    What would you do?

What has Thanksgiving ever done for you except help get you this point anyway.......Thumb you nose at that fat turkey and go for it. Ohh, and on Thanksgiving.......don't go anywhere near where they are serving Turkey or pie...
  2. Don't get me started on Coordinators. My Doc's usual coordinator went on vacation close to the end of my waiting period and another one took over. After many extra months of delays, tests having to be done over, numerous un-returned phone calls and lots of frustration.......she finally said everything was in order and submitted the paperwork. Two weeks later I got a call from the coordinator that had been on vacation (she was back) to tell me my application had been denied. After apologizing, she suggested that she redo the application and re-submit it again. - Two days later it was approved. Two weeks later I had my surgery. What's my point......I don't really have one....shit happens.......Just don't give up.....
  3. Like you, I also inquired on here and did some research about what to take to help prevent hair loss. The recommendations I gathered were to take Biotin. So, I have been taking 5000mcg daily, for several months and to tell you the truth, I can't tell if it has made any difference or not. I know I have lost some hair. Would I have lost as much it I didn't take it?? Maybe, maybe not. I feel it can't hurt, so what the heck. From what I read, the consensus was.....it will grow back when you stop losing so much weight and transition into a higher calorie maintenance diet. So hopefully, time will tell.
  4. You, more than most have good reason to be frustrated with the idiotic reasoning for many of the required tests and the disorganized manner of scheduling. However, It's likely more about the insurance companies throwing in roadblocks to provide them with avenues to deny applications. The coordinators just routinely go along filling out and submitting the apps and you're probably better off just strictly complying as to not disrupt the process which could detail your chances of approval. Just smile and jump thru the hoops. The new skinny you is at the end of the tunnel.....

    Gastric leak

Wow, you won't let this go. Of course a leak is serious. And typically the patient thinks everything is a leak.....especially the pain from gas. And I think the OP was asking "how far out is the risk of a leak" not if she has one??? Lighten up.....I was trying to ease her worry, not add to it...... If she thinks she has a leak, it's a question for her surgeon, not anyone on here.

    Sneezing

Yeah.....sneezing, runny nose, hiccups......all kinds of anomalies.. They can provide a benefit of signaling you're getting full....so not all bad.
  9. nprcowboy said: my surgery will be Robotic Assisted (Divinci). Have many had the robotic assisted, if so, any feedback or differences noticed? thx Seeing as I was both asleep and am not a Surgeon.........I didn't notice any difference..... Just messin with ya.. I did have the DaVinci Robotic method for my sleeve and everything turned out just fine. My Doc explained that the Robot provides him with much better range and dexterity along with several other benefits. Anything that makes his job easier and he feels provided for a better outcome was fine with me. I even had umbilical and hiatal hernias repaired during the surgery.

    Gastric leak

Not serious is exactly what I meant. Non serious issues often cause unnecessary worrying and will typically soon pass without incident. If a condition persists or gets worse, by all means have it checked out.

    Gastric leak

For as long as one's idle mind can fabricate issues and worry about incidental quirks and changes...... It you're really concerned, by all means talk to your surgeon.

    Day of surgery!

Try this little trick to relax you at the hospital. Every time they come in to take your routine BP......think deep in your mind of a pleasant relaxing place and try to see if you can lower your BP by mentally calming yourself.......It's kinda cool how easy it works...... You gonna do fine.......Good luck, See you on the loser's bench....
  17. In the interest of anything is possibly........ If there is any truth to this then I sympathize for you and your friend..... In the interest of what is more likely probable.........I don't buy it .............. Just another online made up BS story by a sick twisted mind....... Just enough details to make it sound like credible information.....and then throw in every possibly worst case scenario that can go wrong to try to scare the hell out of people reading.......even make the person a young mom with two little kids. To what purpose...... Online depravity....Trying to shock those personally invested and vulnerable.......Or some other twisted agenda.....who knows. Don't buy into it............ It didn't happen. The person in the story is made up. It is meant to be one of those stories you read and can't un-read. Ask yourself.....How did this person find this forum and.....who is the friend?? Is the friend a BP member?? Who? Where are the details about the OP. - the hospital? the surgeon? the husband? No pre-op anything.... Nothing personal at all......Just enough generic details to sway you to believe it's a real person. If they really did want answers from members with similar issues......then why not in the "Complications section of the forum. That is supposedly the ones your seeking answers from. Not that anyone would be able to provide assurances to someone else's complications anyway......makes no sense. Again it was purposely meant to lure everyone unsuspecting into the story and then scare the hell out of them.... Don't let it... Be upset for what it is. Made up farce. I could go on and on..........and to those of you that believe I'm wrong.....I'm sorry, but I refuse to be naive to this type of anonymous online scourge. Attention Admin: In closing, I make a suggestion. To the Admin of this site. In the interest of free speech, I don't advocate removing this Thread, but at least move it to the "Complications" section so others will be aware of the content beforehand.
  18. The reason it's a struggle is because it's a risky undertaking and not an easy decision. The good news is that getting approved for the surgery is a process that can take quite a while. Nothing is lost by moving forward with the approval process and using the time to hash over all the pros and cons along the way. It's not a decision you have to make right now. Good luck.

