  1. Someone would ask, "does it feel (hot/cold) in here to you?" I would say, "I'm not the one to ask. I'm always hot." Now I keep a sweater at work, a heating pad on the bed, have an obsession with buying jackets and dream of living in Hawaii! I want to be warm!!!!

  3. I really worried about this too. My PCP always asks how things are going. I told him about my WLS seminar and my interest in it. He did some probing, wanting to know why I wanted it and how strongly. He then went through my medical record to review whether or not I met co-morbidities. I admitted that I was going through the testing process and didn't want to get my hopes up in case I wasn't approved. Believe it or not, he was sympathetic and supportive. He asked for copies of all my records from the surgeons office so he could be informed of what I was doing and what the findings were. Fast forward 6 months later to my next appointment and I had lost almost 70 pounds. He was thrilled! He cut my cholesterol med in half and took me off CPAP. I'm glad I gave him the opportunity to support me.
  4. I just turned 57. I was sleeved last May and can honestly say it was the best thing I could ever have done. I feel that I have gifted myself another 20 or 30 years that I would not have had otherwise. I not only had trouble losing weight previously, my regain was very fast. Post surgery I am down 75 pounds and feeling great! Best of luck to you in whatever decision you make.

    How often do you weigh?

I do the same, although I have slacked off on the spreadsheet.
  6. Go for it! My goal was 145. That was 10 pounds more than I weighed the day I got married. I'm now at 142 and thinking.....about 135. Will I look unhealthy? Maybe to those people who were "comfortable" seeing me fat!
  7. I like tracking and have since my old Weight Watcher days. I started on MFP, but didn't like it, though I know a lot of people do. I tried other apps, and ended up using MND, synced with my Fitbit and Aria scale. I really only pay attention to three things - protein, water and calories. Protein first, then water and calories tie for second. I will note the carbs and try to keep them below the protein each day. Most everything else is turned off. It is a good working combination for me, but my daughter is very successful just tracking in her head. Maybe I'm just more gadget-oriented, LOL!

    Best and worst "compliments"

My son, who hasn't seen me since July, informed me that I look like an entirely different person! I sure feel that way so it's great to have my "outside" reflect my "inside"!!

    Didn't work for me.

I wonder if your stomach acid is being adequately controlled with Prilosec. Just a thought.
  10. The fact that you started early means you're ready to own this. Now you have a greater opportunity to surpass expectations and exceed the goal set. Be proud of yourself!

    Best and worst "compliments"

From a man I work with this week: "So, you've lost some weight" Me: "I have" Him: "did you do that voluntarily?" Uh, WHAT?!
  12. I think I'm at my final weight although some things are starting to feel loose again. I'm working on my wardrobe but I'm always working on that. LOL! I sympathize about having to find three seasons of outfits in two weeks. :/.
  13. I so relate to this! I went from a 1X (or XL in certain cuts) to a 10 in five months. I could buy a pair of pants, wear them once or twice and the next time I wore them they would be too big and baggy. This was after loosing one size in the first two months. It really is an ongoing adjustment.
  14. I had six - one of which was for my hiatal hernia repair.

Like all those (more Kim Harrison than Laurel K. Hamilton fan though). A good teenage series would be the Dragonriders of Pern series by the late Ann McCaffrey. Lived those books!
  18. "Ok....so I have a different approach that really worked for me and I'd like to share. Yes this approach evolved over time but it made sense to me and I don't think it gets much voice around here. I abstained during my weight loss. I had to, I have too many trigger foods and can be lead down that bingeful path too easily. But once I got to goal, I slowly lessened the reigns a bit to allow a few treats here and there. And not all of those were pure crap foods. I now enjoy sweet potato fries a couple times a month (as an example)....one of my all time favorites. But I stayed away from them during my weight loss. Now when I want something, I will try to add it into my diet. If it crashes my nutritional goals or causes me cravings that I can't control, I scratch it off the list and don't try it again. My point is you can be strict, without thinking it has to be forever. Letting go of that "all or nothing forever" mentality is liberating." I am approaching goal and thinking a lot about maintenance at this point. I have the same approach to my weight loss phase and like the maintenance philosophy you are using so will be adopting that once I get there. Thanks for sharing Butter!

My six month post-op appointment is tomorrow. Hmmm, whatever shall I wear? The watch is out. Now to weigh my shoes......
  20. My surgeons office recommended loose sweat pants, an oversized button up shirt and slip on shoes - and to bring a pillow for the car ride home to protect the incisions from the seat belt.
  21. My coordinator put in an expected surgery date when she submitted to my insurance. However there was some back and forth questions and my actual date ended up being later, based in when the actual approval came in.

    Out On The Table

I'm curious about this too. My surgeons staff did tell me this calling it a metabolic reset. They were talking about lowering of insulin requirements for diabetic patients.
  23. Yes my fair sin city boasts a lot of different restaurants and that is one. I've never been there though and that won't change.
