  1. YES! it does get better, and what you are feeling is totally normal. The first month after surgery just sucks, but after that it does start to get better. I do still have times when i wish i didn't have the sleeve so i could pig out on pizza and pop, but then that's what got me in this mess in the first place! Hang in there and it will get better, i promise!

    Thinking about going vegan

there are plenty of plant sources for Protein, so that wouldn't be a problem. As long as you get adequate nutrition, i don't see the big deal. if you do decide to do it you might want to talk with your nut about it, as they might be able to give you some ideas for getting in the adequate amounts. Do whatever you think will be best for you. My stomach wont tolerate meat of any form right now, so i'm eating a lot of Beans, and nuts and quinoa etc... Good luck! As for it being dead, plants are dead when you eat them as well and if they are not, you are eating a living being lol.

    no hunger at all

I'd say it's a good thing! It will help you get through the liquid diet with a bit less misery. Good luck and keep us posted!
  4. It depends on who you are trying to lie to. If it's insurance, it wont work because they will need documentation of everything. If it's a doctor, again, they may also want documentation. Anyone could say " oh yeah i've been working with a dietician for 3 years and have had minimal weight loss" but without documentation to back it up there is no proof of it.

    Dehydration?

the biggest sign will be that your urine will be very dark in color. Don't mess with getting dehydrated, it's not fun and as others have said can put you can put you back in the hospital. It will also slow your healing process. You just have to force yourself to sip water all day. I've also gotten some of the Mio drops to flavor the water, and Kool Aid has come out with some as well, 0 calories, but it tastes great and really helps get the water down when you don't think you can stand another drop of just plain water. I know it's hard with no appetite or real desire for food and drink but you have to make yourself do it. You did this surgery for your health, now you have to make yourself eat for your health. Stay strong and hang in there!
  6. my hubby didn't lose anything the first week and a half, and then he slowly started to lose a few lbs, then Whoosh! he is 6 months out now and down 87lbs! Your body is recovering from a major surgery that has altered it's natural state of being. It's got to take stock of what happened, and how best to go about doing it's thing with this new stomach. As long as you do what you are supposed to be doing, the weight will start to fall off, just give your body a chance and remember, everybody loses differently. Hang in there!
  7. aside from upping your calories and exercise, there really isn't much you can do. Hang in there, it will get better!

    Occasional dessert

having a little dessert every so often isn't going to hurt you. It can help in a way, by keeping the cravings for it at bay. i do'nt worry about little splurges every no and then, i'm human, sometimes i really really really want pizza. So i have 1 small slice, and i'm satisfied, don't need anymore, want it, sure, but i can push that aside easy.

    Addict over the edge

the most important thing is that you know there is a problem. We all make mistakes and slip up in our eating. Don't beat yourself up to much about it though, that wont help anything. conquering our previous food issues is no easy or simple feat, you have made amazing progress! Tomorrow is a new day, don't let the mistakes of today drag you down tomorrow. Also think, that you may have eaten "a lot" today, but compared to what you would have eaten in a day before surgery, you hardly ate anything. Try using Myfitnesspal to help keep track of your foods It really helps me stay on target. You are doing great, and you will succeed! Hang in there!!

    I dont understand...

I've had a similar thing happen, but I've narrowed it down to that my stomach isn't liking any form a meat right now. So since i've avoided meat, i can eat more. I hope it's only temporary, but only time will tell.
  11. you should be able to continue the smoothies, once you progress to full liquids, but should probably add some unflavored protein powder to them. You do have a chance to lose all the weight you want, you have to remember that the Sleeve is a tool not a cure. It will help you but it's still up to you to make healthy choices. and yes, everyone does protein shakes, and no they generally aren't very tasty. It sounds like you should attend a seminar on weight loss surgery offered at your hospital or at least make an appointment to speak with a surgeon who can answer all of your questions, and help decide if this is right for you. Good luck!

    bread

possibly because it will expand in your stomach and cause discomfort. my doc recommended no bread until 3 months out simply because of the expansion and discomfort issue.

    Confused?

most people at the 2 week marker are still on full liquids, but every doctor is different. For soft foods try scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, soups, canned tuna, string cheese, other soft cheeses etc... Just take it very slowly, and you'll be just fine!

    Fruit, fruit ,fruit!

Ever since i was sleeved 6 weeks ago all i crave or want to eat is fruit. All kinds of fruit, melon, berries, peaches, grapes, apples.... All other food just sounds blah to me. If i do eat a few bites, it sits just fine and i have no problems with that. Just wondering if this is trying to tell me something that I'm really lacking in my diet, or if it's just simply i want fruit. Any ideas?

    Dizzy/Lightheaded?

could be low blood sugar. That can make you feel dizzy/ lightheaded especially when bending or standing up.

    LIQUID TIRED

i would do soups, soft meats like tuna, canned chicken, eggs, and cheese. Potatoes are fine if you add some unflavored protein to them, and maybe a little cheese. Just take it slow, eating solid food for the first time feel very strange on your stomach.

    WATERMELON!?

I love love love and have eaten Watermelon, and had no issues. It's mostly water so it breaks down to pretty much nothing. I used it in smoothies and add the unflavored protein powder during my full liquid stage, and even now. As far as the sugar, it's natural sugar, and my nut said that natural sugar, as occurs in fruit and other foods, and honey is fine to eat as much of as you want. Just avoid the refined and processed stuff like the plague.
  20. I'm a little over 6 weeks post op and have been eating soft solids for 3 weeks per Doc instruction. Things have been going just fine, no problems eating ( when i remember to eat slow enough ). The past week however, things have not been sitting well. I was nauseous for several days and didn't want to eat a thing, but forced myself to eat small amounts. Solid foods are not sitting well with me at all. I have been under a great deal of stress the past week and was wondering if it could be stress related? I've decided to go back to liquids and soups for a little while until my stomach feels better as those things seem to sit just fine. Has anyone else had something similar happen?

    At the hospital

Good luck! It'll be a breeze and you'll be home before you know it! Let us know how it goes!!
  22. So i finally ended my first stall. It lasted about 3 weeks, which i hear is pretty normal, but boy were those 3 weeks frustrating! I was convinced i wasn't going to lose anymore weight, even though common sense told me otherwise. But this morning i decided to try on my pre-pregnancy pants (my son is 6), and they FIT! just a tad snug in the waist but omg! I'm soo happy! This was my first mini goal, and i can't believe I've reached it! I couldn't be happier today!!
  23. magpie30

    Very nice NSV today

just hang in there, it will end, and you'll continue to drop lbs. I hope it ends very soon for you!

    Help. I cheated

I didn't have a pre op diet and the night before my surgery i had pizza. kind of as a last chance thing. Don't stress about it, forgive yourself and just stick to what you are supposed to do now, everything will be fine!
  25. yeah totally normal, i had the same thing at 3 weeks out. My doc said that it can also be because of bending to much, basically just irritating the area. I still get pain there to a much lesser degree if i do a lot of bending over.
