My wieght loss has WAY slowed down... it's about 1 1/2 pounds a week.... is everyone having that problem? It shouldn't be that way with only 700 calories a day. How's everyone else doing?

Help for hair loss!
annielkd replied to vikequeen1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, even if you are getting enough protein the body is in shock. Believe it or not, you can wash your hair more frequently, it helps! -
I had an infected throat that caused this to happen.. but NOT from surgery. I needed antibiotics. I would suggest going to your general practicioner to see if you need antibiotics. Eating cold things did help with it.... but, it was soooo weird.

Liquid Protein 42gms per 3oz
annielkd replied to whaletail's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just so you know... you can still have hair loss even with the perfect amount of protein. I lost hair, and the doctor said it went with rapid weight loss, not just protein deficiency. The body goes into shock from the weight loss. It does come back in though! -
Pre surgery diet...can I do it?
annielkd replied to Idgett's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't get anything. BUT, just think that you will have a much easier time in surgery if you do it. I ended up having a tiny bit of cheese before bed, just so I could sleep. -
Curious: An example of a days worth of food-after being banded?
annielkd replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat way more than all of you. I have two bottles of water in the morning before breakfast... Breakfast: Protein bar Lunch: whole can of tuna... or sometimes a small chilli at wendies... usually about 6 oz. Afternoon: Water... sometimes milk. Supper... about a 6oz size of something. Chicken does NOT go down easy for me. I like hamburg... At night I usually have some cheese, and I'll also have 2 dark chocolate pieces with peanut butter on them. Lately, I've been eating more, but I had an unfill and it's not restricted. But, that's what I had mostly ... and I would lose about 1/2 pound to 1 pound per week. -
By the way Delo... you look fab! Is anyone else is shock that a year has gone by (it flew) and that we are all new people? I lost the weight... got new clothes... cut my hair short short... (It was long and stringy before)... most likely changed my attitude too. I'm a new person in a year! Who would have thought!!!!!!

I actually don't know where or when I want to stop. I've talked it over with my doctor... I would like to lose about 25 more pounds... he said I'm at goal weight... my husband said 15... so we will see. If I don't lost any more at this point.. I'm fine with it. BUT, 10 pounds would get me down to a size 10/12... and I'd love that!

Today is my band Aniversary... 100 pounds lost... who would have thought! Congratulations everyone!

Need advice on dialogue with my brother
annielkd replied to general_antiope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You want to help him, because you know the band might work. I can understand your concern. When he talks about the diet, or working out... just say... "do you truely want to change your life? or do you do this because you think other people think you should?" that will open the door for the discussion. Many people diet or work out because they think other people expect them to... but, they personally don't want to. He may be doing this (half heartedly) because he wants to make other's THINK he's trying... without really investing in it. Open the conversation... then dive in. -
I was banded a year ago... I was eating soft FISH... and small bites at that. It got stuck. I was sooooooo sick. I went to the emergency room (Hartford CT) I was in the hospital for hours... they had a hard time finding the needles... and finding someone who could do the unfil. Honestly, at that point I was so sick I could have/would have done it myself. OR if I had the needle with me, it would have made it easier. I would love to have a needle just in case of an emergency. Getting stuck with fish was unexpected. Throwing up over and over till I hurt so badly was horrible. I'd love a needle to keep with me in an emergency situation. YES, I do think I could do it to save me hours of agony. I'm going to ask the doctor about it myself!

I actually saw this because of your name Mine's Ann D. too! I'm losing slowly now... for me I might not be motivated enough right now.

Need advice on dialogue with my brother
annielkd replied to general_antiope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
But, my real question is... did he say you needed to lose weight... mentioning you singing in a beautiful dress does not mean "I'm worried about you sister, your weight is too high, it's going to end up killing you." I'll bet anything that you've already told him that he looked better before, and I'll bet you've mentioned losing weight too. He needs to find himself. If you have already told him of your concern... I wouldn't do it again. People who were previously fat, harp on people who gain weight. -
Honestly... I ate WAY too much. It did help. Right now I've had an unfil... and I've gone right back to eating too much. I've realized that I will NEVER be able to not have the band. I'll gain it all right back again. I'm a pig... I eat way too much, and I was always starving. I did change what I ate, you don't really have a choice about that. It does work. I personally believe that you start losing weight (and it's hard) and then you are motivated to do more. I couldn't exercise till I lost weight... and now I love it. The more you lose, the more you can do. It's like a win/win situation. It's not like a machine or a diet, because you don't really chose it. Yeah.. you can eat the wrong foods, like cake, cookies, and ice cream... but, if you are fat because you just eat too much... this will work for you. If you are fat because you eat the wrong food, then it might not. You can still snack all day on fatening foods if you want... but, if you want to lose weight, this will HELP you restrict the amount of food. AND if WORKS!