    Large Sleeve - Bypass Revision

Bittersweet said: I'm always perplexed by members telling someone not to listen to advice from other members, and then give advice themselves. Truly perplexing. You must easily be perplexed. The only advice (as you put it) I gave..... is to suggest she only rely on medical advice from professionals and to reinforce confidence in her own knowledge of her specific situation........ rather than from online forums. Try to keep up..... But in order to avoid perplexing you, she shouldn't pay any attention to my post either......

    Large Sleeve - Bypass Revision

First, I will say that I can understand your frustration and sympathize with your predicament. However, any attempts to gather advice on what you should do from an online forum would be ill advised. Your situation entails very specific medical details and needs medical professionals with hands-on understanding of your specific case. No one on here is qualified to suggest a course of action for your specific needs. You are already pursuing the logical path with obtaining advice from other surgeons and even approaching your original surgeon to find out his take. Having an attorney on board might even be a good idea. However, keep in mind that undesirable outcomes typically cause us to make assumptions or jump to conclusions that may not be valid. Get all the facts from your medical records and continue to consult with the other professionals on your options, so you can make a rational decision about what to do next. Good luck.

    Why You Chose That Surgery?

If you really want to know everyone's reason, start by reading about them in past threads and posts. There are thousands of stories on here. That will provide you with much more insight than the few responses you might receive to this one thread. Same goes for post surgery life style. Happy reading. Try the search too.
  22. Wow, you look like a model in a fashion magazine.........Congratulations. Much to be proud of.

    Carbs and Protein

There is no "one" formula. The deal with Protein is.....if you keep the protein up, it will preserve your muscle and more muscle will help you burn more calories. So, you'll lose more and not become weak and tired. Plus, it weighs more than fat and takes up less space so you'll lose inches and look thinner. If you're a guy, we try for even higher protein to gain more muscle mass. Ya know, the gender thing. (of course I can't explain why I didn't care about muscle when I was fat). Now about carbs. Like everybody says.... you don't want them. But you can't avoid them. When you eat anything striving for that protein.....you're gonna get some carbs. So don't fret, just try to avoid the stuff that is high in carbs and keep it as low as you can. The thing about Carbs is they cause you to crave more carbs and most of us were Carb junkies, so we won't be able to control it. So just avoid them like the plague, but don't panic when some slip in with your other food.

    Ugh....here we go again.

Well, I have lost over a hundred pounds in the last 9 months without surgery. I did it by only eating 500-800 calories a day, knocking out carbs, sugar, fatty foods, eating lots of Protein and doing endless exercising. And lucky for me I have this little stomach that will only hold a few ounces at a time.

did I just ruin my chances?

When I went to my Shrink's appointment I put the cards on the table before we even got started. I told him, " I'm paying you for this session so that I can get my sleeve surgery. If you have any reservations or considerations that would cause you to not recommend me for the surgery.... tell me now and I will cancel the appointment and go elsewhere. - I AM GETTING THIS SURGERY!! So tell me what you need to approve this and let's wrap this up. Do we understand each other.? " He said no problem and we continued with the session and all went well. Not that I suggest anyone else should do this.....just saying nothing was going to stop me, especially someone I am paying.
