What's Unique About Being A 50S Sleever?
TJL replied to EileenFrances's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I guess I'm pretty much like everyone else here, I had the sleeve because I just couldn't loose the weight on my own, and I really wanted to be healthier as I get older. I was sleeved on 5/14/13, and have lost 40lbs so far. I have lots more energy, don't need as much sleep and all my blood pressure meds are gone!! I am working on getting rid of my CPAP machine, I hate it, Doc says as the weight comes off I probably won't need it anymore, they have already adjusted the pressure down twice. Hope to ditch it sooonnnn..... Good luck everyone, oh and Shellypg, the cute clothes will be a bonus!! -
Sh*t's Gettin Real Up In Here - Knocking On Twoderland's Door
TJL commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Congrats, you'll be in two hundreds any day now. We get so used to not losing weight that when we do we can't believe it. I thought it wouldn't work either, but.... it's slowly coming off so i'll just roll with it. It's funny because to me I don't look any different(but am wearing smaller size clothes!), so I guess things are right on track. Good luck can't wait to hear when you hit the 200's and then lower. Consider me a cheerleader for you! -
protein shakes..... how long?
TJL replied to Joanna Ortallono's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm almost 12 weeks out and I use them if I think I won't get in enough protein for the day. Mostly I eat real food and do pretty well with getting my protein but sometimes I don't feel like cooking and they are easy. I have several blender recipes for protein smoothies to keep things interesting. -
Bad Scale! Bad Bad Scale!
TJL commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Yes I am scale obsessed too. I way myself twice a day, but try not to freak out if it doesn't move for a couple of days. Fortunately it hasn't gone up or I probably would freak out. Haven't had any real long stalls yet and I'm hoping that they will stay away! -
You can do it, 4 weeks is a long time but you're a strong person especially if you are converting from the band to the sleeve, just remember to vary your liquads. I bought some of the unjury cheese sauce and chicken soup to give me a little variety on the 2 week liquad diet. Also get some unflavored protein to mix in with beef or vegetable broth. Sometimes just switching up your liquads, going from sweet to savory is enough to make a difference. Good luck!

Vegasneon, I'm losing about the same rate as you. I don't eat bread, pasta or rice, no sugar but then again I've always lost weight slowly. I'm happy with 40 lbs gone, it can come off slowly as long as it comes off. I eat protein and veggies for lunch and dinner, and mostly eggbeater with veggies and a little cheese for breakfast. Once a week I allow myself 2 cups of popcorn, that's my treat. Doc says I'm doing well so I'm not worried. And I was sleeved on 5/14/13. Tonight I had 1/2 cup of sugar free vanilla ice cream and it was wonderful. however it will only be an occasional treat out were it's portion controlled.

Lookin' good. Keep it up! Congrats on the weight loss.

Well, i've been fighting with a couple of pounds for the last 2 weeks. First they are gone, then they are back, I'm trying to get under 207 before I go back to see my NUT but it is slow going. It is kind of what I had expected but I got spoiled when the weight dropped so quickly in the beginning. I knew that I would lose slowly(that's just the way I am, my body fights to keep every lb!), but had hoped to lose maybe 3lbs a week. Instead I usually lose 1 0r 2 lbs a week. Not really complaining because it's better than I managed on my own, however I can admit to a certain envy when I read others postings and they are losing weight much faster and were sleeved at roughly the same time as me. I have increased my exercise but I have to be better with my food. I used to be a big vegetable eater and now with the protein first I'm just not getting as many as I should. Oh well, maybe things will start to pick up now that I've added in even more exercise (I just hope it doesn't make me hungry!)

I wouldn't. Your stomach is still healing and pickle juice is acidic. Sounds like trouble to me.

I Want To See Before & After Pics!
TJL replied to Christina760's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look fabulous! So thin! I'm happy for you. -
You look great! Don't worry, I'm a slow loser too, but at aslongas it still keeps coming off that's OK with me.
-
That's wonderful, what a great accomplishment.

You look fantastic!

Look how tiny your are! You look wonderful. Congrats!

Ok, it might not seem like much, but I weight my protein out every night at dinner.Tonight we had steak(one of my favorite cuts!), and I didn't finish my alotted 2.5 oz. This is a minor miracle as I always finish. I probably could have eaten it, but didn't want to feel uncomfortable so I put it in the fridge. I am impressed with myself, I never would have done that before my sleeve! Also my sister gave me some clothes mostly 1X's which I thought that I might fit into in a month or so but I tried them on anyways and they fit!!! And they were cotton blouses with no stretch in them. I was amazed as I can't really see a lot of difference yet, except in my neck(I now have one). So I guess even though I haven't lost a huge amount of weight yet(I'm at 38 lbs gone!), it does make a difference. Can't wait to see what happens next even though I've been on a stall for the last week.

4 days post-op: The shakes I have been drinking contain dietary fiber
TJL replied to Murphy316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that most of the protein shakes have some fiber in them but not enough to hurt us. All the ones that you listed were on the approved list given to me by my NUT, but check with your Doc, it will make you feel better. -
Just keep this as your before picture, you'll do great and rock your sleeve! Will be waiting to see your after picture. Good Luck!

Lookin' good Fiddleman!

Congrats on your weight loss, you look great. I am 53 and was sleeved on5/14/13 and have lost 38 lbs so far. Hopefully I can do as well as you. -
Congrats, glad you feel so well. Good luck to you.

I read a lot of the posts here and many people take anywhere from 12-24 months to lose all the weight that they want to. Just keep up with your efforts, I'm sure you will lose some more weight if you do.
-
I'm so happy for you! Enjoy!
-
Good job, keep it up.

At 2 weeks I was still on full liquads. Try the pureed foods and soft stuff. Tell your Doc that your still having a problem. Some people take longer to heal than others. Just take it slow, throwing ups not good for your incision.
