recycled replied to desig1814's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say 'Beastmode' needs to wait about 30 days or so and then approach it in "babybeast' mode. -
Really, just whom do you think you're sneaking them past??!! At this point, no one on here can help you but YOU. You're no beginner. You know your limits. Are you really gonna let 80 pounds lost and all that effort just slide away because you think you want Oreos. Have one and move on. (Buy a package of two, not 30) And you know your calorie limits too. Get back to closely tracking your intake including the Oreo and drink more fluids to fill you. If you don't feel like drinking more.......then get your butt to the gym and sweat. That will make you thirsty and keep you busy and keep your calories in check as well. If you want the occasional sweet or junk food.....limit the amount and then only when make yourself go immediately to the gym and work it off. You don't have to deprive yourself, just stay disciplined. Your kind of success is what motivates the rest of us to our goals. You don't need ideas......you're just getting bored and lazy and trying to fill it in with bad choices and habits. You can do this, so no more sliding and get back on track.

Try whatever works. I usually have to dilute any type Protein drink. Extra liquid is always good
-
I use premier Protein bars, Isopure Zero carb drinks and Quest bars. All are quick protein boosters when food is not enough. The Quest bars add in much needed Fiber as well.

I probably read more topics about stalls than any other subject on here. I've even started a thread or two on stalls. Now, the farther out I get and the more tracking of my weight loss, it seems a different pattern is starting to formulate. We have the surgery and are anxious to see some results. Then we lose all that post-op liquid and we're dancing around the bathroom from the falling numbers on the scale. This is gonna be so easy....right? All freshly motivated, we concentrate on getting in some exercise in to boost the process. If such a minimum amount of exercise works then more should work better. Now thing start to change. That cheap piece of junk scale must be broken. Ok, calm down, it's not the scale. It's that "stall" thing. OK, I'm a little discouraged but this was expected (see, I read up pre-op). I stick to my regimen and e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y the weight starts coming off again. OK, now I'm past that challenge........ things will be steady from here on. Right? Please be right. Not so lucky. It seems I lose a few lbs and then no matter what I do.....nothing for days. And this happens over and over and over again. I'm so aggravated by these repeated stalls......I fail to notice a few things. First, I stumble on a graph of my loss history that I have been tracking on My Fitness Pal, and I notice that it is following a kind of "zig-zag" stepping pattern of lose a couple pounds and then several days of no losses. And looking at the graph, it looks like a fairly steady pattern. Kinda like.....lose - recover- lose-recover. Not really stalls at all. Then I notice the second part. When I add up the weight lost, it is rather dramatic. At this rate I will lose more than I could have imagined by six months and likely be at goal in under a year. Wow. Guess I just had to step back and look at the big picture and not the day to day. OK, OK.......y'all caught on to where I was going with this......but it's still true. I know It's extremely hard to keep the daily emotions and expectations in perspective. So when you get down or discouraged. Take a step back. Stick to the program and you'll get to your goal soon enough.

Reliable set of Scales recommendations?
Recycled replied to SlowlybutSurely's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would have gladly recommended mine, but today I got pissed at it and smashed it to smithereens. Third one this month................. -
Karen44 said: How do I rationalize having a partial gastrectomy in order to restrict food when there are people starving all over the world? Well......being concerned about it now is kinda like closing the gate after the horse got out. As it stands now.........you ain't gonna be eating enough to give it any concern, so do yourself a favor and let it go.

Newbie needs advice!?!?!?
Recycled replied to kimpatcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Relax, every time they hung up one of those bags that was a few pounds. And it ain't likely much was exiting during that period. But it will now......very quick. The body is going to take awhile to adjust to all the trauma and get used to the new regimen your introducing now. It's just the body doing it's thing. -
Surgery Tomorrow... eeek!
Recycled replied to Telisa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, surgery tomorrow and nerves kicking in.........Forget about all your concerns......the surgery is gonna be over before you even have a chance to give any of them a second thought. You might try reading some of the previous threads and posts on here about some of the immediate post-op tips. The more you read the more relaxed you'll be cause your prepared. And even if your not, no worries cause the hospital staff will be on top of it. Don't worry about not being able to sleep much tonight, they'll take care of that tomorrow too. Enjoy the nap and you'll be back in a couple of days where you can ask away on your adventure to a new you -
Got my first unexpected, "but why don't you just diet?" lecture today
Recycled replied to roundisashape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just tell them..... "why bother dieting, I'm taking the easy way out"...............Like it would make any difference to explain it to them anyway. And do you care anyway. -
30 days does seem to be the consensus most reported on here from their Docs.

Awesome not to stuff self with food.
Recycled replied to LindafromFlorida's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Makes you kinda think the creator made a mistake when it left it up to humans to learn everything on their own. Probably would have been a good idea to throw in a few basic instincts in the mix.......take away some of our really dumb choices. -
Why wonder ? Call your Doc and ask.

I hear ya Bob. I have been eating pretty good but some would probably call it boring. I found trying to cook some little 2.5 ounce piece of fish or meat resulted in inedible waste. So I cook up a large piece or pieces and then cut it into smaller portions and vacuum seal and put it in the fridge or freeze it. Then I nuke it for the next 5 or six meals. So what if I eat it for several days. I'm just not that big on complicated recipes and the like when it's a measly 3 ounces total. Doesn't bother me as I'm just about getting in enough Protein and basics anyway. Sure variety is good, but it's a nuisance when your not a gourmet cook. Even shopping for groceries is a pain. Takes me three times as long cause I end up reading every single label and putting most of the stuff back. Amazes me too how the food that has everything removed or is healthy, costs' twice as much. I just try to keep it quick and simple. So I stick with the tried and true.

My guess is you should try a Bariatric or Gastric Sleeve weight loss forum..................... Probably avoid smart alecs like me............ No, really fire away.......with all those on here, you're sure to get all the support you could want right here.........
