Adjusting to a new body

Marissa, while it's totally normal I think it's great to get counseling to help get your head to a more healthly place. Congrats on the weight loss. Shel in Kansas
Sleeved 5/21/13

    Bowling

How soon after surgery can I go bowling? I'm three weeks post op. I remember being told not to lift more than 15 pounds (I don't use a 15 ball) but don't remember for what timeframe. My incisions have healed and I don't have any pain. I've gone through all material and didn't find anything helpful. My next post op visit is in a month and a half. Obviously I can call my surgeon but wanted to see what you all think. BTW...I'm exercising for 45 minutes a day without issue.

    Side Sleeper

I was able to sleep on my side right away. I put a big pillow behind my back and one between my knees so I was well supported. Shel in Kansas
Sleeved 5/21/13

  8. Ice and you might try good quality fish oil...over time it can reduce inflammation. Clear it with your doc first. Shel in Kansas
Sleeved 5/21/13

  13. Yes, it's difficult, but worth it. My pre-op door consisted of four lowfat, low carb protein shakes a day. I followed it exactly and currently am three weeks post-op. I had no complications, very little pain. I was exercising 30 minutes a day starting day 3. I could drink all my water and get in all my protein since day 2. Some folk's have had nicks to other organ's while the docs wrestle with their oversized liver. Some had to go from laproscopic to open surgery. If you can't handle two weeks, how will you handle life after surgery? Believe me...you CAN do the pre-op without cheating! Take it one day at a time and keep as busy as possible to help pass the time. Do fun (non food) things. Exercise so you are as strong as you can be going into the surgery. I wish you the very best of luck.

    Antacids & tummy pain

I used Prevacid until my insurance stopped paying for. Omprezole is a generic PPI in the same class as Prevacid and works for me. I take 40 mg each morning (as directed by my doc). Need to wait a half hour after taking before eating.

    Ignore user?

You HAD to go there. Haven't suffered much in the way of cravings, but damn that sounds good. I'm 3 weeks, I can have popcorn with real salted butter, right?

question for foodies at least months post op

    Foodie question

Carby foods like bread, Pasta and rice tends to expand in your stomach which is why we're told to avoid them in the beginning. Down the road, whole grain pancakes and waffles may be fine in small proportions (with low calorie syrup/topping of course). :-) Shel - Olathe, KS

    Anyone feel amazing post op?

I'm two weeks post op and have an amazingly easy recovery thus far. No nausea or vomiting since day two. Have been able to use my elliptical since day three (sprained my ankle the week before surgery so hurt less than walking). Hubby says I'm more energic than before surgery. No food issues, but I do have restriction. Surgeon's office actually cleared me to have eggs/deli meat a few days early. My incision sites are a bit sore, but not bad at all (ankle gives me far more trouble). Could sleep on my side from day two. Only issue was a slight reaction to the tape the used for bandaging after the removed my staples (which was no big deal). Took off those bandage and put a little antibacterial ointment on the sites of the reactions and those are healing nicely. Shel - Olathe, KS
