feb 2013 sleevers weigh in
JonB replied to kathyhalls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 2/25. Total loss for four weeks (including two week pre-op diet) = 26 pounds. I had to do a six month supervosed diet before the surgery (required by my insurance), during which I lost 106 pounds. So, seven month total = 132 pounds. Starting weight: 474. Current weight: 342. -
I ate a lot of canned tuna or chicken with low fat mayo, put through the blender. Also cottage cheese blended with a little vanilla extract, cinnamon and Equal.

hair for surgery day
JonB replied to onelessfatgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pull it back in a ponytail or whatever. Keep it out of your face. You'll have an oxygen line to your nose for the first day at least. -
As far as beef, I'm sticking with ground beef, broken up into crumbles - "loose meat" style. I put teaspoon of dehydrated onion flakes and two tablespoons of beef broth in a cup and microwave it for 30 seconds - that makes the onion flakes plump back to life. I mix that in with 4 ounces of ground beef and cook it in a skillet, breaking it up with a fork as it cooks. Delicious and easy to digest!

My doc says PROTEIN ONLY - meat, fish, eggs, cheese - 4 ounces per meal - for the first three months post-surgery. Then I can add 1 veggie per day, then after another three months, one fruit, then one starch.

For cheap, causal stuff like tee-shirts, polos, etc, I go t K-Mart!

Three meals a day... No snacking!?
JonB replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told three meals, no snacking, except for sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and broth, all of which count as liquids, not food. Most important, I have to wait 90 minutes after eating to consume any liquids. Food must have time to move from the tiny stomach into the intestines. -
Blend low fat cottage cheese until smooth (the consistency of greek yogurt). Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, sweetner. Tastes like a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting. 80 calories, 15 grams Protein in a 4 ounce serving! Tuna with low fat mayo is good pureed.

Hi! Here is my progress: Weight at start of two week pre-op diet: 372. No scale at home - would only weigh at doctor's office up to this point. Did not weigh day of surgery. Finally bought a scale one week after surgery. Current weight (10 days after surgery: 347.

Mine was put in after I was asleep. The removal on the day of my relase from the hospital was not at all painful, but it did burn when I peed the first couple of times.
-
Every doctor/clinic has it's own version of the pre-op diet. Mine was two protein shakes a day, plus one meal consisting of 4 ounces of a low fat meat (chicken or fish, for example) and a half cup of veggies. I was not hungy at all.

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
JonB replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. Brian Lahmann at BMI Surgery - Silver Cross Hospital, New Lenox, Illinois (south suburb of Chicago). It's a gorgeous, brand new hospital, and the staff couldn't be nicer. Dr. Lahmann and his partner Dr, Christopher Joyce have been doing bariatric surgery for over 10 years. They have the highest ratings. -
Much of Carnie Wilson's weight re-gain after her bypass had to do with her being an alcoholic. She was drinking a bottle of wine a day. Some people have addictive personalities. It may be genetic. Her father has dealt with substance abuse problems and mental illness his whole life.

FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
JonB replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had surgery Mon. 2/25. Out of the hospital on Wed., well enough for normal activity by Friday. No post-op complications. The hardest thing right now is getting used to eating (pureed food) and drinking SLOWLY. If I swallow too much food, or gulp water instead of sipping, I get a slight pain/spasm, as if my body is yelling, "SLOW DOWN!" My "official" weight when i started my two-week pre-op liquid diet was 372. One week after surgery, I'm down to 350. 22 pounds in three weeks! -
pureed cottage chesse isn't "gross". It has the consistencty of Greek yogurt. For breakfast, I did pureed cottage cheese with a little vanilla extract, cinnamon, and artificial sweetner. It tastes like a cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting! Another treat: 16 ounces low-fat cottage cheese pureed with 1 small envelope of sugar free Jello powder - makes four 4 oz. servings. strawberry is my favorite, but any flavor will work.
