Today: Friend I haven't seen in about a year: "Wow, you lost a LOT of weight! When did you lose all that weight?" Me: "Last week." Seemed nicer than saying "You haven't seen me in a year - when did you THINK I lost it?!?" -

Hi MAMAuntie, just wondering how you're doing and how the healing has gone. Would love to see some current pictures of your surgery! -

I started losing my hair at almost 4 months exactly, and it's kind of alarming how much I lose every day! It comes out in handfuls in the shower and when I brush it, but although I can totally tell the difference, no one else has even noticed. Every morning as I wash my hair and see what falls out I think 'there's no way this can continue, pretty soon I will be bald!' but so far I still have hair left! And I can actually see the new growth, so I know it's coming back. And if I DO go bald, I'm gonna rock it!!!

Wow, I wasn't really expecting much of a response, but it seems like a lot of people have this problem post-op! I Googled "insomnia post wls surgery" and a bunch of stuff came up. Time to start researching! I'm also seeing my NUT today, so going to ask her if she's heard of this & if there's anything I can change with my diet. I find it interesting that we all feel exhausted, but still can't sleep. I did get almost 7 hours last night, and although I can definitely tell a difference between that and the nights I only get 4 or 5, I was still tired this morning. It was really nice not to wake up at 4am & lay there for hours, though! Does anyone take any homeopathic or natural sleep aids? Or have some other thing that helps you get to sleep (aside from Bufflehead's suggestion )? I'm thinking of trying meditation...

4 months out and falling off wagon

I don't find this particularly helpful, as it is inaccurate. Weights CAN burn as much as cardio, provided you keep your heart rate in the right zone. If you have a personal trainer who just tells you "lose weight, cardio, cardio and more cardio", then you have a BAD TRAINER. And injury should not be a concern if your trainer is monitoring what you do - that is one of the key benefits of having a trainer, to prevent injury! Weight training isn't just 'sculpting', it's building muscle to enable your body to be more efficient at burning the calories you consume, as well as your excess fat Not everyone chooses to use a personal trainer, nor does everyone need one; but if you do, you should be sure to get one who is knowledgeable, knows or is willing to learn about WLS, and who is willing to partner with you on your goals. I expect as much knowledge, commitment, and dedication from my personal trainer as I do from my NUT and my doctor. To the OP - I'm 4 months out as well, and feel many of the same challenges. I find I can eat more now than a few months, or even weeks, ago. And carbs like bread, Pasta, etc. will always be a challenge to me. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't. What helps me when I don't is knowing I can easily get back on track, not just by doing the things the other posters have suggested, which definitely work for me, but also by knowing that I've made so many positive changes in my life to this point - taking the leap to get WLS, working out, making good food choices even some of the time - that I KNOW I can make good choices again. I choose to focus on my new found ability to do the right thing for me, and accept that even if I make a poor choice it isn't permanent. The weight WILL come off; sometimes slower, and sometimes faster, but it will be gone. Sixty pounds is a LOT in four months, and you should be proud of the positive choices you made to get to this point. You've done an amazing job! -

How do you handle attention from the opposite sex now that you've been sleeved and are SUPER HOT?

Butter, it's ALL out loud now! But none of that for you, you're doing fantastic & inches away from your TT (of which I am massively jealous, I might add)!! -

I can't articulate why this thread makes me so happy, but the dirty-minded juvenile in me is just beside herself! C'mon Pokey, post more BCA stuff!

Best and worst "compliments"
zenandnow replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ok, today was my worst: my former boss said "How's the dieting going?" Me: "Well - I've lost 50 lbs" Him: "Fifteen?" Me: "No, FIFTY" Him: (glances at me incredulously) "Really? Fifty?" YES, A-HOLE, FIFTY!!!! -
I'm starting to feel energized. I'm starting to feel like maybe, just maybe, I can pull this off! I've had a few missteps, I've tested myself, but I haven't completely f'ed this up yet....amazing! I've never stuck to a diet this long with this much determination - 5 months! And this is a new way of life, not just a diet! How is it possible I haven't screwed it up yet? How is it possible I've lost 49 pounds? How is it possible I'm able to check off the goals on my list with regularity and this is all still happening? I'm blown away. I can't believe I'm doing this! I can't believe I've begun to look forward to working out! Me, the lazy, fat girl who loves her couch! Unbelievable!! I'm actually contemplating doing things I never thought I would do, things that scare me, challenge me, push me......and I'm actually starting to believe I can do them.... Here's to four goals down, 1 lb to the fifth goal, and 10 lbs to halfway!!! Lose 20 lbs - complete! Get under 200 lbs - complete! Lose 45 lbs - complete! Get to 190 - complete! Lose 50 lbs Get to 186 Get to 180 Get to 179 (halfway!) Get to 165 Get to 160 Get to 155 Get to 150 Get to 145 Get to 140 Get to 135 Get to 125 Get to 120

Anyone GAIN weight and still got insurance approval?
zenandnow replied to Mrs_Johnson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did! My insurance (United Healthcare) required a 6 month supervised diet, and my surgeon required a 2 day liquid diet pre-op. I yo-yo'd during the six months, but overall I gained rather than lost. The liquid pre-op took a few pounds off, but not much. Insurance still approved me, and the coordinator basically told me that it's pretty typical for people to not lose or even gain. As long as it's supervised, that was all they cared about. I did find it ironic that it was supervised by the surgeon who wanted to perform surgery (kind of a conflict of interest there), but insurance assumes that the doctor is ensuring that I am eating healthy, tracking my food, and exercising. None of which happened (or only happened sporadically), but nonetheless - they approved. -
