I'll also tell more people after I've lost the weight. I don't need the pressure, or people constantly asking how much I've lost.....I'm especially glad during my current stall!

Just wanted to say I have chosen not to repost my pic because I received some unwanted sexually suggestive PM's when my pic was posted. I did not take take down my pic due to a privacy issue. IMHO you can never know someone's motivation unless they share it with you.

Thanks for everyone responding. I have upped my protien to 4oz at meals and it seems to help. Im not purging anymore. Ive decided that I really dont want that life back again. I have found an eating disorder counselor that is inexpensive. Thank you all for your support.

I'm glad you are looking online to seek some assistance. Sometimes it doesn't take much, and the fact that you are concerned enough to do something is good. Just keep looking till you find someone.
You know, you tried to eat 900 calories because you wanted to increase to attempt to lose. But when you purge, you obviously are not getting those calories, which is defeating the purpose, and you are still stalled. Do you think you could just decide to not throw up for a few days, see how you feel?
Another observation....even though you've been stuck for 6 weeks, you still have lost a lot of weight in a short time. You can only lose so fast. It seems like if we can lose 25 pounds in one month by eating so little, it should happen every month if we keep doing the same thing, but it does not work that way. If we lose 2-3 pounds a week, on average over a period of time, we are doing great. You said you are not quite 5 months out, so that puts you at an average of over 10 pounds a month, which is more than 2 pounds a week. Sometimes it's all in our expectations. Best of luck to you.

Have you been tracking what you're eating? And I mean every bite, every sip? You may be eating more calories than you think. Until you know what you are consuming, you can't say you've tried everything and followed the plan to a "t". Try logging a few typical days of your food/drink intake on MyFitnessPal and then complete an honest assessment of how closely that follows your post-op plan.
Pita chips and fruit are all carb so I see why you are vomiting it back up (guilt and punishment for going off-track?). VOMITING is what you should call it. Purging makes it sound nice and sanitary, and something possibly beneficial, even!
    NOT!!!
You are on the road to a possibly fatal self-inflicted illness that can be treated and controlled if you address it now. Don't let it take over your life. You did this surgery to GAIN control of your eating and health. I know you can do it!
There must be support available to you through community resources, social support networks or other avenues where you are not on the hook for hundreds of $/hr for counselling. You have to FIND those resources.
Enable yourself. You obviously want to, or you would not have gone to the trouble of creating a new account to post this cry for help. YOU have the power to help yourself, you're just looking for "a hand up".
We can give you the motivation to change and seek that help, but only YOU can follow through with the steps.
Use the web to research where you can find the help in your area. There is support out there to help you succeed.

Sounds like you need to address the mental aspect of why your purging and why your going to that extreme. Control issue? Insecurity? past trauma? Any hospital will have mental health services social workers or clinician you can seek out even if you need to go through the ER. They can't refuse you treatment if you don't have the cash. Best of luck

My cousin wants to have the sleeve like I did but her mentality is all wrong. She is only like 40-50 lbs overweight and she thinks once (and if) she is approved, that she will have the surgery within a week. She doesn't understand all you have to do to prepare mentally and research it. I think this would make someone regret it if they did not fully educate themselves on what to expect and see it as a quick fix. Clearly, it is not easy to lose weight even with surgery. I'm 5 weeks post op with absolutely no regrets!! I made the right choice.

I'm an info hoarder too -- I waited MANY years to pursue WLS until the VSG "clicked" as The One for me. So I'm also a researcher and did a lot of background studying for a long time. That said, the answers to the questions you posted above are NOT obvious and are not the same for all people, surgeons, countries.
    - I'm one week post-op and my doctor says liquids only. Can I have bread yet?
The answer to that in my case would have been..."liquids only"?? There is no such thing. Of course you should eat bread!
    - I'm 6 days post op. can I get wasted on vodka yet?
Alcohol wasn't expressly forbidden at all, though it was suggested to keep it a minimum for the first six months. But yeah, vodka in quantity on day six should be a fairly obvious NO. LOL.
    - I don't really have to exercise do I?
No, you don't. Not at all. It's a good idea and good for your health -- but not required for weight loss.
    - why am I hungry? I thought they cut the hunger out of my stomach!
I never lost my hunger either, despite being aware of the ghrelin gland thing. So I get why people ask about this one. There are enough people uninterested in food entirely, that when you're still hungry, you feel like u r doin it rong...
    - I can only hold down crystal light and haven't had anything else for three days! What should I do? (Obvious answer- ask your doctor, not an Internet forum)
LOL. Agree. But it doesn't hurt to also ask the internet forum cos you will never find a critical mass of your people in real life as you will here!!
    :-)

The problem is that different doctors say different things. People also have different hormonal reactions after surgery that no one talks about. Doctors do say that you will not feel ANY hunger, and "research" can leave you more confused than before. Also, some docs let people have puréed or soft foods on day 1!
Just because you did research and don't regret the surgery does not mean that those that regret it are just stupid or didn't read into it. I don't know how I feel about the surgery 7 weeks out. Some of the things the doctor told me just weren't true. I'm doing exactly what she said and haven't lost weight at the rate she promised. I did not have any co-morbidities, so sometimes I wonder if I could have done the same on my own. I also have small children, and the lack of energy makes me feel like a bad mom.
And yes, I did TONS of research. I've worked as a researcher, and I'm about to start my counseling internship, so all I DO is research. But it's almost like marriage, you don't know what it's really like until you're in it. You can't research how it will "feel". And some of you are a LOT older. Facing 30-40 more years or life with a reduced stomach, and having been unhealthy for SO long might feel different from facing 70 years with a reduced stomach after 5-15 years of being an overweight adult.

Finally hit 30lb loss!! Lowering my carbs to 30 and stopping the Protein Bars have done the trick for me....so happy...was sleeved 3/8/13, went through a 4wk long stall, now losing a lb per day. Thank You God !!!! The stall had me so discouraged that I thought I was the only person alive that the sleeve wouldn't work for...now, so happy with it...

BuriedBombshell reacted to KristieAtkinson in One year later, here I am.
5-18-13 & it had been exactly one year since I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. At my highest weight, I was 358, at the start of my pre-op diet, I was 338, on the day of surgery, I was 288. Today, I'm 193 pounds. (I'm 5'7) From a size 30 jeans, 30/32 tops to a MD top, & size 12 jeans. May 28th I will have my corset Trunkplasty to remove my excess stomach skin. My surgeon estimated 15-18 pounds of skin & from a 12 to an 8. Mentally, I struggle everyday because I feel like I should be smaller. But I've been exercising HARD since my 6 month pre-op diet, following my surgeons plan to a T. Not much else I could've done. I just have to love myself & where I am, but I'm going to keep on pushing towards my goal!

I am 11 days post-op and don't have any regrets. But I woke up last night and was like OMG!!! I'm missing more than 70% of my stomach what the hell did I do!!! I have gotten my diabetes under control and am not taking any other meds at this point. I just wish I would've done it sooner. The only thing I'm hoping is that I will be a good loser - not fast not slow - just lose :-)
