Stall at 1 week post op?
rewind replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 17 pre-op then 13 the first week after surgery. Then I LOST NOTHING FOR THREE WEEKS. I was mad, depressed....I did everything right. I was stunned, really. But you will lose weight according to your biology; every one is different. So don't focus on the scale. Follow your surgeon/NUT recommendations, and just wait it out. It will happen. It is a math problem. Hang in there. Your scale will move. And then you will encourage others !! -
I want popcorn! Or atleast like it !
rewind replied to ItsjustmeHQ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE popcorn and have enjoyed it several times. But NOT NOW for you, it's just too soon. Let the guys go for some bonding time, or do something else....that you can all do. There will be plenty of time for popcorn. But start getting it in your head now, that you will have to limit yourself because popcorn is a carb and a slider food which can lead us down that ugly path. Best of Luck!! -
Upset Stomach After Eating
rewind replied to Readytolose2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three months out and had that same problem. Everyone is different. It may be that your stomach is not quite ready for the foods you are eating.....even if you are allowed to have them. So, if you're eating slow and chewing adequately, your stomach may not be quite ready, and needs a little more healing time. Perhaps stick with what has worked another few days and try again. My stomach does best if I start the day with a shake. It's just the way it is. If I start with eggs... I sometimes throw them up. So just go slow as your body adjusts and your stomach heals. At three months I'm doing better, unless I eat too fast....which is my current struggle. Good Luck!! -
I am almost three months out. I have good days and bad days....but you can't stop now. You can't. You have come too far and you are worth it. Think back to all the miserable ways of obesity, and all the things you couldn't do.... think of the progress you made and how good it feels. Maybe talk to a professional to get back on track. Lose all the bad foods you have on hand. 'Cheat' on something you're allowed to have....buy something new; clothes, candles, something for your home. Keep talking to yourself to get your head in the game. And as suggested, switch up your exercise routine and diet. And surround yourself with people and places that will promote success. And if you have faith, pray for the strength to continue this journey.

I am ten weeks out. Week 1-4 were really hard for me. I wanted food. I wanted to eat. Just something. I know exactly how you feel. I HATED the pureed stage, and even the soft foods were awful. They only thing that seemed like real food, was quiche. But that went down kinda hard because I ate too fast. Still, it was good. On thing I did early on, was get a calzone from a pizza shop. I could have ricotta cheese, so I just ripped that thing open, right in the car, and slowly sucked on the ricotta cheese...and maybe a pepperoni.... It was so good and I have no regrets. I gave the bread, and actually most of the calzone, to my dog. Another thing I did, and I'm not suggesting this....is one day I caved in and bought a small bag of Doritos. I sat in my car and chewed them and spit them out. I just needed the salt, the cheese, the crunch, the taste. I'm not proud of this but it was what I could do to get over the urge, and not ruin myself with binging. Again, I'm not recommending this, but for me it worked because I got over the urge, worked through my choices, motivation, and actions. I have not done that again. I guess it was part of my learning curve. I'm sorry if this seems gross to any readers. I am being painfully honest. It will get better. Just hang on. I think for some of use those early weeks are harder, more challenging. I threw up a lot, challenged my sleeve, and was miserable. But now I have learned and have grown to respect this opportunity. I still make mistakes, but not so severe. And since I'm cleared for all foods, I can feel more satisfied with my choices. It is an individual journey. Best of luck...and I'm sure you will feel better soon, and it will all seem worth it.

So afraid I'll still look ugly
rewind replied to WeeWers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also 59 and have been sleeved just shy of 3 months. I am your weight, and only 5'3". SOOOO there is bound to be lots of skin hanging everywhere! I'm sure I'm going to hate it, but plan to love spandix!! I am early on my journey, but do hope to have my tummy tucked a year or two down the road. I can't worry I won't feel pretty with lots of skin. I sure haven't felt pretty being 100 + pounds overweight. So I think the best thing to do is plug alone, and just deal with the 'side effect'. Sure is much better then diabetes, CPAP's. high BP.... I wasn't having those issues, but honestly, I'm sure it was just a matter of time.... Focus on the new you... and the new life you will have! -
I am a side sleeper and slept that way my first night home. No problems. Hope it works for you too!

I think that is a good idea....to take a very little bit and go to another room and sit. When it's gone, it's gone. I may have to set an alarm on my phone when I can get up and get another ounce or two. Sounds extreme but this is so vital to my success I have to try something 'drastic'. Decades of bad habits are not going to be cured by surgery. And I probably should keep my favorite foods out of the house until I am in more control.......?
-
Yes, it is a change that is not coming easy. Surgery does not change an eating disorder. I find myself eager to eat foods now allowed, and eating too fast and taking too big a bite. I was a binge eater and am afraid that will return. So I guess if I can't get a handle on it through self-discipline and some tips mentioned above, I may have to see a counselor to find out why I want to sabotage myself after making this life-changing decision for surgery.

Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
rewind replied to nervousnellie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a very thin child. Finished HS at 115 pounds, and college at 125. Married at 28 at 130 pounds. Then through my 30's I had 3 children. Gained with each of them and I just keep gaining..... Now, in my 50's, I am, obviously, quite heavy! I am ten weeks post sleeve, and down 53 pounds. This includes 17 pounds pre-op. I think you raise an interesting question. I wonder if any program tracks that info. It makes me wonder if someone is more genetically compromised toward obesity, or whether others make poorer choices. I do know that stress can be a factor. For me it certainly was. And I continue to have stress which may not bode well for my success. Good luck to you..... may we be thin again. lol -
We all lose based on our biology. Hang in there. The scale will start to move. I was sleeved late February and lost 13 pounds the first week, then nothing for THREE WEEKS. I followed every rule and recommendation. It's just our bodies adjusting. The best thing you can do is not focus on it. Weight will come off. It's a math problem. It will. Just wait for it.

Weightloss for a new sleever
rewind replied to Kerstalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am ten weeks out and after a first week loss of 13 pounds, I lost NOTHING FOR THREE WEEKS! I almost drove myself crazy. But then, sure enough, it started to come off. Most weeks I have had a loss, but two weeks I did not. Pick ONE DAY of the week to record your weight. If you weigh other days, use it as a guide to see how you're doing. But remember, weight fluctuates so if you are one who will go nuts with a gain during the week, best to throw the scale out or just not weigh. We will all lose weight according to our biology, so we can't go crazy with what we can't control. Good luck to all. -
Food suggestions for soft food diet?
rewind replied to krystalt313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I am about two months ahead of you. Soft foods.... I did eat scrambled eggs, and also made quiches with cheese, finely ground sausage and bacon. I tolerated it very well, as long as I remembered to eat it ever so s l o w.... Ricotta cheese too. And a spoonful of peanut butter became a lollipop treat. I also bought some chunky soups (and stew), and put them in a mini processor for a split second, until they were soft and mixed, but not yet pureed. Those also worked for me. Also I could tolerate pork pulled from baby back ribs. It was very moist and went down easily. Gravy helps when eating chicken. Many people eat tunafish, and also cottage cheese. Good Luck to you! -
If you have a Dairy Queen near you and plan to go, please give them a call to see if they carry this treat. I went with family after a baseball game and was so excited because I knew what I could have.... only to learn they no longer carry the item; it didn't sell well enough. Bummer!!

12 weeks post op with new issue
rewind replied to sstark1285's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, could be your gallbladder. There is a med you can take (bear liver) to prevent stones, and I guess the shock of your gallbladder not having enough to do... check with your MD. -
9 weeks out, ques. About eating
rewind replied to bringiton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also 9 weeks out and do have strawberries. Have no problem. Just have a couple, and they are delicious. I also put two or three in a protein shake. -
I like to put a whole chicken fryer (salt and peppered), breast side down, in my crock pot. I add a cup of chicken broth, and a cup of white wine. I also throw in some celery, carrots, and onions. Let it cook all day, about 8 hours. The chicken is so moist it just falls apart. And then you have several options: Just pull the chicken out, you won't be disappointed, it's a great meal by itself. Or you could make soup. Or you could make chicken and gravy with biscuits (biscuits for other, of course). Or you could make a pot pie. Or you could make chicken salad. Just about anything, with a pot full of very moist chicken. Very economical. Very easy. Very delicious.

Wonton wrappers, who knew. Thank you so much for the post. I tried to figure this out, and used thin pastry sheets. Of course it was too much and I threw it up. I love everything Italian and will try using some pepperoni too. Can't wait. Thanks again...

Thanks for sharing. Love sesame chicken and can't wait to try now that I am approved for all foods...

Puree recipes. HELP NEEDED! Please help. Need recipe ideals. So lost. Please let me know you favorite recipe!
rewind replied to beachblondeee's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I also bought chunky soups and beef stew and gave it a whirl in a small processor, almost pureed but a tad shy. Had no problem. Also, quiches with cheese, and even with some pulverized sausage was okay with me. Yogurt is always good, but I got tired of it. I enjoyed peanut butter too. -
I struggle with carbs too. I'm 10 weeks out and log them everyday, also on Lose It. I try to keep them low, but I average about 50 a day. I'm not having a lot of fruit, rather mine come from potatoes, popcorn, and crackers. If I start adding fruit, I'll have to give up the other. And I will likely rotate it some and just keep logging it in. I like Lose It, probably quite similar to Myfittnesspal, as I know what I have left as the day progresses. It allows me to plan ahead and 'save' some carbs for later... or know that I've had enough. Carbs are a big part of what I did wrong before surgery. I had no idea, for example, that my bowl of grapenuts had 90 carbs. Who would have thought...bark chips....were so bad. So shoot for 40 carbs and if you go over, 60 is okay. We just have to watch it. Fortunately for me I don't have a sweet tooth, so I'm not dealing with candies and desserts. Good luck!

Help...I'm being deprived!
rewind replied to ReginaRings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 weeks out and had the exact same experience. I tried to stay with recommendations...it was so hard. I pushed the envelope a bit, to try to satisfy my cravings. Those first few weeks....were so hard. I was sick of eggs, and don't like cottage cheese. Sick of yogurt. One thing I did was to buy a calzone from a pizza shop, about 10 days out or so. Yes. A calzone. Stuffed with ricotta cheese (allowed) and pepperoni.(allowed if tolerated) I dug out the center, and ate it very very slowly. Of course I didn't eat the whole thing, but it was so satisfying. Something so different and so normal and it was wonderful. The texture and the taste helped me realize I would be able to have these things again. Sooo...... if there is something you want that would satisfy you, think if there is a way to have it or prepare it that will work within the guidelines. You have to be creative.
