What's Unique About Being A 50S Sleever?
TJL replied to EileenFrances's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, Marilyn, I am a slow loser too, but at least it is coming off. I've been in a stall for a couple of week but expect that I will start losing again soon. I am also post- menopausal so I'm sure that is helping to slow things down too. Hopefully we will both do well even if it is slow. Good Luck. -
Thanks for the info.

Four months and nine days Post OP
TJL replied to Lunaya's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's wonderful, and so happy for you. Congrats on getting your life back. -
Yea, count me in. I'm a small person but I could definitely eat a lot of carbs, fresh bread, mashed potatoes, french fries, all the carby goodness that I just can't handle. I always tried to watch the amount of carbs I ate but since the sleeve it at least for me it's so much better. After I've had my protein and veggies I am FULL! There's no room for anything else, it's so good because I was never full before.

I agree with everyone else here, don't have the brownie, you had the cheesecake and the carbs just make you want more bad carbs. If you feel like you must eat something grab some dense protein, i bet you can't eat a lot of that, it's what causes our restriction, carbs tend to be sliders so of course you can eat more of them. Then do what the others here have suggested, brush your teeth, go outside, or just watch the game, get your mind off the bad stuff and the urges will pass. oh, and for shock value log the calories from the cheesecake into MFP.

I was always a savory kind of gal, didn't really go for sweets but chips are evil, at least for me. Like Supersweetums I don't keep them in the house, then when I'm bored I can't eat them like I used to, I actually go for a bike ride or a walk, not the same thing as salty crunchy chips, but by doing something else I get my mind off of them. Now we can have cake or sweets in the house and they don't tempt me, so I guess you just have to decide if you have enough will power not to eat a lot of your trigger foods.By not having them I don't have to have strong will power.

yeah, ice cream's a slider, the protein fills you up because it's dense, so you need less of it to feel full. I can eat a lot of popcorn if I wanted to, but chose not to 'cause I want this thing to work. and popcorn used to be a big favorite of mine. Keep things like ice cream for an occasional treat and you'll be fine.

Girl, you are gorgeous, keep up the great work, hope I can look half as good when I get to nine months.

expected weight loss by group
TJL replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, you could be talking about me, Female, post-menopausal, and heading past middle age. I have lost 51 lbs in 5 months but so what, I'm happy that I could lose it, I don't care how fast it comes off as long as it does.I'm in smaller size clothing and I feel great except for the GERD, but if that's what it takes to lose so be it. Plus I'm happy and I don't feel deprived, I can eat just about anything, of course I restrict my carbs but I did that before surgery too, so no biggie. They say slow and steady wins the race and if it takes me 2-3 years to lose what I need to that's OK. I read a lot of the veteran's posts and lots of them have taken a lot longer than 6 months to get to goal. Relax, you'll do fine as long as you stick to the program. -
Frustrated: Light-headed and constant stalls - what could be wrong?
TJL replied to TvlGrl712's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TvlGrl, are you on any kind of meds that may need to be adjusted? Don't get discouraged, i lose weight slowly too but it does come off, I see from your ticker that you are one of the "smaller people" that has had WLS, I was about the same as you and my Doc called me a light weight(a light weight at 248lbs Ha!!) Some of the people here started at weights much higher so naturally they will lose a lot of weight at first, then it kind of evens out. If you're not on any meds you may want to talk to your Doc about the light-headeness. I was on blood pressure meds and nearly passed out from them my pressure got to low. Now I don't take any of them. -
You look great! Congrats!!

9 month checkup and 'healthy' BMI range
TJL replied to notmeanymore's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats, I so appreciate hearing about people that their weight comes off slowly but it does come off. I lose slowly too, so you give me hope that I can lose all I need to even if it takes me a couple of years. -
The one thing I can't wait to wear...

jeans with my shirt tucked in. Heels instead of flats, 'cause my feet hurt too much in heels when I am over-weight. -
Handling the Holidays with a Baby Sleeve
TJL replied to Sleevesdropper's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am the cook for most big holiday gatherings, but this year my sister offered to take over the cooking, to which I readily agreed. However, I am still making mac&cheese for Christmas because my nephews only get it once a year and I make them each a pan to take home with them. Mac & cheese doesn't really tempt me much so should be ok. Most of the time there is so much activity going on that no one really knows if I have eaten or not. Hope things work out ok for you sleevesdropper. -
This is one of the reasons that I do strength training even though I hate every blessed minute of it. Sometimes I can hear my trainer at the gym in my sleep saying ... come on you can do 2 more reps.... ugh!!

Congrats, keep it up!

What foods can you simply not have anymore?

Disappointed with weight loss progress
TJL replied to KiteeVA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kitee, you don't say what you started at but if you were on the smaller side you won't lose as fast as someone that is much larger. Stick with the program, higher protein, low carb lots of liquids and you will be successful. I've lost 51lbs in 5 months which is not as speedy as some but I'm happy with it and don't forget everyone is different. -
Welcome and good luck to you, sounds like you are already making positive changes. That's so funny about your daughter and the clothes stealing!
-
I think that you need to stop eating before you get to that point. I used too eat to fast too, would get the same nauseous feeling and then get very hot. I started getting very strict about measuring out my food and it really helps a lot. What we have to remember is that our head thinks we need way more food than our new stomach does. Good luck to you!

Anyone have allergic reaction to steri strips?
TJL replied to Living Lean 13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yup, I told the hospital repeatedly that I was allergic to adhesives and they would have to use paper tape, but they still put on steri strips and bandaids. I had a terrible allergic reaction which was actually worse than the surgery, took 4 weeks for the rash, itching and hives to go away, The funny thing was that about 8 different people asked me prior to surgery what I was allergic to, they all wrote it down and then the surgical team ignored it. -

I will regret this for the rest of my life
TJL replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really struggled before I opted for the sleeve. Prior to that for at least a couple of years my PCP kept suggesting WLS, but I kept trying to do it on my own, and believe me I tried everything out there. i have always been active, played sports, used a tread mill or walked everyday but without the restriction that the sleeve provides I just couldn't budge the weight. Before I had my son I practically starved myself to keep my weight down, but once I got pregnant it was all over. I love the fact that I can eat small amounts now and I'm full, really full and I never was before. I am glad that I waited and got the sleeve instead of the bypass, I love my sleeve! -
Try not to eat too fast, that's what I was doing at first which results in a tummy ache. Probably most of us were used to eating this way and now we have to slow way down and really chew everything well. Use a smaller spoon and cut up everything really tiny I find that it helps alot.
