    Preop diet fail

I started April 30. My surgery is May 14. I had one cheat meal. It was a luncheon that had been set up and paid for before I got the date. It was very expensive, so I thought 1 meal out of a total of 42 wouldn't be that bad. I chose baked fish and vegetables. Other than that, I have not cheated. I keep telling myself that good health is the end result. However, I have a constant headache, and I have not lost any weight. I know it's less than a week, but I thought I'd see something even a half pound would be encouraging, but nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? Not losing on pre-op diet?
  2. Hi, My story has a number of similarities to yours. I also hate the lap band, but fortunately, it has not caused asthma or anything like that. My doctor suggested I have the sleeve. He knew I had the lap band, and he told me the sleeve could get rid of a lot of other issues I had before the band. Issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. Within 2 days, I told him I wanted to go ahead with it. And he started monitoring my weight immediately, even before I found a surgeon. The surgeon he recommended didn't take my insurance, so.... I thought I'd go back to the surgeon who did the band and see if he would do the revision. What a horrible experience! he started by saying he didn't do the band anymore because it didn't work. and the fact that I didn't lose weight wasn't my fault. Then he proceeded to tell me to live with the band and maybe I could find someone to fill it. Like you, I couldn't find anyone to fill it for years, including him. He had moved on to doing the sleeve. So anyway the surgeon decides I should have an esophogram to take a look at the band. He told me it was fine, no slippage, yada yada yada. Then he told me how risky the revision was to the point of putting me in fear of death. I was (am still) so angry with that surgeon. What mixed messages he gave me. But at least I got the esophogram out of the way. I found a surgeon who takes my insurance, and I am very happy with her, but also nervous about the surgery. I would be nervous about any surgery though., My surgery is May 14th. I've started the 2 week fasting. (I'm so jealous of those who don't have to do this), but it's going okay. I just keep reminding myself of the healthy benefits. Very likely no more insulin. And oh yeah, weight loss. ) I feel so lucky to have my doctor. He told me "I will do whatever it takes to get this surgery for you." The thought of getting rid of that rotten lap band is another encouragement. It's been almost 10 years of misery with that thing. I think that if you trust your doctor, and he is reassuring you it is significant. My doc's opinion and support have been the single most encouraging thing for me. As nervous as I am, I am looking forward to life after the sleeve. I wish you the best.

Reading the responses is making me wonder how the band has affected me. I guess I'll find out when I get the sleeve. I just started the process. I feel tired a lot; I thought it was because I'm getting older. Now I can't wait to see what happens. I haven't thought about overeating with the sleeve because my understanding is that the difference between the band and the sleeve (in terms of eating) is the difference between feeling restricted and feeling full. My doctor agreed with me that it's a big difference. I look forward to feeling full. I know it will take some work and that I have guidelines to follow. However,I've had the same issues with the band as many others. I've thrown up water when taking pills on an empty stomach. So being able to eat even a small amount and feeling full seems much better than being hungry and unable to eat.

Hello, I have had sudden nausea too. I didn't pass out, but no one can tell me it isn't related to the band. I hate it. I'm starting the process for a revision. I'm nervous about it, but the thought of getting rid of the band and reading about others who are happy with their revisions is giving me hope.
