My Primary Doctor was PISSED
ShelPrice replied to pumpkin07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My PCP was all for it. He'd seen my constant struggle with gaining, losing, then regaining. Might help to have you surgeon send your PCP information on what to expect with the sleeve. Medical advances happen so quickly it's hard for non-specialists to stay on top of everything. If that doesn't help maybe you can get a referral to a more supportive doctor. You need to be comfortable going to you doctor. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13 -
I've been on a CPAP for several years and still hate it. I've tried a few different types including a nasal pillow one (caused sores on my nose but could be user error). I'm a restless sleeper and have leakage issues too. Thanks for the chopstick tip; will have to try that. I'd like to hear from those that no longer need theirs. How'd you know you no longer needed it? Was it hard to get used to not wearing it? It's a pain in the keister to camp and travel with the darn thing. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13

That's great. I was sleeved by Dr. Hoehn in May at the Prairie Star Parkway facility. Everything went great. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13

Hardly, I'm not the "follower" type. Quite capable of thinking for myself. Can we please leave the high school crap behind? Didn't like it then, don't need a repeat. Can we vote this topic off the island yet? Please! Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13

Seems like people are missing the point. Doctor's are not to sleep with their patients willing or not. Ever. Period. If nothing else, it confuses the doctor patient relationship as you've seen here. Yes, she's responsible for her actions. It doesn't change the fact he was clearly not acting in the best interests of his patient. That's what being a doctor is about, looking out for their patients. Don't attack people who expect doctors to live up to their obligations. Laura-ven was following her convictions, not launching a vendetta against the guy. Let's be mature about this and let it go. Dr. Garcia has dealt with the situation. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13

I was able to sleep onmyside right away using a method a physical therapist taught me for hip pain. Get a big, solid pillow and place it firmly behind you back as you lay on your side. Roll slightly back into the pillow so it's supporting you. Also, but another pillow between you knees to reduce stress on your hips and back. It works for me. Hope this is helpful. Where are the apple shapes?!
ShelPrice replied to NewAshes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Apple here...seem like I lose faster everywhere than my stomach. Face, legs, back are more obvious. My waist is slower. Oh well, I'll take any loss. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13 -

Janice, you are mistaken. Sexual abuse is still abuse if the victim was not of sound mind for mental or physical reasons. Authority figures (teachers, doctors, psychiatrists, bosses, etc. are forbidden to have a sexual relationship with those under their care/authority. Like having sex with someone too drunk to make w coherent decision, it's morally, ethically and sometimes legally wrong. It does not diminish the harm done to you. It's not a contest to see who was wronged the most. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13 -
I was allowed 3 - 4 low carb, low fat Protein shakes a day. Could also have non-caloric drinks and broth. It wasn't so bad, I looked as a challenge. Shel in Kansas - Sleeved 5/21/13

What do you tell the haters?
ShelPrice replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nice thing about getting older, I don't give a crap what others think about having the surgery. That being said, I've told everyone I know and no one has been anything other than supportive. Shel in Kansas / Sleeved 5/21/13 -

First picture was taken about a month before my surgery, I'd already lost a bit of weight. The second was taken 5 weeks post op. -

Second thoughts?
ShelPrice replied to thetattooedlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'd sit down and list the pros and cons of having the surgery and not having the surgery, then decide based on the facts rather than fear. Think of as many contingencies as you can and plan on how you will deal with them. The majority on these forums have had positive results, though not all. There will be some pain and discomfort, usually that passed fairly quickly. Are you prepared for this lifestyle change? What's most important to you...your current relationship with food or losing the weight? Do you honestly believe that the surgery is the best/only way to get to a healthy weight? Only you can decide that. I'm five weeks post-op and it has gone perfectly for me. I hope your recover quickly from the flu and wish you the best of luck whatever you decide. I'm researching as this is a concern of mine. Want to prepared for when it happens (it seems to for most people regardless of how much bioten they take). http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-style-thinning-hair/ Shel in Kansas<br />Sleeved 5/21/13
