Nutritionist vs. Dietician
capeciw replied to Museum-Mama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Being a language specialist I have to point out that "cian" is considered a variant spelling, although not used in research papers- it is a commonly accepted variation. One of the reasons why many spell checks don't flag it. -
Nutritionist vs. Dietician
capeciw replied to Museum-Mama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My nut is a registered dietician. -
I puréed everything, just like I did for my kids. Even meatballs, meatloaf, etc. split pea soup was good too. I ate a lot of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt (both nonfat)- but sometimes wanted something hot too. Fat free refried beans were awesome too. I just found that beans, meat, mashed cauliflower (great alternative to mashed potatoes but you have to add some protein powder) were things I had to eat much slower than cottage cheese and yogurt.

Did your husband support your decision?
capeciw replied to musiclover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The practice I used for my surgery has a weight loss support group for spouses. My husband was supportive about the surgery, but the week before it he bugged out a little bit. He said of course he was worried about the actual act of surgery (we have 3 children) but was also worried if I'd be happy, would change our relationship, would I still be able to enjoy going out to dinner, etc. I was kind of shocked and blind sides even though he was "nice" about it. He went to the support group and came back feeling better. Said after he thought about it, it was a good decision for my health and that is what he really wanted for me. I'm 3+ weeks post and he has been on board. I think it is really natural for spouses to feel a little threatened--- change is hard for people (don't we know it!!). We just have to stay focuses an remember at the end of the day-- we are the ones who have to take control of our health. -
I was asking the same thing a couple weeks ago-- worried my sleeve wasn't working. Lol. As you get back to eating foods you'll experience it more. Now i just feel satiated and if i have one bite too many, a mild pressure. For me, what I knew as "full" before my surgery was stuffed beyond capacity. I have had to relearn what "full" means. Especially since I have been lucky enough not to have complications or difficulties with eating (yet, fingers crossed!)

Surgery date! but it is 2 months away.
capeciw replied to taurabird's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your date and for the jnfo!! Also the stomach naturally "relaxes" when you begin eating. Your sleeve is tighter and will not do that anymore- this can cause more acid issues for some people. I haven't had reflux at all and feel very fortunate. For me, the full feeling is nothing like the full feeling before I was sleeved. It is a very different sense of pressure vs. feeling like I over ate. -
How do you deal with sabotage and negativity from others?
capeciw replied to DecoGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so angry for you!!! Unfortunately, drs don't all come with compassion aNd people skills. As a society we think they have all the answers and they don't. And excuse me, but as people who were overweight we are EXPERTS about weight loss-- we have a battle executing it. We are EXPeRTS at being realistic and I had a very good friend just tell me, while laughing, that most people gain weight back with this ( not true). It really hurt me and made me doubt myself. And here us the deal- you know you. You are awesome and look how much you gave done already. Get a new dr--- this one doesn't get it and should go in to research not treatment. -
Dont feel bad about feeling like this or that you were foolish for making a mistake. Many of us have been there!! It gets better!! I eyed rolled at it when people told me but I'm just a week and a half farther than you and I feel so much more adjusted. Everything felt so isolating in the beginning. Your body will start to heal and that alone will help you tackle the eating. Hang in there !!

Low Grade Fever, Sleeved 2 Days Ago
capeciw replied to jennybittyboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one and they told me it was common with bariatric patients if they had any little bit of fluid in lungs. I had to kick up the use of my spirometer. Good luck to her and what a great sis for seeking support/answers. -
You look great! I'm 2 weeks and 2 days post- cant wait to get to see the results you are. Congrats!!!

