Dr. Arthur Carlin, Henry Ford Hospital Detroit, Mi
Pixie Dust replied to frpringle's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Well, I was assigned Dr. Carlin & went for my first meeting/consultation with him yesterday & while he impressed me & I felt really happy that he was going to be my doctor, at the moment, I can't get past seeing the absolutely FILTHY exam room I was in! I was so disgusted, I fired off an email to the program director of the Henry Ford hospital near my home, where I have been completing all my required steps for surgery & the email I sent to her, was passed around to everyone with authority at the clinic while I was there. Before long, as I passed by the room I had been in that was so disgusting, I saw a housekeeping cart outside the door so phone calls were made! I'm glad for that because no one should visit a clinic/hospital & see the near golf ball size dust bunnies & other dirty/disgusting things. I just couldn't sit there & say nothing. Even as soon as Dr. Carlin walked in, the first thing I mentioned was how appalled I was at how dirty the room was & he looked around, apologized & quickly shot off an email & then got up & said "lets move to a different room...this room is awful!" The next room was better but everytime I close my eyes, I still see room 6 in my head! I also had one nurse that was so rude & mean that my husband was surprised I didn't ask her if her Mother hadn't taught her any manners. Sadly while I do have a surgery date set, I'm actually looking into a different hospital program. -
My heavens! My mouth just dropped open! Good for you!! I'm pre-op too! I have my surgery date for July 15th (I requested summer due to my kids being off school) but I had a really bad experience at the hospital I'm supposed to have my surgery at yesterday when I went to meet my surgeon for the first time, so now I'm researching another hospital in case I want to switch I have good insurance so I can do anywhere. I want to post a great post like you one day soon too!!!!

So, is soda a no-no because it causes pain or complications?
Pixie Dust replied to marfar7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my doctor yesterday since I went for my consultation appointment & he said "why would you want to put all those chemicals in your body???!!" So I guess that's a "no" for him. -

Wow!! 14 lbs in such a short time??!! When has that happened before?? Never to me! You go girl!!! -
Oh heavens, if my memory gets any worse, I won't remember my own name! I haven't been sleeved yet but now I'm really frightened! Are you diabetic? I know that when my sugar is off, I get a bit confused & can't remember things. Good luck to you & I'll be interested in reading some answers that come out on this thread!

First appt with the surgeon tomorrow!
Pixie Dust replied to Pixie Dust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your response! I'm more worried about the weight they want me to lose before surgery! I haven't lost anything since my April 8th meeting when the program manager said "from here on out, you count your calories, yada, yada, yada, & if you gain weight, it's all over. Everything gets cancelled." OMG! I'd die if that happened! Well, whatever happens, happens I guess. Are you waiting for insurance approval? It's a covered benefit under my plan so I'm supposed to be given a surgery date tomorrow. If I'm this nervous over a consultation, imagine what I'm going to be like day of surgery! ** sweating bullets** -
Do you have about 8 steps to go thru before surgery? I've gone thru just about all of them except for the exercise appt. Tomorrow I meet my surgeon for the first time! I'm a little nervous! Good luck to you Sa'!

Do You Drink Coffee, How Much Weight Have You Lost?

Those of you that say you've had or you drink coffee, do you mean regular or decaf? -
Lack of pre-op weight loss!
Pixie Dust replied to ridermel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh boy...I feel your pain! I was told to lose at least 15 lbs but I've also been going up & down. I have a consultation appt with my surgeon on Friday & supposedly, if he sees I've gained weight, it's over. No surgery. WTH???? So I may be looking elsewhere to get my surgery. I have good insurance & it's a covered benefit so I can go just about to any WLS program but I've gone so far with this particular hospital. I understand the fact that it's best for surgery but I hope I can actually lose something before my surgery. This appt on Friday, supposedly, the doc will give me a surgery date. One of the many hoops I've had to jump thru.... -
Haha! Small bowels!

depressed and hungry
Pixie Dust replied to Lee 316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are so kind & supportive Laura...hope you'll stick around here till after I have my surgery cause I know I'm going to need the same support! As for Lee, I hope everything settles down quickly for you. I'm worried I'm going to feel hungry too. There is no worse feeling...well, maybe labor pains but even after those, you get a reward! I don't know what to say except that I'll pray for you now. Good luck sweetie & keep your chin up. Happy days are coming! -
Hmm. Weird. Almost offended.
Pixie Dust replied to Itsme!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, that was rude on his part. You should be VERY proud of what you've accomplished so far! I don't think I could lose 37 lbs on my own at all in fact! Kudo's to you! -
Awesome news honeymunki! Keep up the great job!!!

I wanna be just like you!!!!!!!!!!! I always take a bottle up to my room at night (water that is...haha) & if I wake up in the night, I drink cause I'm thristy & I guzzle down half a bottle at a time. Hoping I can do that again one day! I should start practicing now taking small sips but I always forget!

My Journey 6 mos post op
Pixie Dust replied to Kristi71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have all of the above mentioned co-morbidities. Well, not sure about sleep apnea, but who knows? I'm just into my 50's & while I still haven't had the sleeve done, I wish I had thought of it at least 10-15 years ago. I've been carrying the majority of my weight for nearly 20 years also. I feel sorry that my husband got stuck with this. He married a beautiful woman & I'd like to become that woman again...altho he's such a saint, he still looks at me as if I was still that beautiful woman. He has NEVER mentioned my weight. Maybe he doesn't see it? LOL! He still makes me feel as beautiful as I once was. I'm a lucky woman. Now I want to be a healthy woman too! I am scared but not having the sleeve, I'm guaranteed to die of a disease caused by me being obese, so I really have no choice. I'll be around when you get those pics posted! -
Wow! You go you sexy thang! Congrats on your weight loss too! You must look like a different person already! Yay you is right!
-
This is what my surgeon requires of his patients. I wish I'd have gotten a surgeon who lets you eat even just one meal per day! I really don't know how I'm going to survive this, especially since I'll still have to cook for my family! Ugghh.....I can already hear my tummy grumbling!
