Has anyone read "Stranger Here" by Jen Larsen?

I read the book and had a similar reaction. My thought as I was reading was, "she isn't taking any of this seriously!" Her flippant attitude and consistent poor choices really irked me. I've read several people on this site say they really enjoyed it... However, I am not a fan.

Are you going to the hospital alone?

I sent my husband home. He gets anxious in hospitals and his being anxious was making me anxious, so once I was out of recovery, I told him to leave. It was good because I wasn't feeling up for much, just wanted to sleep, well walk and then sleep, then repeat. Once I got home I was fine taking care of myself. But I was very lucky to have an unremarkable recovery. I think everyone is different.

When can I take a bath?

Agreed! All docs are so different. I love soaking in a warm bubble-bath & specifically asked when a bath would be ok. They said I was fine taking a bath right after I got home from surgery, but to 1st make sure the adhesive glue was intact.

    I want pizza!

Thank you Laura, I was sitting here reading & thinking this definitely was not a healthy behavior.... Appreciate the stats behind why.

Well... The Truth Finally Came Out!

I am very lucky my husband didn't marry me for my cooking. He says he married me because I'm hot! I make 1 healthy meal and enough for 2. If my husband doesn't want or like what I'm having he can pick something up or make something for himself. IMHO: He is almost 40, has 2 hands, 2 feet, and quite capable. And, I am his wife, not his mom.

    "I'm praying for you!"

It sounds like you don't mind the phrase as much as you mind the not so subtle critique of your beliefs. That makes perfect sense to me.
  8. I had the same issue, people commenting I looked tired all the time. Ummmm thanks? I did decide I looked a little depleted in my face. Got fillers in the hollows under my eyes, my cheeks, and my smile lines. Feel better. If everything else is on point, it might be an option.

    Chia seeds?

I gel mine and then put them in my Greek yogurt w/little fresh fruit (bananas, strawberries, peaches, whatever I have around from the farmers market). I can't even taste that they're in there, but love that they're a superfood.
  10. Hello! I'm 5ft. 7 &1/2, had surgery Jan.14, 2013, weighed 200, 33 BMI. (A "light weight" to some)... However, started a pre-op diet last May 2012, weighing in at 255 with a BMI of 40. Currently, I'm at 161, 24 BMI (Super YAY!! In the "NORMAL" range)!!! And, I am only 6 lbs. away from my surgeon's suggested weight for me, (16 away from my personal goal of 145). That means I have lost 41lbs. since surgery. Does that make me sad or feel like a failure to be what others might term as a "slow loser," .... Heck no! I'm off my BP meds, able to jog & cardio hip-hop w/out feeling like I'm about to die, get back into old shoes that were too small for my expansive feet.... Just so many things. Mostly, the knowledge that if I continue making healthy choices I will be able to keep the weight off. That one thing is sincerely a major blessing and relief for me.
  11. Dropped 8 heaping bags off at the GoodWill last Sunday. It was hard giving up some of those outfits. (I spent a small fortune on stylish big-girl clothes). But, I will thoroughly enjoy replacing them once I get to goal!

    Hubby Doesnt Like Me Now

Maybe you could sit down with him and explain how his comments made you feel. He may not even realize he hurt you. This might be an opportunity for you to start a conversation about what you both need from each other to feel supported and loved in your marriage.
  13. I totally agree, thought you were always Mr. Super-Healthy-Man! What a transformation. You are truly an inspiration for us all. Thank you.

    Feeling a bit down today...

I feel you. We had surgery about a week apart and I am also losing hair. I have always had long, thick, curly hair. In high school they called me "curly sue." (Hence my name on this forum).... I (& others) always said my hair was my best feature, it's what I've been known for, so it's sad to see it go. And yes, I knew it would happen, just hoped it wouldn't be so bad... I guess my words aren't much of a "pick me up," sorry! I just wanted you to know you are not alone.

Ideas for what to tell people?

The question: what to tell people. I decided not to tell my co-workers because I know they look down on fat people, WLS in general, and are huge gossips. When asked about my time off I said I was "having a procedure done," and did not elaborate. One co-worker asked me if it was serious, and all I said was ,"it can be, but I pray I'll be just fine." I have 1 co-worker who constantly asks me (at least 3 times p/week) how much I've lost. I always respond "a bit." It seems to drive her crazy that I won't provide actual numbers . I have said, "you know, I really don't want to discuss it, it's personal" but she continues to interrogate me. She is a Huge office gossip and I know she is just asking for dirt not concern, (she has told me she is a size 4/6 so it's not like educating her on my WLS would help with her journey)... I guess my point is even with the best intentions sometimes I am forced to evade the truth. Does that make me a liar... Probably. And I'm fine with that.

    Sick of shakes

That's funny, the Isopure Alpine Punch tasted like cough syrup to me. I guess it's all just trial & error until we find one we like.

    So depressed

I am so sorry you ladies are feeling this way. I know this is a cliche but try talking to your surgeon or nut regarding how you are feeling. It sounds like a vicious circle: you can't eat or drink so you feel low energy and depressed which just makes you lethargic, making if harder to get up, eat & drink, and Live well. Something has got to end this unfortunate pattern for you. I'm hoping their help will do that. Anyway, my heart is with you. I'm glad you reached out. We are all here to help in whatever way we can.
  21. My scale is the same way! I usually take the lowest weight (my 3rd step-on). (At least I'm consistent with the way I'm tracking)! Makes me feel better if nothing else
  22. 0007Sleever, I had surgery in Jan. 2013 so I had the Dermatitis & allergies before surgery. However, I did not always have them so I totally understand how they can pop-up out of the blue. My Dermatitis did seem to get worse for the month or so after surgery. I think my system was so thrown-off by all the things surgery, that the Dermatitis was affected too. Happily, it has gotten better. But, I do try to prevent breakouts & allergy agitation by taking the Zrytec every night.
