You don't have to drink your protein. You can eat it too. But if you don't get in enough it can slow your healing and cause you to lose muscle along with the fat. This will most assuredly make you tired and weak. Drink it, eat it, however you get it in.....just do it. You need it and you'll get used to it. I didn't like the shakes at first and now I look forward to them. Isopure also makes a zero carb drink that is sorta like Kool-aid. I just cut it half with cold water. 40 grams of protein in 20 ounces of drink.

I took and ever so tiny nibble of the biscuits (so delicious and irresistible , I swear they put drugs in them) and then wrapped them up to take home to my Parrots.

At three weeks you could probably flap your arms to fly there. You'll be fine, go ahead and fly the friendly skies.

What Do You All Mean When You Say You Can't......
Recycled replied to Denise73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All the worry is usually early on when things aren't quite going like you expected. The thing is, early on is not all that important on hitting all the goals. If you can't get in enough Protein.....no big deal. You will later when things are better healed and settle down. If you can't make 64 ounces of fluids......no big deal.....just get enough so you don't get dehydrated. (ya don't want dark pee) As time goes on, you'll figure out how to do things that work for you. Just set some daily goals and shoot for them. But don't get discouraged or upset if you don't reach them at first. It's a process that takes time to get adjusted to. Good luck. -

Five months and at goal. Absolutely fantastic job. The forum members will certainly benefit from your mantra. Remember this moment for strength during your future maintenance years. No going back. Congrats again. -
Ack! Anesthesia was denied post-op, now what?
Recycled replied to MelBooks's topic in Insurance & Financing
Calm down. Sounds like a mistake. Call them and speak to someone in authority. It that doesn't work inquire about appealing the denial. Keep pushing until someone listens and or approves it. I wouldn't pay anything. They all approved it before, so I would keep rubbing their noses it that approval until they succumb. -
There is a pill that is just for this situation and will prevent you from eating under these exact circumstances..........!!! Nooo.......of course there isn't......but I guess that is what you wanted to hear. What is it exactly you want anyone else to do??? You've already been at this awhile. You know what the routine is. You even state that you are not hungry and you are aware the cheating is going to cause you to fail. And yet you do it anyway. So my guess is if you don't wise up and change your attitude, you will most certainly fail. There is nothing anyone else can do about it. It's all on you. Either get with the program and do what you know you have to do, or you will have gone thru all this for nothing and will become one of the statistics that it didn't work for. Sorry if this is not what you expected to hear. But sugar coating it won't change the outcome. - Good Luck.

One month to go and FREAKED OUT!
Recycled replied to -_Gretchen_-'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Probably a higher chance of dying doing about everything you normally do in a routine day......Including slipping in the shower. Or what about the biggie.......dying from obesity. -
One month to go and FREAKED OUT!
Recycled replied to -_Gretchen_-'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Freaked Out??? Cmon, you've got to get things into perspective. I could jump outa planes, plummeting towards the ground at couple of hundred miles an hour skydiving, or go scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef with 20 foot Great White sharks, or climb the sheer cliffs of Mount Everest, at 35,000 feet with no oxygen.........Or any of a dozen other terrifying ordeals. Would I be Freaking Out??? Nah. So just punching a few holes in the ole belly and stitching up the stomach, is a walk in the park. Now, you want freaking out. What would freak me out, is the thought of a Watermelon growing in my belly and then forcing it out thru a straw with no pain meds. Now that would surely FREAK me out. Relax, you women got this. Added note: Ok, ok, a couple of those other things would probably freak me out........ -
Fish Oil, Vit E for dry skin and hair? Is it helpful?
Recycled replied to CrazyJaney's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Wow, you women notice every little detail. I could wake up with three hairs left on my head and I would have never noticed it was thinning. And fingernails.......who notices fingernails. There is more change watching grass grow. Things may change or occur as a result of our VSG, but when asking if any particular Vitamin or product makes a difference after VSG......there is just no way to know. Some will lose hair. Some won't. Some will be tired. Others won't You could take the pills and still lose hair. Or not. There is no way to know if it was the pills, or lotion, or if you results would have been the same regardless of taking anything. If you have nothing to compare your individual situation with, then there is no basis to suggest any pills or products made a difference. So, you can take 'em if you want. I guess there is no harm in believing it makes a difference. -

