2nd Day Pre-Op Diet-Harder Than I Thought
mattintosh replied to wishmeluck13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK lets see. You are kidding I hope! If you are not joking then I am pissed at the team that placed your band because you do not seem to be mentally prepared for this... If you decide to start to shovel it in you are going to be surprised by what comes next. Over eating and drinking with a band in place can cause serious health risks to you. Very serious! This implant is no joke. Did anyone teach you anything about how the band works? Or how you are to work it? God you need to talk to someone that knows what is going on so you can get re educated before you hurt your self. Again your surgeon should have screened you before placing the band and educated you as to how it works and what to expect etc... If that is not the case then get back to me and I will get you up to speed. I AM NOT JOKING! I will help you make this band work..ok? I am banded and down 180 lbs. Know all about the ups and downs with banded life. I am here for you if you need me. -
Some pre-op questions
mattintosh replied to Northern Mist's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Catheters are a decision made by the lead surgeon. Generally not used. Gas pain is a referred pain often relieved by warm compress maybe a little pain meds given for your recovery time. Not dangerous or serious just standing and walking seems to help a bunch. You should have had these kinds of questions already answered by your surgery team. Make sure they know what they are doing. Support and follow up is hard to get after banding when you are not getting educated before banding. -

Can you drink to much liquid on liquid stage?
mattintosh replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go slow most Dr.s and "dieticians are not thinking about the fact your new tummy is at most only 8 oz. At most!!! Please start your day with getting in your protien albiet liquid then drink your clear water. GO SLOW!!! Work your band.!!! If you don't understand what I mean then we need to talk. Let me know and I will get you my number. Too many folks get of track in the early stages and never work their bands correctly. Frankly the general surgeons are into the surgery part of this journey not the long run. Not the day to day hour by hour part. I would be honored to assist in any way I can. My dr.s taught me and are still teaching me and I would glady pass on what I know and have learned from them... -
Can you drink to much liquid on liquid stage?
mattintosh replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats the joy of being banded! It takes a long time even for liquids to pass the restricted area. Becarefull. Start in the am and get your protien in first! Watch your quantities and go slow.k? -
thats terrible! I know what you must be feeling. If you don't get a call try *********.com. They will give you a date straight away. No delays they realize how important this is.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
mattintosh replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its all about shrinking your liver. Yogurt and water works well. -
Can you drink to much liquid on liquid stage?
mattintosh replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course you can just like you can eat too much on nthe solid food phase as well. Come on think about it. Your new tummy is smallr but you can stretch it out if you continue to over consume. Go slowly. stop after ten minutes. Keep track of the food and drink. Don't over do it!! My Dr.s at Getbandednow.com made it very clear to me how to eat and drink. What and when as well as how much and how fast. -

trying to pick Doctor
mattintosh replied to austiesky's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So many of these "large Patient Base' Dr.s have actually been good at marketing their services online. They encourage their patients to refer others and speak highly of them. You never hear of the ones that had problems why is that? The Nationl averages are higher than these fellas say that their numbers are. For example in the US it is said that the complication rate in banding is say 2-5%. But these high visibility surgeons have numbers way way lower. How can that be? Simple they don't tell people. Not beating anyone up here its just that if you do alot of surgeries you are going to have more opportunities for complications. Simple arithmetic. Short protocols means you are home before the problem arrises and therefore not something they feel the need to take responsibility for therefore they have low numbers of problems. Not really but thats how they look so good. Look for a team that has a four day protocol. Just my humble opinion. Try Getbandednow.com they have a four day protocol and very very low numbers. Just ask them. I did. I am down 125 lbs so far with no issues. they called me regularly and I spoke with the Dr.s several times. They were never to busy making money to call me. I loved that. Very supportive and thats why I have been so successful at losing the weight. Its not just getting the band but being taught how to work it for the long haul. Thats what we are paying for. In fact its been four years now and they still email me and call me on the phone to see how I am doing. Thats service, thats support. -

Is it the fee that makes these the top two? If so that can be a mistake. -
trying to pick Doctor

The parking lot for the Hospital is dirt. I saw a deaqd cock roach the size of my hand on the floor of the lobby. No one spoke English But the Dr. He is a nice man. But again Low fee low service. Its just not worth the risk. I know of a man that went there and it took four and a half hours to place the band. They knocked loose two teeth intubating him and hew was off work for over a month recovering. Try Getbandednow.com They are first class with a responsible and safe protocol. I am down over 125 lbs they have been there for me every time I call or email. In fact Dr. Gutierezz actually visited me at home once when he was traveling the US on a speaking engagement!! They are the best ...MHO -
Pleas help me pick a Mexican Doctor, I need your help !!!!!!!!!!!!!
mattintosh replied to jdhj861jr's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have not only heard of Horror stories I know of several first hand. We dumb Americans think that surgery is like shopping for shoes. The lowest price is the best shoe. Not so with surgery. You get what you pay for. If the fee is low so is the quality of service. For example Folks at Bajanor gave a lady a band that she should never had gotten. She was not healthy enough for surgery but because they did not spend the money for quality pre op tests they never knew it. Three weeks after getting banded she died at home. The surgery was 6500.00 The pre op tests if done properly can be as much as 1500.00. So if the fee is low you are not getting safe medical treatment. These stories are not released because the low fee (dr.s) don't tell folks about the problems. They hide the facts. The Dr.s at Getbandednow.com keep you for four days! Their protocol is amazing and so is their sucess rate. Its less than buying a used car. OK enough horror stories. Just know this that if you are getting a short protocol a low fee placement something is being sacraficed and it could very well be your life. I go to Mexico regularly. I meet these Dr.s and hear them speak of how some high profile surgeons treat their patients and it is alarming. Dr verboonen of Obesity goodbye just got out of Federal Prison for insurance fraud! Yet he offers low fee banding. If you have a problem you are going to find they don't answer the phone. Or if go there they make you sit in the office all day because they say they have emergencies to take care of. Yeah right. They are hoping you will go away is all. Low fee means poor treatment. Its a matter of when that treatment is needed by you. its just not worth it. -

If you want the best care possible and not be about the fee, go to the team at getbandednow.com. Lead surgeon is a FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons). They use a full Anethesiologist a second surgeon and a surgical nurse. Hard to get that care anywhere for same fee. They really are cool. Their support is amazing 24/7! -

mattintosh replied to jdhj861jr's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Well because you asked I feel good in responding. It is important to choose a Dr. that has more than a fair price for banding. If you should encounter a complication (and they do happen) you want a Dr. that will treat you. Most complications occur a couple days after banding and if you go with the lo end Docs you will be home when the problems arrise. I looked into this and found that the Dr.s of Getbandednow.com kept you from Monday to Thursday. They speak perfect English and have amazing support long long after banding. In fact they require you keep in contact with them. They consistently give nutritional guidance and emotional support 24/7. Gotta tell you they are by far the best. The nutrional specialist travels all over the US speaking on womens nutrition and weightloss issues. One other thing is that they are always available. They always answer the phone and emails. They seem to really care that you lose the weight and stay healthy. Well thats about it givem a call they are very very good... :peace: -
Too Tight, Not Tight enough, Slip, Dilation..???
mattintosh replied to AngieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Absolutely!! You are too tight and you are eating too late at night. Yes try the OTC for reflux and yes the aspiration of food while s;eeping is a big no no. Been there done that. Go back to basics. Try liquids and drink plenty of waterm clear your pouch long before going to bed. Stop eating after fifteen minutes!! Take care of yourself and remember to eat slowly. -
