  1. I won't miss My faulty internal thermostat that had me waking up in a sweat nightly and keeping the house temp low enough to freeze everyone else! Or my back spasms from carrying so much of me! Or the rubber band I used to use to "help" button my pants before finally giving in to the inevitable larger size! Or my CPAP machine!

    Anyone living in Las Vegas

I also live in Vegas - since '97. Sleeved 5/17/13 by Dr. Lyass and currently down 47 pounds!
  3. Bottom line - only you can answer whether or not you are taking this seriously enough. I asked myself numerous times if I was. Looking back, I think it was a kind of temperature check. Was I understanding the risks sufficiently? Was I understanding that it might not work for me? Was I doing it for the right reasons? Was I "worthy" of insurance approval as I was a lightweight? I kept checking on my motivation for months - even while waiting to be taken back to the OR. I wanted to make sure I would have no regrets. - and I don't. Regardless of whether or not I am ultimately successful long term I am happy that I did this.

    AT LAST! Under 200!

    That's great! Congrats!!
  6. Congratulations on making such positive changes in your life! I think you should give yourself a pat on the back!
  7. Back in 1995, I had been on Weight Watchers for 10 months and lost 40 pounds. I was so proud of myself! I went to see my doctor who promptly told me I had lost too much weight (5'6" and 167 pounds). He then went on to say, "You need to remember you are not a young girl anymore" (I was under 40). It was at that time I became conflicted and less self confident (my issues, not his advise). It felt as though I had permission to gain weight and I certainly did. It was also; however, my LAST visit with that doctor!! Fast forward 18 years later and I am at 176. I can't wait to surpass 167 again and toast my success with a new pair of boots!
  8. I took two weeks off. That allowed me to go back to work on pureed foods instead of full liquids. I took it really easy and rested a lot. I noticed my energy levels were still a bit low the first week back though. It took another week before I felt up to speed again.
  9. Every one of these photos is inspirational! This is one of the very best things about this support site!

    does everybody lose hair?

I'm 12 weeks out and noticing more hair on my brush. BUT I am also noticing that I am a size 14 instead of a size 1X. It could be that I am just looking for it - but if its going to happen, its just going to happen. My mom lost ALL of her hair during chemotherapy, including her eyebrows - and STILL had to shave her legs! So I know it could always be worse!
  11. I was sleeved as an outpatient at a surgical center. For me that meant a 23 hour stay from a Friday to Saturday. There were only four of us in the surgical bay and there was a TV on low, but we all pretty much just slept except for getting in some water and walking to the bathroom. The nurses were quiet and considerate and I felt well taken care of. I don't think I received less care than I would have as an inpatient. I felt okay to go home Saturday morning too. My husband took Friday and Monday off and my grandsons were home Wednesday and Thursday so I had folks there in case I needed anything. By the time I was by myself I was comfortable enough I felt I could drive if I needed to. It was a good experience for me and I hope that sharing this will help you in finding your comfort level.
  12. I was thin as a child and young adult. I always thought of myself as a thin person. I gained an extra 10 pounds in my pregnancy - but still thought I looked good. I went to work and gained 10 pounds per year - but still felt okay. I started having back problems - but that was from working at a desk all day. I was really good at avoiding the truth. My son was visiting over Christmas and posted a family photo. That was a moment of clarity and my reality check. I looked every bit as overweight as I was - 80 pounds worth. I saw a photo of a former co-worker who 'd had lap band and lost 110 pounds. I decided to look into it and went to an informational seminar. When I learned about the sleeve, I went for it and never looked back. That was another moment of clarity and became my mission. I still think of myself as a thin person. The only difference is that now I am working on it being a reality instead of a memory.

    Wearing clothes...

I have lost about 40% of my excess weight so I am at a lower size than I started, but not yet where I am going to end up. So, for now, I am purchasing sale items as they are temporary. I am still amazed at how GOOD they look, even for temporary fashions. It is yet another motivator to help me get to goal and another new wardrobe!
  14. The Mynetdiary app will also let you email a weekly report to yourself that has all of your food diary information for your nut. :-)

    Constipation

TMI warning! I had the same problem. I took Milk of Magnesia. When hat wasn't enough, I used A Fleets enema. After fighting it for a month this way, I now take three stool softener a a day - one in the morning and two at night. In addition, I take two Fiberwell Gummies. Each Gummie has 5 grams of fiber. It is what finally worked for me.
  16. I use mynetdiary. It has a website, iPhone, iPad and Android apps. It counts calories, carbs, protein, sodium, fat etc. it also tracks weight and exercise. I don't know about the Android app, but iPhone and iPad also have a bar code scanner which I really like. You can also enter custom foods. I'm pretty happy with it and have been using it for two months.
  17. I have been out several times and always found something I could eat and concentrate on Protein. I will split a meal with my husband sometimes or order an appetizer. I don't hesitate to ask for something to be cooked differently and let them know I have had WLS as the reason. I have always found that the restaurant staff are accommodating. I have even asked them to strain soup for me (back when I was on liquids). I track everything too so I know what the protein and carb levels are. I am going to Hawaii Saturday for a week and will be loading up the protein with fresh fish. Nope, no problem with restaurants at all.

    Buyers remorse anyone?

Two months out the word that comes to mind is "stunned". I was stunned that I was able to get approved. I was stunned that I got through the months of testing. I was stunned at I really got sleeved. Not a "what did I do" feeling, more like a "I can't believe I actually did this!" Kind of feeling. Talk about a turning point! Today - I am very content with my choice. I concentrate on tackling today and tomorrow with longer-range goals of longer life, better mobility as the ultimate prize. I WANT to be thinner and healthy. I can give up over-eating, grazing and bad food choices today. I can plan for tomorrow so I have what I need to make the day successful. Today I have lost 30 pounds - and I'm not done yet. No Regrets. Not One.

Experience with BCBS NJ and the Sleeve?

I have Horizon BCBS of NJ through my employer and it was covered.
  23. I have been up front about my surgery. I only had one person say that they thought I didn't need it, and a brief explanation of my medical issues swung them into my "support" group. Now folks tell me how much my weight loss shows and ask me how much I've lost which feels really good. AND, two people are considering the surgery! This isn't the answer for everyone, but was for me. Best of luck in whatever you choose to tell people.
