  1. Refarding recovery - I could not keep my eyes open for more than 15-20 minutes on day 2 post op. My body had a hard time processing the anesthesia and medications they gave me for extreme nausea and pain. That being said, day 6 I felt reasonably normal. My suggestion would be to bring someone with you to drive back or pay for a couple of extra hotel nights prior to leaving so you can get stronger and your head nice and clear.

    Postop Dehydration

Sess - just keep drinking!! I had issues the first few days and had to stay extra time in the hospital partly because The nausea was so strong I could barely do an ounce every 15 minutes. Each day it got better and now I am 12 days post op and can drink very well and get in all my protein and beverages. If you are not feeling well and and are not sure you are getting enough fluids in - assume you are not and make your focus drinking. If you are drinking as much as your body needs you should be getting up to pee every few hours so you should be getting some movement when you pee. As you can, walk a little further each time you have to pee.

    Sleeved on 4/12

Regarding coffee, my doctor and nutritionist said one week for anything hot or cold and of course it would need to be decaf.

    Constipation and burping

It does hurt a little when you pass gas. Normal. I know this is weird, but for me pickle juice helped move things and satisfied my craving.

    3 weeks out

Sleeved on April 3rd and down 22 pounds. I started walking day 5 post op (1-2 miles depending on how I felt) and have been very active. I have had 4-6 ounces of blended soup beginning day 8 and have followed things pretty strictly getting all my protein and water starting day 3.

I wish they made me nauseous! They make me think about food and what I want to eat. Not good.

    How long was your surgery?

A little over an hour and my 15 and 17 year old sons stayed the night.
  10. I am 4 days post op as well and had a bad reaction to the anesthesia (severe nausea and blood pressure spike). The day after surgery the nut had me do 2 oz of protein on the hour with 2 oz of hydrating every 15 min. It was waaaay to much and my nausea was getting worse even with aggressive treatment. The patient advocate came in and changed me to 1 oz every 15 and watered down the Isopure protein (I brought to the hospital - the Glucerna they served was horrific) to 1/2 oz with 1/2 oz water every 30 minutes. That was the turning point for me. Today is the first day I have not needed to take nausea or pain meds and life is looking up. : )
  11. Fingers crossed for you! I will be the day after on Wednesday.

    4 Months & 75 pounds...Pics

Look at those calves!! You are doing awesome!
  13. I am scheduled for surgery on April 3rd and am not very good at asking for help (even when I need it). Therefore, I am starting by asking for help in compiling a list of ways friends and gamily members can be helpful. A few dear friends are asking and I don't know what to say. Suggestions and ideas are very welcome! What are things your friends/family did or you wish they had done? Thanks!

They sell unflavored protein at the Vitamin Shoppe and GNC. I saw Premier shakes in a 4-pack at Kroger yesterday.

I just left my pre-op meeting with my surgeon and they said no NSAID's for the rest of your life once you have the sleeve.

    Cigna

My coordinator submitted on Tuesday but it was not "received" until Thursday. With larger companies it can take a few days to be officially processed and marked as "received" prior to consideration for approval. Of course, I was on pins and needles the whole time and then the day after they received it that department was closed for a companywide event. In the end, all is well and I am waiting to hear back from the doctors assistant regarding scheduling.
