Drinking during meals
Recycled replied to KrissySMD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That Doc needs to go back to science class and study harder during the part about solids, liquids and gases........ . -
The only thing I can think of that could in any way be associated with the sleeve having any effect on sex drive, would be energy level. The whole surgery, low calorie and exercise combination can have a real impact on energy levels. Could be he's just tired or weak. Other than that, you might be barking up the wrong tree. It might be something more deep seated, related to your relationship that no one on here would realistically be able to offer any insight. Good luck.

Here's what's going to happen as time goes by........Those stalls that are so frustrating in the beginning.......they just tend to blend into daily life. Not such a big deal anymore. You will find that as you get used to your daily intake, they become more routine and less of an event. So do the weight losses. I pay very little attention to the scale and pretty much expect that my weight loss will occur in it's own time regardless of what I do. I no longer fret over "stalls". I eat about 700 to 1200 calories each day and concentrate on the Protein. I have noticed that even when I'm not losing lbs, I am losing inches. (stuff fits better). It's become slow and steady.....but it still keeps coming off. At 800 cal. ......it pretty much has to. I will eventually get to my goal, as will you.

Absolutely fantastic job. You look great. So glad you posted your update. Those updates and success stories are what keeps the rest of us motivated as we trudge along. I had bilateral knee replacements prior to my Sleeve and I made all kinds of effort to acheive a super fast recovery....only to learn, you just can't rush the process. It taught me to be patient and accept however long it takes (which was closer to a year for my knees). Now my knees are great and now I am better prepared for the long haul in my weight loss efforts. Slow and steady........will get you there. Not that your loss was very slow.......I mean 200 lbs in 12 months. Wow. Gotta say it again......you look great.

What's the sleeve got to do with a hangover. Ya drink too much and ya get a hangover......... Take a couple of aspirin and go easy on the booze. For future reference.....my trick was to take about 3 aspirin -before- drinking and it would help prevent any hangover later.

I think temptation issue is one of the biggest NSV's. It's the one we worry about the most before surgery and with all diets or WL events of in the past. To be able to change our eating habits and not be tempted by food laying all about, is a tremendous victory. It's the assurance that our lives have finally changed and food will not rule us anymore. Congratulations.

When can I start working out after pos sleeve
Recycled replied to Tubby1234's topic in Fitness & Exercise
It's a funny thing about the gym and thoughts of rigorous exercise and weight lifting routines. With the surgery done, you tend to think the quicker you get to the gym and start pumping Iron, you can lose weight faster and gain lots of muscle. I know that was my thoughts. My Doc said 6 weeks for the gym and weights. So at 6 weeks on the dot, I joined a gym and started all kinds of weight lifting and cardio workouts. The thing is......it didn't really speed up the losses or the muscle gain. I didn't notice any additional weight losses during or following my gym sessions. And the sessions are tedious and boring and hard to stay modivated about always going. And the real kicker is, I usually see the biggest losses just doing routine outdoor activities, like mowing the lawn or washing the car or going fishing. Whenever I did something outside that resulted in a little sweat, I saw immediate results. I still go to the gym mind you. And as I lose the weight, I can really notice my cardio and weight routines increasing dramatically. But the weight is gonna take time to get off and while the gym helps, I found it did not provide the biggest benefit. Just slowly get back into the usual indoor or outdoor physical routines and working up a sweat. It's all exercise and doing something productive or enjoyable, while burning the calories just doesn't seem so much like exercise. I rarely even notice I am exerting such energy when doing routine activities and then I'm quite surprised later by the scale. -
Well, what a shame. If she would have stuck around I could have referred her to the "Life's Manual" by: T. H. Doesnotexist. It's a complete guide to everything in life.....step by step, for everybody, in all situations....from birth to death. Takes out all the mistakes and guesswork. Plus......I still have some prime swamp land on the market......any takers...????

Premier Protein Shakes-only 1/3 protein absorbed?

Funny thing about research.......Most data will support the conclusions sought by the persons, labs or organizations doing the research. I actually found reports that indicated 95% of all medications, including Vitamins are grossly inaccurate in stating the contents of their meds. So, that would pretty much throw most comparison shopping out the window. I use a dart board. I put up a list and throw a dart...... whatever the dart is closest to.......I use that... -

Drink to prevent dehydration
Recycled replied to motocrash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For long rides, go with the camelbak. Straws draw in air with every sip. Camelbaks do not. The whole gulping thing will subside with time. You may not fit as much at one chug as before, but liquids pass thru pretty fast so you can take chugs often and stay hydrated. I do however, take an insulated Water bottle EVERYWHERE with me. -
Boosting immunity pre-op
Recycled replied to SwanRose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just keep it simple. Eat Protein. -
I can see where carbs may factor in when you're already at maintenance and can have more calories and variety in a daily plan. But I've still got a ways to go to reach my goal, so I concentrate specifically on getting in my daily Protein first while still staying under my calorie limits. Doing this just leaves no room for anything else........I'll re-adjust to the whole balanced meals thingy when I reach goal.

