2 miles yesterday puts me at 6.6, and 505 squats!
-
I'm at five months now; still losing hair. My stylist says I've lost about 50%. I had a lot to start with, so it's not too bad, but I can totally tell. She says it should slow down soon. Fingers crossed. I cut about three inches off, blunted it on the ends, and that's helped make it look a little fuller. Not much else I can do. She did say I have a ton of new growth, though. So at least there's that!

Creatine and beta-alanine for strength and endurance
zenandnow replied to Fiddleman's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks, Fiddle. It's helpful to hear this stuff from people who have some experience under their belt. -
Thanks Butter - I'll give those a try! Fiddle - I dare you!

Creatine and beta-alanine for strength and endurance
zenandnow replied to Fiddleman's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Fiddle, I'm curious - how do you manage to get in so many supplements & Vitamins? I know you are much further along than I (I am just past 5 months) but I still struggle to get in all my vitamins & supplements. Do you space them throughout the day? Also, with regard to the creatine & beta-alanine, do you think these supplements are more for advanced fitness, or do you think you would have had better results if you had used them earlier on in your fitness development? I find it difficult to know what I should be doing now, as opposed to what I should be doing when I have developed more endurance & strength. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, and it's hard to sort through. Do you just determine by trial & error what works for you? -
I'm with Fiddle - I know I need to get in more vegetables, and I've gone so far as to buy a juicer, but the idea of putting spinach or kale in my shakes just makes me scrunch up my face! Doesn't help that the kale chips remind me of the algae that used to grow in my daughter's fish tank. Enough people have assured me that when you add greens to a shake it doesn't taste like kale, so I'm going to try it, but I need some recipes. Butter - any suggestions on a good book or web site with shake recipes that include the greens? Or can you share your recipe?

Ya got me there, Butter! It will definitely be more than last month!!

Yep, there I am, going along at a snail's pace! 2 miles yesterday for a grand total of 6.6 miles as of 10/4. I have managed to keep up on my Squatober challenge, though, and as of yesterday was at 405. Going to try to get on my borrowed bike today; looks like I'm going to have to get a lot of gear! Haven't been on a bike in forever, so I'll need a helmet & whatever else one is supposed to wear to ride nowadays. And Laura-ven - just for the record, I like the "Going Backwards Posse". It sounds kinda gansta. You know, like a bunch of wimpy white ladies should sound!

I'm sticking with both, Butter. Chugging along! I hope I start to see some changes in myself. Specifically, I'd like my butt to be in the general area in which it should be! My trainer put me up to it; someone started a page on Facebook called 'Squatober', and The challenge is: 4,000 Squats (Beginner) (~130 Squats/Day) 7,000 Squats (Intermediate) (~225 Squats/Day) 10,000 Squats (Advanced) (~323 Squats/Day) I'm aiming for 100 per day; so far, so good! Check it out, I think anyone can join. My stats: Today - 2.2 miles, 105 squats Total to date: 4.6 miles, 305 squats

Sounds like you should be a higher belt than her! I'm a little jealous - there aren't many situations where it's acceptable to actually hit the person you don't like!

1.1 miles yesterday, for a total of 2.4. A lot slower than most folks on here, but I'm movin'! Trying out the bike this weekend, so hopefully I can put on some miles that way. Also up to 200 squats for my Squatober challenge; thinking that maybe doing both challenges in one month wasn't the best idea - the legs are purty sore!!
-
So excited! My trainer has decided to match my 100 miles!! She's awesome, this will totally help keep me going. And Laura-Ven inspired me to get a bike (for now I'm going to borrow one). I haven't ridden a bike in 33 years!!! I'm starting to think I might actually be able to get to 100!!

1.3 miles today - not a great start, but at least I got off the couch! And I joined the Squatober challenge my trainer put me up to - 100 squats today. Add to that my 45 strength training workout & I'm feeling smiley

Hey all - here's a handy tool to convert your steps to miles based on your stride length (good way to check your pedometer, depending on what kind you use): http://www.walk4life.com/customerservice/forms_stepstomiles.aspx I'd like to know how many miles I cover in a day above & beyond my exercise.

Dr U, I'm in the same boat. We'll keep each other company! I'm going to do my best to push to 100, but I'll be happy with staying motivated & active no matter the number!

Need advice from the vets on a mental stall
zenandnow replied to zenandnow's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thank you all for the suggestions, and the SUPPORT! I am so grateful to those of you who still come on the forum and are so willing to share your knowledge and advice; it is priceless!!! It is nice to know others have gone before me. I do use MFP (thankfully, I've kept it up even when I cringe at what I'm entering) and I wear a BodyMedia core armband every day, so I have a pretty accurate account of what's going in my mouth & what I'm burning. I manage to stay under cals, but the protein/carb/water balance is a challenge for me. I know eventually I will get the hang of it, it's just frustrating. I'm going to try the suggestion about putting up a note for myself; and the comment about being in the honeymoon phase resonates - I DO need to take advantage of this!! Thank you all, I really appreciate your help!! -

Woo HOO! Thanks! -
So I hit another goal today, but I'm in a slump!! Not doing great on getting my protein or water in, slacking off seriously on the vitamins, and didn't exercise for 5 days while my trainer was on vacation!! Serious case of the lazies. Trying to dig deep for the motivation to get back on track and get to my next goal, but I'm having a hard time finding the oomph I need to kick me into gear. I'm 7 lbs from halfway, that should be motivating, right? And yet......I lag. Lose 20 lbs - complete! Get under 200 lbs - complete! Lose 45 lbs - complete! Get to 190 - complete! Lose 50 lbs- complete! Get to 186 - complete! Get to 179 (halfway!) Get to 165 Get to 160 Get to 155 Get to 150 Get to 145 Get to 140 Get to 135 Get to 125 Get to 120

Sounds YUM, looking forward to it! -
What could she possibly criticize you for?!? But if she does, maybe you can get in a few miles by running away from HER!
