  1. just walk, walk , walk as much as you can and keep sipping the water. The first week or so you probably wont get in the recommended amount of protein and water, but get in as much as you can. The first week i averaged 20 grams of protein and about 20 oz of water. As time passed and your stomach heals and the swelling does down you will be able to get it all in. Oh, take chap stick, you'll want it!! Good luck to you, it will be just fine!!

    Air Bubbles

could be you are going to fast. try slowing it down a bit to see if that helps. I had to set a timer for a long time to help me eat slow enough. 2-3 min between bites/ drinks was what worked for me.
  4. Each doctor goes by what they think will give you the best chance to heal with out extra complications. However, just like everybody's body is different some people can tolerate soft pureed foods sooner, while others cannot. You doctor recommends what he/she thinks is the best way to go about it. For me, i was only on clear liquids while in the hospital. as soon as i was home i was allowed full liquids which included things like yogurt and cottage cheese. At the 3 week mark i was allowed soft solids like eggs, tuna, canned chicken, cheese etc. I think you could be just fine with full liquids at this point. but be sure to take it slow. you don't want to cause a leak!

    weight loss first month

My first month i lost 24 lbs. Each person is different in their weight loss, and 15 lbs in a month in nothing to laugh at. Think, whens the last time you lost 15lbs in a month? My doc told my hubby, who had his sleeve 5 months before i did, that some people drop all their weight the first 6 months, while other are still losing 2 years later. So there really is no "normal". Just what's "normal" for you. You are doing great! Just remember, the slower you lose it, the less lose skin you will have to contend with!

    Ninteen more lbs

Sweet! Congratulations and keep up the awesome work!!
  7. That's pretty awesome! I should think that if you are getting in all your protein, water etc. that there shouldn't be an issue. But as always listen to the Doc.

Day 3 of my new life

Congrats on your successful surgery! My husband was sleeved in October 2012 and then i got mine in March, it's been an amazing journey and we've really been able to help each other out and keep the other on track. It's a great partnership. My only advice is to make sure ( once you are at the soft food stage) to chew very well and eat slowly!! At 2 months out i still have trouble with this from time to time, like today. I ate to fast and threw it up. Doesn't happen as much now but it still does. So my best advice to you both is to eat S-l-o-w!!! Oh and don't let yourself get dehydrated, trust me, it's not fun!!
  9. Congratulations!! It's a difficult and painful process but oh so worth it!! Let us know how the surgery goes!
  10. oh yes, i remember the first few weeks post op. Just miserable....I didn't dream about food but that is not uncommon. Hold out until your doc oks for solid food, it is hard to digest at first and makes your tummy feel really weird. Hang in there, you can do it!!!!

How much protien 5 days out?

I was allowed scrambled eggs at 3 weeks, when i started soft solids. And cottage cheese was allowed for me during the full liquid stage. My Nut also said that cream of wheat, or cocoa wheats are fine for full liquid stage as well. I just added some unflavored Protein powder, or you could add vanilla or chocolate to them as well. for a few weeks i could only eat about half an egg, and that was taking it slowly. At 2 weeks out my Nut also told me i could have some mashed potatoes with some Protein Powder added and a little shredded cheese.
  12. I'm 2 months out and typically i eat around 650 calories a day. i've had stalls but nothing major. With any rapid weight loss you are going to have stalls, and they can last from a few days to a month, and are perfectly normal and will end. I don't think that this early out you have enough room in your tummy to eat 1000 calories. MY doc and NUT told me not to even think about caloric intake until 5 or 6 months out, just focus on getting in your water and protein, those are the most important things.
  13. nope, the only thing i got was liquid pain med. They stopped the shots when i left the hospital. You should be walking quite regularly once home so blood clot medication generally isn't needed unless you are a special case. but i've not heard of anyone having to do it after being home from hospital.

