Best thing after surgery and whats been the hardest?
Pixie Dust replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's wonderful that even tho you have regrets, that you are able to find a positive! That's one step closer to acceptance, which will bring you peace eventually. Wishing you the best! -
I have never stared at a glass of water with such hatred.

Pop Chippy things?
Pixie Dust replied to girlrfriday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They sell something similar at a gourmet market by us, but they're called "Coco Lite Multigrain Pop Cakes." The market I go too has a machine that makes them & they pop right out in front of you. They are about $2.99 per bag of 15. The bag says for questions or comments: Coco International, Inc., Ridgefield, NJ 07657 www.cocofoods.com . They also come in different flavors but not as many as the ones listed above. They're crunchy & sometimes I need that "crunchy" factor to satisfy me. I'm not sleeved yet but watching what I'm eating. I have put cottage cheese or lowfat ricotta on mine with just a tiny drizzle of sugar free cherry jam. It tastes like a sinful dessert! -

Congratulations! You look absolutely beautiful! -
...to walk around Disney World on our next vacation, with my kids, instead of trying to find a park bench to plop myself on!

I'm so sorry that you're not getting any support, especially from the one person you truly counted on but don't feel alone. We're all here in this together & we're all here for you as well. Someone who has never lived the struggle will never know or understand our battle, so you do what you need to do for you & never mind anyone else. I could never understand my cousin's wife who was addicted to crack. She had 2 beautiful children & one was a special needs child who really needed his mama. I kept thinking to myself, why can't she just STOP??!!!! Why can't she go to counseling???!!! Rehab??? Well, now having my own demons (my fat) to be rid of, I understand....there are some things you can't do alone. Lucky for us, there is surgery. Unfortunately for my cousin's wife, there was no surgery for her addiction & sadly she O.D'd one day, leaving behind a beautiful 13 y/o daughter & a 17 y/o special needs son. So you do what YOU need to do for YOU & pay no mind to the ones who want to squash your choice of becoming healthy. Thank you for reminding me why I'm not sharing my surgery decision with anyone else either! My hubby & my 2 best friends from out of state know & my one neighbor who doesn't talk to the other neighbors knows (in case I need help with my special needs son while recouperating or whatever). No one else needs to know & I need all my strength to get me thru this part of my life without someone being negative about my decision. Good luck to you & know that you'll have a lot of support & encouragement here. I see it every day!

Thinking about VSG- some recovery questions after my long winded explainations

How wonderful for you to have Hawaii to look forward too! I've never been there. I'm planning on a Disney (FL) trip in December & hoping to be sleeved in July/Aug & am looking forward to walking the parks with a lot less weight to drag around! We're also renting a condo this time around because I may need a kitchen but all in all, I'm looking forward to bringing my sleeve to Disney World! -
I find that odd too but if you should hear of a doctor that lets his patients have pizza, pasta & burgers right up to surgery, please give me the Doc's name & number so I can make an appt with him/her!!!

Congratulations! That's wonderful news! My last test was 6.2 but normally I'm able to keep it below 6. I'm hoping to get rid of the Glumetza myself! Especially since it's not as inexpensive as Metformin! My pills cost me $200 every 3 months!

knee surgery before sleeve?
Pixie Dust replied to jennyfromthewood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm planning on having knee surgery AFTER my sleeve. Hoping to get another year or two out of this bone on bone knee...maybe I will after I'm not dragging so much weight around! -
How wonderful for you Tania! Thanks so much for sharing! Gives us all hope!!

how do you keep this a secret?
Pixie Dust replied to miangr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
gmanbat, you cracked me up! LOL! I cannot confirm or deny is what I was instructed to say when I was working on a top secret project for the D.O.D. (many moons ago)! I guess the same can apply here! LOL! I'm telling everyone (if anyone should ask) that I had or am having hernia surgery. That is what my kids will know too. When I go on the Protein shakes prior to surgery, I will say the surgeon recommended I lose some weight & to give me a jump start, I'm doing the Protein drinks. As people start to notice the weight loss, I will then just say "I'm on a medically supervised diet." That will be it. If they probe some more, I'll just say "I'm so hungry, I can't talk about food now!" LOL! -
Relatively new; anyone have a child with autism?
Pixie Dust replied to smt216's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Aww....how sweet of your little man. He wants to feel grown up but we know that they are always our babies! In fact, my oldest son who will be 18 in a couple of weeks, calls me "mommie" when we're alone at home. He also loves it when I call him "baby" but if we're out in public, he doesn't know me. Haha!! Thank you for the warm welcome! I appreciate it very much. -
OMGosh, I **LOVE** spinach! I just forget to use that instead of romaine but thanks for the reminder! Totally agree with you on the "best prescription ever" from a doctor letting you know that filet would be better. Unfortunately, we can't afford it! LOL!
-
Studies show that there are absolutely zero nutrients in iceberg lettuce, but plenty in romaine. So since I read that, I made the switch. I love salads & will miss them after I'm sleeved, until I can eat them again!! Must make mental note to try that berry salad! YUM!!

Oh...now I understand, but yes, everyone is giving you the best advice. You must be in the best health possible before having this surgery. It's only postponed, not cancelled. It's only 90 more days or so ~ give or take a week or two. You can do it...you have time to lose more weight in the meantime or practice what it will be like being sleeved, like taking small sips, small bites, chewing the heck out of food, etc...just look at it that you have just a bit more time for "training" before stepping into the ring! Don't despair. P.S. I need to take my own advice too!

I don't know if I'm welcome here yet since I haven't been sleeved yet but hopefully next month! I have an 11 y/o son, with autism, who was non-verbal till he was almost 4 & then clear out of the blue, he started singing a Bon Jovi song which I had playing in the van. I almost crashed I was so excited to hear him sing! I pulled over & hugged him (I cried like a baby too) & was asking him "what did you say??? What did you say???!!!" Nothing. Just looked forward with a blank expression on his beautiful face...I thought that maybe I wanted him to speak so badly that I just imagined it. He didn't say anything again for at least a week & then again, he was singing "shot through the heart, & you're to blame, you give love a bad name." I never did like that particular song but I sure do love it now! Fast forward to now & he's talking & singing where sometimes I've caught myself saying "sush!" haha! He's my life. He's a real cuddle/love bug. He struggles in school & is about 2nd grade reading level but with the help of an aide & his teacher's support, he is honor roll (with an adjusted cirriculum). Like you all have said, I'm doing this to be around for him. In fact, a few months ago he said to me "Mama, can't you lose weight, because I'm afraid you will die & if you die, I'll die." OMG...have tears welling up in my eyes right now just repeating that. That child is my shadow. So I have to do this for him & for me. While I don't know what the future will bring, I do know I want to be around for him for as long as God lets me stay here with him. Nice to meet you all! -
