Favorite UNFLAVORED protein powder?
asmaclare posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this has been discussed so I'm sorry for the repeat thread. HOWEVER, the search tool on this website is crap. When I search for unflavored Protein Powder, or even Protein powder it gives me NOTHING. Maybe I am doing it incorrectly? If so I would gladly be corrected. But I just want to know.... What's your favorite unflavored protein powder? To mix w/ Soups / broths / etc. Thanks! -
My program is outlined like this I'd everything goes well: POD 1 - Clear liquids POD 2 - puréed Week 1 - 2 - puréed Week 3 - soft Week 4 - slow introduction of everything as tolerated Has anyone else had a similar progression. How did it work for you? How much weight did you lose in the first month? I know everyone is different and experiences weight loss at different rates for many different reasons, but I curious to see if those who did liquids for 2 weeks then puréed for 2 weeks lost more weight! I want to follow my doctors instructions but I am sorta excited to to lose as much weight as I can in the first 4-6 weeks cause I have a trip coming up at about 5 weeks out and want to be more comfortable on the flights! Thoughts?

asmaclare replied to tlah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Water, crystal light packets, SF popsicles, SF pudding, a few Soups (butternut squash, tomato, and broccoli cheese), Gas-Ex strips, Primier chocolate shakes, GNC lean shakes, Palmer's, Vitamin water, Beef broth packets, vitamin E oil for scars / stretch marks, Palmer's cocao butter lotion. Still trying to figure out what kind of unflavored Protein powder to get. Suggestions? -
Pureed food from post op day 2
asmaclare replied to asmaclare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoops I posted twice. Please see the thread above this one! More detail. -
My program advances the diet very quickly. They give a puréed tray on day 2. If all is okay at 2 week follow up they advance to soft. Was wondering if anyone else's program was similar.

Favorite tracking app?
asmaclare replied to asmaclare's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Was just looking at my fitness pal. Question. I looked up canned tuna. The only thing I saw was the information for 1 can serving. Say I have 2 oz, do I just have to manually calculate by breaking down how much each oz is? Either by looking at the label or the info in the tracker? Or is there another way to see how much would be in each oz with that app? I can't see a way. An app that would do that would be very convenient! I suppose the easiest way would be just to have half the can at 2.5 oz and just divide all the nutritional info by 2. I just don't want to get into the habit of eating more food than I would otherwise bc of the more convenient math -
What can you expect before you have Weight Loss Surgery
asmaclare replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you I'm a week from surgery and hearing successful and encouraging stories is exactly what I need right now... I have small moments of freak outs where I think maybe I am doing the wrong thing... So this really helps! -
6 months weight loss
asmaclare replied to muneca1029's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yah mine was like that too. 6 months supervised diet, psych eval, pulmonary eval (although I'm. It sure thats for everyone as I have OSA), info session, attendance to 3 support groups (although I didn't do this bc it is at the hospital I work out so I didn't go for confidentiality reasons... Didn't want to see my patients there ) and 3-4 nutrition visits. -
6 months weight loss
asmaclare replied to muneca1029's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea I would try again and hopefully you'll get someone who knows what they are talking about. I have Medical Mutual and I called them and they told me exactly what I needed. However there is a weight management program that I went through (separate from the surgery clinic) that knew the ins and outs as well. Anyway my BMI was 39 w/ OSA.. But I also have HTN. -
When I first started thinking about WLS, I was only considering the band. I felt that it was the least invasive surgery in itself and I was very scared of the non-reversability of the sleeve and bypass. The only surgeon at my hospital where I would have the surgery left, and the sleeve and bypass were the only things that were offered. After 1 year I felt the urgency to undergo a WLS because I want to start a family soon and want to be as healthy as possible for my first pregnancy. My weight management doctor told me from the beginning she thought the sleeve was the best choice for me given my BMI at that time (41) because of the amount I had to lose as well as the least amount of complications. I also realized that no matter what WLS I had, I needed to make a committment to a lifestyle change FOREVER and the band would not provide that for me. The "not going back" aspect of the sleeve sort of makes me feel more accountable for this decision. I also have a very busy work schedule that is only going to worsen starting this summer and I did not think it would be feasible for me to do all the post-op fills / appointments required of the band anyhow. My weight management doctor also said that the sleeve and bypass have shown to be better tolerated in patients who go on to get pregnant. Also again with grehlin - a hormone that promotes hunger is likely to be markedly reduced in sleeve patients, and many report not having the same cravings / hunger urges prior to surgery. Good luck with your choice!