Need advice on dialogue with my brother
annielkd replied to general_antiope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only thing you can do is share your concern. Just becasuse you were ready for this... does not mean he is. If you talk to him about it, he's going to think that you are only doing this because you are so in to the lapband. You can ask him what his doctor thinks about his weight. What did he say when you were the heavy one... and he was thin? Did he ever talk to you about your weight. If the answer is no... then all you can do it tell him you are concerned. I would not write a letter, I would keep it casual. -
Shelly.... I was banded about a year ago... I've lost over 100 pounds. It was a struggle... it was tough. I even recently had to go to the emergency room to have a complete un-fill because fish got "stuck". Even with that... and all the challenges... I would do it again in a heart beat... without even thinking about it. I couldn't keep weight off. (Sure I could lose 40 pounds... but, then I'd gain 50)... I was creaping up on 300 pounds... it's wonderful for people to meet me and never know I was so heavy. I love being "normal"... and having people look me in the eye at a store. I love having men hold the door open for me now. I love it when I make a mistake (like having my pocketbook strap stuck in a door) and I laugh, and other's laugh with me.. .instead of scowling at me because I'm a dumb fat woman. I love the way my boss thinks I'm working harder because I just look better. I love the compliments on my clothing. I love the way that people include me now. You will hate the band sometimes... we all do. You will hate not being able to eat things sometimes. BUT, when your journey is moving along well... you will be able to live life "normally"... and you will thank the lap band everyday!

When food has gotten "stuck" and you've had to have an emergency un-fill... how much fill did your doctor put back in... and what was the fill schedule from there. I had 6cc's removed and yesterday I had 4.5 put back in. I have an appointment for next Tuesday... and I was wondering if that was going to be too soon. Can any tell me what they went through?
-
They don't do them under fluro... I was supposed to get an upper G.I....but, I wasn't able to take off another day from work. (They wanted me to do it the next day) I feel good right now.. WAY too hungry. So, I am going to keep the appointment for next week.

sometimes the port moves with your body... if you gain muscle or something like that. Mostly your SKIN is moving... that changes and drops as you lose weight. When you get fills later you will see that they move the skin around to find the right spot.

Ok This 2 shake and 1-meal a day crap is really hard...
annielkd replied to mstrina27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just so you know... this too shall pass. I thought that the 2 weeks before surgery... and then for about 4 weeks after, were the toughest weeks I've ever gone though. I was still hungry for months... but, it gets better as you go along. Eventually, you will not be starving. HANG IN THERE!!!! -
Ang... I think that in life everything is about consequences. I do have treats... I wish I could say I don't... like the others. HOWEVER, I've lost most of the weight I wanted to lose, and I make sure that I'm still losing slowly now (1/2 pound -1 pound a week) My doctor was ready to put me on maintenance... but, I said no... I'm not ready for that. I'm not sure what his maintenance plan would be... but, I'm happy working out... restricting my eating to good food... and having a small treat almost daily. NO, I'm not eating a whole pie... but, I do have icecream, or maybe a dark chocolate with peanut butter. Should I be doing this... NO... did I do this a year ago when I got the band... NO... but, I do now. If I see the scale go up... OR not go down... I cut out any treats. The reason I do have the treats I love is because I'm not having a consequence from it. If you are not losing... then that's the consequence. It all depends on what you want, and what you are willing to do to get there. Will I be happy for the rest of my life a size 12/14... YES! So, my eating a treat isn't a consequence for me. But, is it a consequence for you? If it is... then you have to think if you TRUELY want a change. Some people don't really want to change, and they do things like this to sabotage what they "think" they want. Ask yourself.... do I want to lose weight?

Very Bizzare Thing Happened!???
annielkd replied to realmccoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I've been told... and what I've seen.... they do have some fill that can not be accounted for due to the folds in the band filling in the first time... but, from that time on, they can account for everything that's in there. There should not be more absorption as you go along (it's plastic/rubber) and if it's a 1/2 cc less... something happened. So, he should be recording how much he's adding... and should be able to tell what's in there. I'm not saying that he should be checking it everytime (especially if you haven't had an issue)... but, he should be able to check it now. Plus, most doctors do check it because drawing out the liquid is the best indicator that they have the needle in the right place. I would ask him to check the level of the fill. Has he called back yet?????
