  1. Thanks for the well-wishes this week. I'm still really tired. They told me to be at the hospital at 6:30 for an 8:30 surgery on Monday morning. I got there at 6:17. We waited and waited and waited. It was after 5:00 PM before they took me to OR holding. I didn't have surgery until 6:00 or 7:00 pm and I didnt get to a room until nearly 10:00. I would definitely advise you to have someone stay with you at night. A lady from my Sunday school class stayed with me and if she hadn't, I don't know what I would have done. I had chest pains and they had to do an EKG and blood work in the middle of the night. I couldn't get comfortable. The catheter that I was dreading turned out to be a good thing because I wouldn't have been able to get out of bed to go to the bathroom on my own. They determined the chest pains were from too much fluid. I was nauseated and dry heaving from the minute they tried to wake me up in recovery. I had a very hard time waking up and I was trying to tell them I was hurting and nauseated. The first few days were rough. I also weighed 8 pounds more when I got home from the hospital than when I left for the hospital. But that's gone now. They told me in OR holding that had me scheduled for 7:30 that morning and they'd all been there all day waiting for Dr. Cummins to get there from the Baptist hospital.
  2. My surgery is tomorrow so I'm on clear liquids today and have to do a bowel prep. I thought Gatorade counted as a clear liquid so I drank a small one. Then I reviewed my list again and saw that it wasn't on the list. Since I'm doing a bowel prep, shouldn't it be out of my system by tomorrow? Or have I really screwed up?

    Any Teachers?

I'm not a teacher, but I work for a school system (psychometrist). I wanted to have my surgery during the summer, but I couldn't because of the stupid six month required Active Health management. I'm having my surgery Monday and I will have to take time off work, but I want to do it this year in case my insurance company decides they're not covering it next year. The surgeon gave me papers to turn in for FMLA.
  4. Dr. Cummin's pre-op diet is Breakfast: Protein shake Midmorning snack: fruit or yogurt Lunch: Protein Shake Supper: Light Entree like Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones Snack: protein shake (optional) The day before surgery you have to do a bowel prep and you can only have Clear Liquids. They told me at the hospital to drink so much Water Sunday night that I'd think my eyeballs were going to float away because the bowel prep will dehydrate you and make it hard for them to get a vein for an IV. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
  5. Preregisteration for surgery took a while, but there was nothing to it. I just had to answer a full medical history, go over instructions, and have a blood test for a pregnancy test and to get my blood typed for type and antiboties so they can have the right thing waiting if I need a transfusion. If I hadn't had an EKG already, they would have done that too. I have to be at CMMC at 6:30 Monday morning and my surgery is supposed to happen around 8:30. I hope I don't chicken out. I've come too far now! Driving home, I thought, "That sure would be good" every time I saw a restaurant--everything from IHOP to McDonald's to Bonsai. At this point I could eat anything anywhere (except seafood--allergic). SO hungry!!!!
  6. I'm going to CMMC to preregister for surgery today. I'll let you know what all that involves.

That's my surgery date too. Good luck to you!
  8. Oooo... let me into this conversation! I'm going through Transformations and my doctor is Erin Cummins. My surgery is MONDAY. I initially went to a introductory class in February and then I had to do the Active Health stuff too (I'm also BCBS State of MS). I'm have to have my surgery at Central MS Medical Center for BCBS to pay for it. I'd rather have it at River Oaks, but I don't have that option.
  9. I'm a week and a half into my pre-op diet and today I pooped in my pants. I had no warning, no gas, no cramps, nothing. It just came out. Has anyone else had this problem pre-op and is this what I can expect post-op? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Dumping syndrome

They keep telling us at our center that you don't get dumping syndrome with the sleeve. I'm surprised to hear that you've having it and it's making me hesitant about my surgery next Monday.
  11. I'm a little over two weeks from my surgery date and I'm reading a lot of stories about people in pain. How bad was your pain? How bad was the post-surgery diet? Is your weight loss worth what you've gone through to get to it? Would you do it all over again if you had the chance?

    Seven Days Post Op

http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/ I've only tried the chocolate Splendor and it mixed up TERRIBLY. My drink was half clumps so I'm not a big fan of unjury based on my experience, but this is where you can order it.
  13. When you get back home, do you need someone to stay with you after you've had the surgery? I don't really have much of a support system and I think I'll be on my own after I get driven home after the surgery.

I'm a psychometrist. I do psychological testing for a school system for special ed and gifted students. My surgery is going to be 9-23 in Jackson, MS.
  16. I take it to mean you might soil your pants when you fart. I've read it many times on this forum from people who have had the surgery.
  17. My date got moved to the 23rd. I keep having pleasant dreams about being in the hospital. I don't know if it's an omen or wishful thinking. But then when I'm awake, I worry about things. For instance, when I woke up from my gall bladder surgery I couldn't breathe and I'm afraid the same thing will happen with this surgery. I'm scared of the surgery and the lifestyle changes like, "never trust a fart" which I've read here several times. I'm going through all the steps to get there, but I keep telling myself I can change my mind up to the day of the surgery.
  18. I've been reading lots of topics on this forum, but would like to ask how you overcame your fear of surgery if you were afraid? I got approval from my insurance company and my BRAIN tells me that having surgery is the thing to do. But I'm really afraid of the surgery itself. I'm afraid of having a catheter. I'm afraid of the pain post-op. I'm really afraid of the procedure itself much moreso than the lifestyle changes that come with it.
  19. It's just what they do. I already asked about it. I don't see a point to it either.
  20. I'm trying to learn everything I can. So, how soon can you take a shower after surgery?

    Eeep i have my date!

    That's great news for you!
  22. I heard from my insurance company today and she told me my tentative date is September 9 also! There are several of us with that date. My brain tells me this is the right thing to do. But I'm also a great big chicken. I haven't had the pre-op class yet to really know what to expect.
  23. I just got a call from my insurance company (Blue Cross/Blue Shield/State of MS) that I'm approved to have surgery in September! I'm freaking out. I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm scared of surgery, but I'm scared of not having surgery and gaining more weight too. I told myself that if I got approved I'd have the surgery, but I'm afraid of things like PAIN. I've read some bad experiences on here that have made me question it even though it seems like most people have good experiences.