Tomorrows surgery got cancelled, iam PREGNANT!
asmaclare replied to alisha510's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Congratulations. I think it's normal to have mixed feelings about this. I am pressed to do this surgery right now because in 1-2 years time I do want to start a family and want to be as healthy as I can be. I think it would a difficult transition as far as mind set goes, because we spend so much time preparing for this one single day that will change our lives. However, finding out your pregnant does the exact same thing, in a much more profound way. I say congratulations to you! Focus on your health during your pregnancy and that little baby growing inside you! When the time is right, you'll come back to this path again! -
3 Days In and already down

Wow Burtie! That's craziness. I'm glad to see you're doing well -
I am seeing such amazing results in a lot sleevers who post here. I've actually been in awe while looking at some before and after photos! We love to see these so keep posting them! The most dramatic and inspiring stories are those with > 100 pounds to lose. It's really quite amazing. However I was wondering about those who have a little less? I'm estimating that I have about 80 pounds to lose. When I first started a year ago it was more like 130! I've been fortunate to be able to get around 50 pounds off before in the last year while I was considering surgery. Tell me what your experiences have been with a BMI < 40! (My current BMI is about 39 now)

Anyone that is having second thoughts about the surgery should read this.
asmaclare replied to Harpo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to see this post. I'm about 1.5 weeks from surgery. I keep having pre-surgery jitters and fleeting negative thoughts and worries about the surgery. It really helps to see these posts from people especially those that are still within a couple of months of surgery! Thanks -
Question for people who had the surgery WITH insurance.
asmaclare replied to Iniysa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have medical mutual. They pay 90% of any surgery. I pay 10% but only up to $500. I verified this with them twice. I hope there are no surprises. -

Congrats burtie! Keep us updated hope you're fling better with the gas pains! -
Just ask your PCP or weight management doctor!
-
Depending on how your program works you could be referred to see the surgeon before that. I don't think the insurance company really cares about when you see the surgeon. The 3 month monitored diet is just so that they can say you are committed to the process. (And you're lucky some insurance companies require 6 or 9 months!) Some doctors, though, won't even refer to the surgeon until after you've completed that requirement too because they may also want to know that you're committed.

Thanks! I'm not so much worried about the rate. It's just that I'm 5,9 and have a large build. My suggested ideal weight is 150-175. I have never ever been lower than 200 (and maybe 220!) in my adult life so I have no idea what to shoot for. I'm saying 175 and going from there.

We have a blender but I'm wondering if I need something with more options for my post op diet! I want something good probably my not much more than $40. What did you use? Any suggestions?

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
asmaclare replied to mmlucas77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
April 18! I have known and researched the sleeve for a while but made a very quick decision over the last 1.5 months to do it now. I'm 34 and want to have kids in the next few years and want to be as healthy as possible before we start. I feel very pressed for time. I hope to be at my goal weight or at least a healthy bmi for pregnancy. So while I've really been thinking about this and exploring the options I only just really decided on the sleeve. I had already been followed in a weight management program for that whole year! So when I finally said yes now is when I need to do it, it was a rather quick process to get all my requirements in. I wish I had found this site earlier because I think it would have been better to read everyone's experiences and see all the different outcomes over a longer period of time. I feel like I am guzzling all this information from a fire hose! It's been quite overwhelming, especially over the last few weeks. I feel the more I read and the more I talk with people here through the forum and on chat, the more nervous i am. That is not to say that people aren't supportive. Everyone is very open, honest, positive and encouraging. Does anyone else feel like this?? I want to focus on the excitement that is being overshadowed by my worry and anxiety!!! I think most the worry comes from the large lifestyle change that I have no idea about. I've been successful with weight watchers (for the last year) and Zumba (since oct) and down 50 lbs... But I still indulge and have bad days. And to be honest I like those days! And I've checked myself along the way so as not to gain but if I find I've leveled off, I step it up. I wonder why I can't keep going like this... It seems to be working albeit slowly. But then I remember that I have been doing this same thing and gaining it all back and sometimes more for the last 13 years. I realize that as long as I keep losing that I will need to eat less and less in order to keep losing and keep it off! Not to mention cravings and hormones that will always be there! And so I remind myself of this reality and think yes of course this is the right thing to do. In my head it all makes sense but my emotions always lead me astray.... I'm not 100% confident in my decision and some might be concerned by that. But I don't know that I could ever be 100% sure without knowing the future. What I am 100% sure about though is that I want to give myself the best chance to conceive at my age and the best chance for a healthy pregnancy and be healthy for my child(ren). Wow so after all that, which was an unexpected rant (sorry!!), i just wanted to again announce my date and confirm it loudly! April 18!!!!! And also ask to be added to the fb group! Asmaclare@gmail.com Thanks! And good luck to each and everyone one of you! <3
