  1. The good two months out: is having lost 44 pounds. The bad: was not being able to tolerate any Protein drinks for the first month. The ugly: Esophagus Spasms! Up until a week or so ago my esophagus would not let most things go down because is forgot what to do. At first food and liquids would get stuck and and my esophagus would start to spasm, which is incredibly painful. Some food would manage to go down, the rest came back up. Eventually my esophagus remembered how to push food down again, but it was so swollen by this point that food and liquids got stuck in my chest. Last week the swelling finally went down and now I'm testing my new stomach for the first time. It's rather upset with me at the moment. LOL

    Houston-SETX Sleevers?!

Exactly! I was flabbergasted. I went to meet this doctor because he goes the extra miles to make sure his patients don't spring a leak. But in my mind, his requirements were to stringent. I choose Dr. Turnquest instead and love him.

    Houston-SETX Sleevers?!

On top of insurance requirements you have to go six months weighing in with him and you can't gain a single pound. That was one of his requirements before he will do the surgery. That might be easy for some, but not for me before surgery.

    Houston-SETX Sleevers?!

I had mine at NW on 1960/45 but I know Memorial in The Woodlands does it too. I almost went there but the surgeon was to strict.
  5. It gets better! It's really, really hard for awhile and I still have my days; but it's nothing like it was. Keep moving forward, you can do this!
  6. Wow, that's horrible.

    Houston-SETX Sleevers?!

The only meetups I know of in our area are the free onces hosted by the hospitals. I go to the one at Houston NW which is at 45/1960. They meet once a month.
  9. I was sleeved the 10th, I'm not losing anything either. It will take time. I lost a lot the first week, I figure my body just needs time to catch up. <Shrugs>
  10. So the first time it happened was last night. I am on the mushy food stage, my paper states that I eat three times a day with two Snacks. I had had all three meals slowly through out the day but no snacks. So it was a few hours before bed so I had a Low fat, no sugar cup of pudding. I had only had two tiny bites when both sides of my back right between my shoulder blades and in the breast area of my chest, suddenly started to really hurt. A between a burning and a stabbing pain. For over half an hour it would burn/stab for a minute the stop for thirty seconds. I tried to walk it off, I didn't take another bite of the pudding. But nothing helped. Finally it stopped and I sat back down. I slept late, got some chores in and didn't eat my tiny Breakfast until noon. At 4:30pm I made a scrambled egg, almost runny, with a little bit of cheese for lunch. I got two tiny bites in when it started again. This time I threw up. What little bit of eggs I ate, some white liquid stuff and drops of blood. Is this gallbladder? A leak? Gas? If it happens again, I will call my doctor. Not sure if I should call my PCP or surgeons office. It's the weekend now so I wont get a call back until Monday anyways, unless I just go the ER. And I am not going to the ER unless I am dying. LOL. Opinions? Thanks for any help you can give.

    What is this?

I talked to my doctor last night, he said it sounds like Diffuse Esophageal Spasms. And to go back to mostly liquids. Liquids hurt going down too, just not nearly as much. So it has nothing to do with my stomach, food isn't even making it that far before coming right back up in the most painful way possible. Great. I wonder when it will be safe to eat again? He didn't say that. And research online basically says that they have no idea what causes is. Thanks for the support everyone!

  16. So I have been trying to figure out when I am full. I don't ever feel full. There is no pressure, no feeling at all in fact. Instead my entire body will get a sudden hot flash that will leave a sheen of sweat on my face and back. If I take another bite after that, it will only get worse. I did not understand what it meant at first, I live in south Texas, it's ALWAYS freaking hot. And right now it's in the 100's out there so the A/C units are fighting to keep anywhere even kinda cool. So now I get an extra flash of heat to top it all off. LOL! Before the surgery when I would ignore being hungry I would suddenly get dizzy and nauseous. Now, I skip the feeling hungry part and seem to go straight to dizzy and nauseous when I need to eat something. I was shocked when I realized that had followed me through, even if it makes since that it did. But I guess now I know what REAL hunger feels like, and what head hunger feels like. One last thing, not being able to drink for thirty minutes before and after food, sucks! I am perpetually thirsty, no matter how much I drink. So for the hour and a half I can't drink is almost torture. LOL! Getting used to my new life, one day and one lesson at a time.

    Pureed Foods

I hope to go to mush foods tomorrow. Water has been a nightmare for me since my surgery so someone told me to try breaking the no straw rule. It worked wonders! When I drink from a straw I have almost no reflux or gas. Go figure.

    Approved!

    Congratulations!
  22. I am six days out and have watched everyone around me eat all of my favorites around me, over and over and over. My family is not doing it to be mean. They have to eat too, and what they have in the fridge and freezer are all foods I love. I can't stand to even look at broth now, Water feels like someone is stabbing me in the chest every time I drink it (even with Crystal Light). I am out of Popsicles and all I have left is Jello. Ugh, I finally talked my mom into taking me to the store where I got avocado, milk, Breakfast shakes and other no sugar items to make thin smoothies that are keeping me from tearing that pizza out of the TV and stuffing it in my mouth, tiny stomach be damned. None of it is on the list but I have had absolutely no problems getting it down. As a matter of fact it all seems to be a slider food because I can slowly have A LOT before I get any kind of indication that I am full. But hours later the family eats again, the smell overwhelms, the commercials are displaying, and I WANT FOOD! Not liquid.

You also have to look at where your posting. This is a sleeve forum so almost everyone here will be 'go sleeve'. (As I am.) When I made the decision on which surgery was for me, I went around to all three forums, looked at what the banded and bypass people were saying in there forums. Also look to see what they are saying about other surgeries. Each surgery has it's own pros and cons. Look at them all very carefully before making this life changing decision. Good luck!