I Am So Angry When People Think Surgery Is The Easy Option!
Recycled replied to Tartan-Tiger's topic in Rants & Raves
Ya know, most of those commenting that it's the Easy way out, are in fact obese and are just annoyed that you are losing weight and they cannot. And by making such a rude statement, they opened the door for a much deserved reply....... such as..... "It is easy.....I'm sure it would even work for you" -
The kicker is how things have changed since VSG. I actually drove for over 3 hours down to Key West, FL..... to get a piece of Key Lime pie at a place I saw on a TV show. While the ride was great..... the pie did not live up to my expectations. Wasn't all that satisfying as I remembered. Am I disappointed? Not really. I'm in it for the whole enchilada. I'll just have to savor the recollections of my old food favorites.

Let's try an experiment.......How many people like Escargot?? Hmmmmmm, different stokes for different folks.

You're the only one that knows if you should feel guilty. If you're barely out of surgery and making poor choices or reverting to old habits, well then....... However, if you've been at this awhile and are closing in on your goal, or cruising along in maintenance......Well then.....I would surely expect you have grown accustomed to new eating habits and choices and know how to recognize any undesirable old habits creeping back in. That being said.......a little taste of the "forbidden" once in a while, if kept under control......well.....that's for you to decide.

I Am So Angry When People Think Surgery Is The Easy Option!
Recycled replied to Tartan-Tiger's topic in Rants & Raves
For me it was the ONLY way out. I did it because I knew it was the only way I had any chance of losing the weight before obesity killed me. Besides, why would I want a more difficult method anyway. Yeah, of course there are other ways to lose weight. And short of taking a scalpel and slicing off all the excess weight......they are all more difficult. So in the scope of all those other ways.....it is sorta easier. So what. I could care less. And more importantly.....I care even less about what other people think. -
Best way to loose faster?
Recycled replied to Diana2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After all that reading, did ya find anyone that was losing way too fast and decided to slow it down. Cause they would be the only ones that could tell you how to lose faster. Far as I know everyone is losing just as fast as it will come off for them based on what they are doing. But if you really need some tips on losing faster, only one I know is don't eat anything. -

Nope. If you find one that works every time......be sure to clue me in. I have to spend twice as long motivating myself to go to the Gym as I spend at the gym. It's a chore every time. It seems my subconscious mind is constantly trying to distract me to some other meaningless task just to avoid going. However, (and I'm not making this up) once I get there and get several minutes into a workout........I get charged up to do more than the last time. And when I leave......it feels so so fulfilling. Of course that fulfillment does nothing to get me outa the house any quicker the next time. It's always gonna be a battle. Most times the gym wins, but occasionally procrastanation gets one in. But the visits add up and so do the results. Just keep at it. One added tip: I never had any luck with doing exercises at home. To easy to put it off, telling yourself you can do it anytime cause it's at home. Just too many distraction opportunities.

Sure. Comes with the territory. I just take either pepcid AC or if I want instant relief, some Tums. I figure the Tums gives me plenty of Calcium anyway. Added note: whenever I lost a lot of weight in the past, the heartburn always went away.

Have you been to the Doc for a post op follow up? How were your levels then? It wouldn't hurt to drop in on your PCP and get another blood test to see if your levels are up to par. How's the weight loss coming? How are you feeling?

distinguishing between head hunger/real hunger?
Recycled replied to kdosreis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What difference does it make. Treat it all as head hunger and ignore it or do something to distract you from the idea of food. And as far as feeling full.......measure you meals and eat enough to meet your caloric intake, protein and nutrients.....and that's it. Your past was not a good judge of fullness so don't bother trying to establish one this early on. You need to concentrate on learning new eating habits, so forget all the old ones. Measure. measure. measure. And fight all the urges. You're getting enough in, so you don't need to respond to any urges, no matter what they are. Drink more fluids if you need something. Good luck.
