Very Bizzare Thing Happened!???
annielkd replied to realmccoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that everytime I go in there they take out the liquid to make sure there isn't a leak... so I'm sure it could happen. (Not saying that's what happened to you) I'm leaning on it being an air bubble. -
Very Bizzare Thing Happened!???
annielkd replied to realmccoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a "fill" last time (it's almost a year for me too) and then I had NO restriction at all. (I know this is somehow different from you)... but, they "think" that I might have had an air bubble, and now I don't anymore. So, maybe it was an air bubble, the vibration was it's way of working itself out????? Or, you sprung a leak. Let us know what it is! -
What was his reasoning behind losing the weight? Before your surgery they will put you on a liquid diet to shrink the liver... but, this seems pretty pre-mature. I'm also in CT... but, I have Dr. Tishler (who's awesome) You might want to find out exactly WHY the doctor told you to lose 10 pounds, the decide if you should have the frap.

I have read A LOT on this sight, now I'm worried
annielkd replied to ineedthis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I believe the psych eval is to see if you are going into this for the right reasons. Do you want to be healthy? Are you doing this so you can weigh less... or do you think that your life will be SOOOO much better if you are skinny? (Thinking you are going to be skinny one thing that will rule you out.) If you are tired of being fat... and want to be healthy... then it will show it. Most heavy people have issues with depression... I think the main reason is to see if you have realistic ideas about what the band can do for you. It's not going to save a marriage, it's not going to make you a model, it's not going to make all your problems go away... but it will help you control your eating. You still need to control your choices. Go for it!!!! -
Vent re: 6 months supervised weight loss
annielkd replied to CarolAnne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds stupid to me. If you could diet like that for 6 months... then you could probably do this on your own. The lap band is to help you with this. I would call the insurance and see what their requirements are for the 6 months. Maybe you just have to "try" -
Plus... sometimes you can go in for a small fill... and end up with less restriction due to possible air bubbles! You have to be open and honest with your doctor. This is YOUR journey. It's not a race, it's a marathon!

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
annielkd replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't miss the way people look the other way when I'm shopping because they think I'm contageous or something. I won't miss the way I worry about being able to fit in chairs. I won't miss the way someone looks at you when you order an ice cream... like you are too huge to have one. I won't miss the way people in resteraunts look at you when you order. I won't miss not having pictures. I won't miss men not opening doors for me! I won't miss being snubbed by people I work with. There is so MUCH I won't miss!!!!!! -
I don't think that's what it's saying. After you get coverage (what ever their requirements) the surgery has to be within that 3 months.... if you need to extend it... then you have to have lost 12 pound... I think. I did NOT have a required amount of time to wait... or time to lose. I used BCBS... but, I'm in Connecticut. AND, it depends on your type of plan based on your work. But, I'll bet you will be fine!!! :rolleyes2:

Smaller Clothes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
annielkd replied to kyteachjules's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had that exact same experience... only my mom was with me. I said.. Mom, I don't think my pants fit right... I think they are too big. She came in the room with me... and I ended up having to get a size 16 (mind you... I hadn't bought any clothes that were smaller than at 22) I did not expect to be in a 16... now I'm getting size 12! It's crazy. BUT, one thing I will tell you.... DON'T buy too many clothes in a smaller size just because it's thrilling. I have so many pants in size 16 becaue I went over board. Get just what you NEED. Try to find clothes that are a little tight, and have elastic bands. You will thank me when you are no longer in them, and still have money for the next size down! -
They know that the fills take several... but, the waiting is so your body can adjust slowly. They made me wait 6 weeks between fills even though I didn't feel any restriction till the third one.
-
You can drink right away.. yes, they do have one... but, they take it out a few hours after.

ARe any of you satisfied with your weight loss, when your DH isn't? I've lost 97 pounds... I am a size 14. Now that isn't in the obese range at all anymore. I'm happy with the way I am... but, my husband wants me to lose 30 more pounds. I'd like to lose it too, but... not as quickly as he wants me to. I've been dieting all my life, and I'd like to enjoy a few things now. I'm not talking about being able to eat a whole cake...but, I ate a few pieces of hershey's minitures on Easter, and my husband was all over it. I just want to tell him to shut up about it. How do you feel? When is enough enough?????
-
I know exactly what you are talking about... men think we tell them things to have them tell us how to fix it. We just want them to listen, and be supportive. Sfeiner... with me... if someone is critical of what I eat... I eat more! It doesn't work with me... and he knows it. My dad was just like that... and I would eat all the more to show them I could do as I pleased.

