Any One Else Struggling - - PLEASE HELP
annielkd replied to ginger3151's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think there is a mathematical way to do that. If you have two drinks (even using water) they are going to be about 200-300 calories.... then that would leave 700 for food.... I don't know what state you are in... but, that's about 350 for two meals. It's a tough struggle. I have two drinks a day... then I eat twice... but, I try to stick to about 200 calories per meal. It's tough. -
May 22nd? 9 pounds is good... you're supposed to have about 10 pounds a month... on a good month.
-
You completely confuse me jsrico... your posting shows that you've lost 13 pound since surgery.... that's awesome. I've only lost 9. Sometimes weight plateaus... but, even one pound back is better than what you normally would weigh. If you continue to gain... call the doctor. Weight fluctuates... even the weather can effect that. Never mind water weight... gaining muscle, PMS...... I think you've done great!!!!!

I had a pain, my surgery was on the 21st... but, that was only with an O. It didn't hurt after that. I think you should talk to your doctor. We weren't even that gentle. Call him/her and ask.

Scale Stuck? Only 2 weeks post-op...
annielkd replied to RKidder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you that I was in the exact same boat. However, now it's 17 dyas post op and I did drop a few more pounds. Last week I only lost 2.5 pounds. I think you were hoping that you would continue to lose a pound a day... but, that's 2000 calories per day. My body can only burn 1400 calories in a day (I had a metabolic test) and since I'm consuming about 700 calories then 2 1/2 pounds is exactly what I should lose. Wait the week and see if you lose about that too. I was getting psyched in the beginning... but, it doesn't continue. Be happy with 1-2 pounds a week. (If you don't have that by the end of day 14 then call your doctor. YOu might be getting too many liquid calories. -
Perhaps a dumb question?
annielkd replied to austiesky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I think is that there are two types of gas... the pain in the body capacity will only go away from walking and heat, and the other will be helped with the gas X. I had both gas in my body, and in the intestinal/stomach. Just knowing what's causing the pain was relieving... if not for this web site, I would have thought something was severely wrong. -
Try unjury... it's great. (chocolate)

How do you progress to new foods?
annielkd replied to cyndilou29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still scared all the time. I used chicken noodle, blended to the consistency of tomato soup. (I was scared the tomato would be too strong)... then each day I would try something new. Today I tried scrambled eggs. (without a blender!!!!!) I completely know what you are saying... it's scary. I can tell you the first night I tried "food".. I had pasta pureed... that night I was up all night praying I didn't throw it up. START with one food... then build up to two a day. Take it slow. Have one or two oz. Build up to 3. Hope this helps. -
I keep reading aobut PBing... what is that?
-
I was able to drive the night I got out of the hospital (next day)It wasn't comfortable... but, I could do it. If your only concern is getting them around, you'll be able to do it. BUT, you'll need to rest inbetween.

I am getting nervous about getting banded
annielkd replied to cattiff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Even after surgery you will be scared. Scared of what's normal... scared about eating too much/too little.... scared about throwing up.... scared about not losing weight... BUT, you will be happy with your decision -

Pre-fill (mushies) food volume
annielkd replied to woodguy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lori Ann... thank you for this information. I wrote to my doctor's nurse, and she never got back to me. I had the same question. I'm eating about 2-3 oz of mushies about twice a day. I'm also drinking my protein. I figured the most I should get up to would be about 4 oz. Last night I had 1/2 a meatball. I was worried that it would be too much (blended to about 2 oz) I'm surprised you can tolerate the beef. I guess we all have different thresholds for what we can eat. -
HELP-Family don't want me to succeed
annielkd replied to Bamalama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can tell you that I think MOST heavy people are that way because they devote their lives to someone else. I know that even though my husband "claimed" he wanted me to do this... when I had to take the time away from him and his needs, it really pissed him off. We have to stop letting people be depended on us, and take care of ourselves for a change. I'm sorry to hear about your cancer... but, you are right... caring for youself might make the journey a little easier. You NEED to take care of yourself first. You don't have to think about what they think... they are not you. When I first started looking into lapband, they mentioned that there were divorces over this. I couldn't figure out why. Then as my husband complained about my appointments I figured it out. We (heavy people) are always doing what's best for others, not ourselves.... people expect that from us. They don't want us to care about ourselves. Tell your family... this is what I'm doing. If you can't support me on this... and you have no real reasons...(like if this was going to make your cancer worse) then you are just being selfish. That's not what love is about. -
This is good information to know... I'm still eating mushies (more like a tomato soup than mushie) and I can eat about 3 oz. before feeling it. I told my husband I was scared of getting a "fill" because what would I eat then??? It's good to know that this might be tight enough.

Banded on Tuesday and am having a rough time
annielkd replied to deb24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on a Monday... I was horrible by sat... cried all night. Sunday came, and I felt much better. You will get through this... it just doesn't seem possible... but, it get's better. -
I probably should have mentioned that was from an earlier time... not this time.
-
I'm a teacher too. I work with 5th grade difficult students. I WISH I had taken off more time. I really should have used two weeks. IF you can... take two weeks!!!!!!!!
-
I had to go back to work after 7 days... wore a bra...took it off on the way home from work. It's starting to get better now (day 11). I would suggest a regular one... the other one sounds too low.
-
Thank you so much... I still don't know what I have. (small or large) I think doctor's should be more forthcomming. He didn't even tell me he was going to use the new one... told me after... said that we would figure it out together.
-
I can really feel for you. But you are right... we are on the mend!!!!!! Whoopie for us!!!!!
-
I've read so many people saying they can't do their protein... I highly recommend unjury. The chocolate tastes like hot chocolate. (I didn't like the unflavored, and the vanilla was a little lumpy... but still tasty) Hope this helps!

Desperately need some help
annielkd replied to cyndilou29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I am able to get down something... and liquids... I freaked out till now. I thought there was something wrong with me. I had a tough time too. I can tell you for some reason hot items go down easier for me. I could drink about 4 oz of protein (hot) and it would take about an hour. (Try unjury... it tastse like hot chocolate)... I'm supposed to be on soft food by Monday... but, I still can't do pureed. When I was in the hospital I had trouble getting down anything, and the woman next to me downed her broth, two juices, and a tea! I'm glad to know it's just the band is small. Do you think I can pursuade the doctor not to fill in 6 weeks? -
Other than the size and how they place it.... are there any differences... I can't find literature on it at all. (He may have said 50... I remember the number was small... I was on diladud at the time:) Do you know where I can find info?
-
My doctor told me he gave me the new band (don't know if he means AP)... but, it must have more restriction because even though I'm supposed to be on mushies... I can't do that... have to make them like tomato soup. He told me that only 10 doctors in the country had been given this new band... is this what you are talking about?