Calling seasoned sleevess - Im fre- c
capeciw posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im hoping some seasoned sleevers can help me. I feel badly posting this when I read some of the difficulties people are having. I'm a little over a week post op- started purée today and am having no issues. With anything. I can see where getting your fluids in can be tough in the beginning balancing food and hydration, but I ate just about a little less than measured for each: 1/4 cup egg at Breakfast, 1/4 cup refried Beans at lunch and 1/4 cup Greek yogurt and chicken purée. I still have to have one Protein shake. I didn't feel too uncomfortable, it didn't hurt and then I worried that my sleeve isn't working. I know this is dumb because I shouldn't have to have issues ( and don't want them!!) and know that I'm still so early on--- what do I know!? I'm most terrified that it is not working and I won't lose. I am trying to really watch my sugars and carbs and only incorporate them where I really want (said refried beans). Has anyone further along and successful felt like this? My calorie count today after my last Protein Shake will be about 550. All last week on liquids I was around 300. Now I know this is ridiculous because no one is going to gain weight with that count!! -
I'm so glad to find this thread. I just posted about the same thing in the post op thread!!

I just reread this and between your good point about it still being numb and the fact that I left half of one egg when not so long ago I would eat a three egg omelet, bacon, hash brown and 2 pieces toast and not always be done shows me I am crazy and doing fine. Lol. -

Thanks for the response!! I am following the instructions to a "t". Suppose to have 3 puree meals and 2 Protein shakes, and all the 6-8 ounces of Water. Got in a little over 60 protein today. Hard to know exact because I didn't eat all of what I measured or made, except for Protein Shakes which were 25 g each. I made one egg which ended up 1/4 cup all fluffy but i left about half or so. Every "meal" i left half to a third. Got in 9-8 ounces glasses if water, not counting shakes. My phone stop watch got a work out.!!! It was a full time job to coordinate it all and stop drinking around eating (30 min before was easy, 2 after was harder) and i can see that being difficult- but the eating and drinking is going fine. I guess I just feel like it is going too smoothly. I know I should be happy with that, and am, but really prepared myself for more difficulty. Tomorrow I'm going to have try some cottage cheese for breakfast, yogurt for lunch and some turkey meatball/sauce purée or mashed potatoes for dinner ---have to see how I feel on the last one. -

Title should say calling seasoned sleevers! Darn auto correct!!! -
I had my surgery on Friday 3/15 and for at least two weeks I read every this site every night. Your stories and tips were so helpful and kept me positive. When I would freak out at three am and think about backing out, your encouragement kept me going. Thank you thank you thank you! Best moment of my life (beyond my kiddos) was when I was discharged and the doctor said, " and no more blood pressure meds for home. Lets stop those". I'm teary eyed just typing it. I'm looking forward to gas relief, have some under my shoulder that makes me a bit cranky by end of day and looking forward to getting in some Protein shakes next week- hoping it helps my recovery. Getting in some consistent liquids but find much of the Powerade, broth, sugar free Popsicles taste weird now- but totally manageable. My sleeve is noisy and I get a little burp 1-2 times a day. I think I'm swallowing air when I swallow because I'm too cautious! Lol. This from the girl that would inhale a slice of pizza with barely a chew! My question is Protein shake brand recommendations or recipes? I see quite a few in line that look delicious but have more carbs or calories than I want to do. Would love to hear what you do. I start purée next week but even for later- protein recommendations are welcome.

Thank you! Protein shake question
capeciw replied to capeciw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I am soooo excited to have one tomorrow! Fingers crossed that it goes down ok. Off clear liquids one more day. Woohoo! -
Yay! Hope it works out!

Hi all. I'm a speech language pathologist and work a great deal with swallowing disorders. Sippy cups can cause a lot of air pressure issues mostly because of the valve. If you throw those out, you might do better. The valve stops spillage, so you'll have to be careful. Haha.

Congrats!!!!!!!

Today is my SURGERY . 6 am
capeciw replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will do great! The hardest part of all this for me was making the decision to go that morning. I nervously joked with my husband that we could just skip it and "go to breakfast". Those words tell the whole story of why I had to make that appointment. Congratulations you brave, beautiful woman!!!!!!!