Two months post-op and having port site pain!
annielkd replied to illion's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded a year ago... for the first three months it hurt at times, getting up out of bed... moving a certain way. I still have it once in a great while when I do a sit up. It most likely is the muscle. However, you should talk this over with your doctor if it concerns you. -
Thank you all who posted. I think I actually had a MUCH bigger issue. I talked to him about it last night. I didn't know I felt this way... but, I felt that he didn't really desire me. I actually wanted him to say I was pretty, or good looking or whatever... and all he was doing was being negative about my progress. I do get tons of comments from other guys at work... and I do know that other men find me attractive... but, I wanted a positive response from him. I told him all this (how I felt he didn't desire me) and we discussed it. I told him to give me a number of 1-10 of how attractive I was... and I was fine with his number. (Of course Angelina Jolie was on the TV and I told him that he can't give her a 9!!!!!... she's an over the top)... so I told him to rate me according to someone my age (42) and not compare me to a 20 year old hard body. He said I was a 7 or 8 (I know I'm more of an 8 or 9)... but, that's good. I had told him he acts like I'm a 2 WAY too much. So, my getting mad at him about what I was eating, was because he acts like I'm a big fat ugly slob.... and THAT isn't acceptable. Once in a while we all need to know we are beautiful!

I always have an issue with this after a fill. I can drink with difficulty for 3 days... then for about a week I can only eat mushies. It really puts me in a good place becasue I lose about 5-10 pounds... then it's like starting all over again. This will be up to you. If you can't get down liquids, and you are sipping, sipping, sipping... then go for an unfil. If you CAN sip... but, you just don't get around to it... make more of an attempt to sip... and wait a few days.

Thanks everyone. I'm still in the overweight range.... so I think what you are all saying is right. I did blow it... I knew I blew it... and I really should work to get into the healthy range... it's really not that much more. I'm not worried right now about health concerns... and since I could do everything I want to do activity wise... I was kind of just tired of dieting. I think maintenence is too early right now. I made another appointment for a fill... I know I'm a little loose right now. I was just thrilled I could eat normally and not gain right now. Robin... thanks for the offer! Bubblebutt... your advice really made a difference. I'm not in the healthy range yet... then I'll go into maintenence!!!!! You all are great!!!!!

Thanks for your support. I was never thin (or even really healthy)... my best weight was 165 in college. I would like to get there...but, I've been over 200 for most of my life. So this is awesome! I'm going to talk with him tonight.
-
I don't tell him to shut up becasue I know I shouldn't eat it... but, I wanted to... so I did. He has been with me for years watching me put it on. I'm sure he was just saying it to make sure I don't put it on again. HOWEVER, I'm kind of happy with where I am right now. He wants me to lose more so I have more of a cushion to fall back on if I gain weight back again. I do plan to lose more... but, once in a while.. I just want to be normal. AND there is NO one who can tell me that they don't sneak/snack/desert once in a while. You stats are very similar to mine... I started out at 288 for surgery... I'm 192 now... yes, I'd love to be 30 pound lighter... but this is still good. How much more do you want to lose? Would you be satisfied at 190?

HELP!!!!!!!!!! I am losing my long hair by the handful.
annielkd replied to Freebird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor said it was because of the stress from surgery and the rapid weight loss... your body is in shock mode. I lost a considerable amount of hair... and it wsn't due to loss of protein. It will get better. The BEST advice I heard and used was to wash my hair daily. If you do some research on this site, you will see that someone even suggests a shampoo. Actually washing my hair daily did help. -
I just eat peanuts... any kind works for me! I believe it's a great snack... has ton of fiber and works the next day!!!!! Try it! :grouphug:
-
I read that some of you still drink it... does it hurt.. I'd love to try a bit! I really do miss it. It's been almost a year for me.. and I miss Fresca.
-
Here is some better advice... MAKE the brownies yourself. I did. I made them with unsweetened dark chocolate... splenda... Soy Protein Flour, walnuts, Flaxseed oil... and sugar free pudding mix. That way if you MUST cheat.. you are actually doing it with a protein bar!!!!! But, you are right... the restriction does change. I've found that if I don't eat past 6:00 then the next day is much tighter... try that!

Doc says, "It won't work unless you make a lifestyle change"
annielkd replied to angelsoul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First... you will be forced to change your lifestyle. I just have one question for you... do you eat because you are HUNGRY... or do you eat sweets because you like them. If you said you eat because you are hungry... the band will be a HUGE help for you. If you like deserts, and candy... you will NOT be able to find success from the lap band... because you will STILL be able to eat those foods... and you won't lose any weight. I couldn't change my lifestyle till I did lose weight... now I can and do work out. Sometimes just losing the weight helps keep you motivated. The real question is.... are you willing to change the way... and WHAT you eat? -
Just had my 1st fill -- need advice from old timers
annielkd replied to ericab's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Every time I get a fill, it's very difficult for almost a week... I have tight restriction. When I get the fills I know it will take a while to eat solid foods, and I know which ones I can tolerate at first. You do NOT want to PB though... try to eat slowly, eat soft foods, and then in a few more days, increase the consistency of the food you eat. Take it slow.