    New Here

the things i was eating the most at 3+ weeks out was tuna salad, and canned chicken salad. They are very soft and moist and are generally well tolerated. baked fish is also a good one, or shrimp. black bean soup was another staple for me, i'd add in a little unflavored protein powder as well just to help supplement. You do need to add the meats back in to help get your protein ( unless you're vegetarian). Just start small, take one small bite of tuna, and wait 4 or 5 min. then try another. and chew it up really really well, this helps tons! Good luck to you!!

    Hard getting water down?

try adding some mio drops, or kool aid now makes the same type thing, only sugar free, and it actually tastes like kool aide. I had trouble with just plain water for a while, but adding some flavor to it made a huge difference! Another thing i did was to buy popsicle molds, and just fill them with water, and that helped big time in getting my water in. Good luck!!

    Questions

I did that after my gallbladder surgery. I didn't even think about the fact i had taken two Tylenol 3's and took my son to my parents house for a visit ( they live about 20 miles from us). Wow that was strange. Even though i could see on the speedometer that i was going 55 it felt and looked like the outside was just barely crawling by, like it was in slow motion. Very crazy. It was then i realized "oh crap! i shouldn't be driving!' but i was nearly to my parents house by then. It was an interesting experience, but one i don't recommend!!!
  18. went for a nice bike ride today, was glorious, but now my butt hurts lol!

    Thrush?!? Ughhh

I wouldn't say Thrush just yet, for a few weeks after surgery my tongue was nasty white too, no matter how much i brushed it. I did call my doctor and she said that can happen after surgery, it's nothing to worry about and will go away after a few weeks. But if you are really unsure, see your doctor.

    Itching like crazy!

maybe it's just dry skin? have you tried a heavy lotion like cocoa butter etc?? you could also try a scrub of sugar and olive oil, will help exfoliate the skin, and moisturize it... Hmmm i'm not sure, but if it doesn't get better in a week or so you might wanna see your doctor, maybe they can help.
  21. Ugh, that sucks. I'm sorry your having such a hard time. I know by about 3 weeks i couldn't handle another protein shake, the very thought of one made me wanna gag. What about things like yogurt, or pudding? There are some recipes for protein pudding on this site that are actually pretty tasty. Popsicles were another way i got in my liquids. I bought a Popsicle mold and just filled them with water, and sucked it down that way. helped a lot. unflavored protein powder in mashed potatoes is another thing i did a lot of, sprinkle a little cheese on top and it was pretty good. I hope they figure out whats going on and that you get the extra time off. I know i didn't fully have my energy back till after the 6 week mark. it was better by a lot, but still not back to normal. Good luck to you!!!
  22. Are you actually having these symptoms, or is that just what you told them to get the extended leave? Not being judgmental, just wasn't sure the way you wrote it, so wanted to clarify. If you really are having those symptoms, you do need to be seen ASAP!
  23. Oh hun, i'm so sorry things are being difficult for you right now. The first month is a b**ch! But you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself!! I know how hard it is to see the light at the end of the seemingly endless tunnel, but, speaking from experience, it is there, and you will reach it, and it really will get better. But, that doesn't do much to help you right now. Just try to take it one day at a time, or even one "meal" at a time. The head hunger will start to get better and everything will eventually settle down and you will remember again why you did this. Hang in there, we are all here for you and cheering you on!! P.S could the pain be your gallbladder? I had mine removed prior to surgery, because i was having awful attacks, worst pain ever, manic kind of pain. It was my gallbladder. I was going to wait and have them take it out during the sleeve, but it was giving me to much trouble so i had it done earlier.

How much protien 5 days out?

that is about the same amount i was getting in the first week. One thing that i found helped that my NUT recommended was alternating days. One day focus on getting all your water, and whatever protein you can get in is great, then the next day focus on getting all your protein, and make water the secondary goal. That helped me a lot the first month, when getting in enough of both was just seemingly impossible. Good luck!!!

    Laying flat to sleep

I slept in a recliner for the first week and a half. Laying down was just to uncomfortable. It was sooo nice though once i could finally sleep in bed!! You'll probably just have to try and see, since everyone is different. Good luck and i hope you can sleep in bed straight away!!!