I know you are anxious to get started with a gym regimen but......the gym is not the only resource. Walking, riding a bike, or any other low impact exercise that will get you moving will suffice in the interim of waiting for the gym workouts. I go to the gym on a regular basis and I still use the treadmill the most. (And I just walk as I have knee replacements and when I jog, they make a lot of noise). There is no need to go all out to get some useful exercise. Don't rush the gym......give your internals plenty of time to heal. You don't want to cause any injuries that will slow your recovery.

You're a couple of weeks ahead of me and I'm closing in on your numbers too. It's amazing how much visual change there is with the weight loss. You look great and I bet you feel great too. Keep up the great progress.

I'm sure the Doc is gonna want to check you out anyway and with a BMI of 55 you probably will have a few co-morbities. Kinda goes with the territory.

I hated running and never ran when I was overweight. Lately after dumping close to 80 lbs, I decided to try running again on the treadmill at the gym. Within a couple of minutes.......(pause of antisipation)....I stopped and went back to walking. Turns out, I still hate running. But your story is great......keep up the great progress........and the running.

42 grams of protein in 3.8 oz
Recycled replied to MFoster9812's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While it's obvious you want to get you money's worth with Protein drinks, I don't really get the whole mini "shots" idea. I drink both premier Protein shakes and Isopure Zero carb drinks every day. I even cut the Isopure in half with Water for taste. Even drinking both of those, I still find it difficult to get in enough liquids each day.(8-10 cups) Drinking a little 3 or 4 ounce shot would not help me in this regard. I have become accustomed to the shakes and cutting the Isopure drinks makes them tolerable as well. I can see where someone might feel it's easier to down a mini bottle of protein vs: drinking 11 - 20 ounces. Maybe you make up the fluids with just plain water the rest of the day. For me, the water just gets to a point I can't stand just randomly drinking it all day. I even take advantage of my gym visits to bring as much Protein Drink as I can handle, cause the gym workout makes me thirsty. To each their own with the Protein Drinks. I just try to get in the most liquids right along with the protein. -
With meal limits of about 3 ounces, all eating seems like Snacks. Meals during the day, seem tedious and take an inordinate amount of time to prepare. They are kind of a nuisance, but make adapting to such a small meal less difficult. However, my evening and late night TV watching still encourages old habits of springing up during commercials for a snack. I try to save enough calories during the day so I can accommodate the snacking urges with some high Protein, easy to eat snacks. Turkey Jerky is one of those snack. Measure out an ounce (DON't eat from the bag) and nibble away. Takes awhile to eat and chew and adds about 15g of protein. Another is almonds. Or string cheese. Whatever it is, never eat from the bag or package. You won't be able to control the portion. Measure or count a serving and put it in a small dish and put the bag BACK. You'll find other snacks as you progress. I just try to make everything I eat a kind of "protein first" type of thing. Enjoy.

It might just be a matter of motivation. I remember when I was in the hospital getting my tonsils out (as an adult). I didn't want to drink anything. Throat hurt to swallow. As a result of not drinking, I had no urge to urinate. The nurse said if I didn't urinate, they wouldn't let me go home and they would have to put in a ---- catheter-- . That did the trick. I was in the bathroom in a flash. If you don't get enough fluids in, you'll dehydrate and end up in the ER with and IV and a big expense. Keep sipping away....all day.

How do you get 70gm of protein without shakes
Recycled replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. I have even gotten so used to the taste, I look forward to drinking them. -
Well, it's been about 4 months and I'm getting sick of cooking my same ole dishes and bored with only eating at home. The wife's birthday came up and in accordance with usual event celebrations ........it called for eating out at a restaurant. So.......next question.....where and what?? Finally decided on Red Lobster. And the results were pleasantly unexpected. Instead of searching for some mini-appetizer or kids meal, I ended up ordering a huge Shrimp Trio. Turns out, with the Shrimp Scampi, I could count the shrimp for easy portion size in addition to shrimp being great for Protein. Not to mention, I love shrimp. I enjoyed it thoroughly an just boxed up the rest which will provide a few more meals at home. Had a couple of small bites of the wife's cheesecake to top it off and the whole outing stayed well within my daily food quotas, while being quite satisfying. Not such an ordeal after all. Once you get over the whole mini-meal hangup, eating out can be quite routine.
