  1. Don't push the protein right now. Focus on hydration. I fought the protein for a few days and realized I was fighting a losing battle and it was far more important for me, and you to focus on good hydration. When I added in protein around day 13 I had no issues hitting my levels and continue to maintain them 5.5 weeks out! Water Water Water.... Sip Sip Sip....
  2. The only time I spoke to my insurance company was to call and see if they had a response on my submission yet. My clinic took care of everything. If in doubt follow up! You don't want to regret it down the road. I felt very comfortable and confident with my clinic. They took my insurance information and called me and went over exactly what my insurance company covered and I did end up getting a letter from my insurance company, because the clinic asked for pre authorization on X amount of visits and they OK'd me up to 99 visits in 2013.
  3. I'm with Chase30.... I had pretty much nothing but water for the first 2 weeks. After horrid reactions to my protein shakes and overall feeling like crap I said screw it and I focused strictly on water. When I was two weeks out and released to softs I was ready and did great transitioning over to foods. As long as you are getting your fluids in, having days without food won't hurt you. If it lasts for long periods of time than that is another story.

  5. Had the same thing. It was gas, it lasted off and on for 3 weeks and just quit a couple days ago. Hot pads and simethicone help. Are you regular?
  6. I'm sorry you are frustrated but I find it ridiculous that they are assuming you have a slow metabolism and need to work out more. At 4 weeks I was around a 19# loss, and most of it came off in the first 6 days. I only lost 1.5-3# my 3rd and 4th week. Things slow down during this time. I'm now 5.5 weeks out and this past 7-10 days I'm down like 5#. How much protein are you getting? I take in 900-1000 calories a day 70+ grams of protein (no protein shakes at all) I'm getting some sort of exercise burning 250+ calories 5x a week (started at week 4) I'm not perfect by any means. I don't think you need to go to the gym 3 hours a day, you just need consistency and time. Stay off the scale (I weigh every Monday) start with proteins to to veggies if needed, avoid sliders and drink lots of fluids. Get activity, but don't go crazy and overboard. Do measurements, embrace your losses, no matter how tiny. Your body will catch up. A week or two ago I was sure I was the slowest loser ever, but it's moving again and more importantly... I feel better than I have in years!

    Swallowing pills whole

I have always taken my pills whole, and I even have one that is an extended release, but because of where it is absorbed or whatever it was OK'd by my surgeon.
  8. I didn't have hunger for a couple weeks. Now I get hungry and it makes me crazy.
  9. I have been able to take normal drinks since 5 days post op. 5 weeks post op and I drink like I did pre op.

    Drinking and eating

I drank like normal until my surgery and had no issues with the transition. I just push the cup away and wait an hour.

    catheter?

Mine was removed at 24 hours. I was quite thankful for it that first 24 hours. The removal was nothing, it was weird when I went for a walk with the nurse she just clipped it to her scrubs ha ha.... Took my urine for a walk. My surgeon said it is very important the first 24 hours, that it is one of the first signs of a complication post op. If your urine levels drop.... something might be up.
  13. I was around day 5. It isn't necessarily unusual. Do you feel like you need to go but can't? I wouldn't rush out and down a bunch of stuff but if you are uncomfortable you could do a couple of doses of miralax, it is easy and moves it along. You have to remember you have a lack of stuff in your system so when you were consuming a couple thousand or more calories you might go daily or whatever, but taking in a few hundred and having had surgery and narcotics is going to slow everything down. I actually got an app where I track it, just because I heard of so many people having issues post op. I didn't want to find myself trying to remember. My surgeon told me it could be nearly 2 weeks before I saw anything post op.
  14. I chew gum but if I had to pick the worst thing I did was last night. I ate one of those tiny things of ice cream that had like 2oz of ice cream in it and a few banana nut crackers with cream cheese on them. Unfortunately they were complete sliders and created absolutely no ill effect which in turn created more guilt. Not worth it, but I put them in My Fitness Pal and had to face the calorie overload.

    Pepper?

I've used all kinds of seasonings from the start. You should be fine
  16. I took regular pills from day 2 post op. I was even allowed Bupropion XL (which is an extended release but not broken down with stomach acid) I would just ask your surgeon what they want you to do.

    Pain on left side

I have had increased pain on the left side. I'm 4 weeks out and it has slowly gotten better. Heating pads help
  18. I was quite proud of myself. When I was a week into my pre op diet and 3 days before surgery I worked two days at a music event and it was loaded with burgers, deep fried cheese, deep fried cookie dough etc... I stayed on track over those 2 days. I ate, according to my pre op diet, one day I had a taco salad no shell (lettuce beef salsa and cheese) one day I had a naked sandwich. It's hard, but not impossible.

    Coming to US

How is your soft diet? I am on Fork soft/mush until week 12, but I can have things like grilled chicken and fish etc... Because I was bored I was looking in the area near your hotel and there is a Chick-fil-A close by and they have a grilled chicken nuggets kids meal available, which could be a great quick meal. You could hit up a Chinese restaurant and than you can get a chicken and stir fried vegetables. If you go to a Mexican restaurant maybe some ground beef, Beans and a little cheese. I absolutely agree that yogurt and cheese from the grocery store is a great idea! I know we all go at different rates but at this moment I get all of my Protein from food, I haven't had a Protein Drink in well over a week and I don't plan on starting anytime soon. A hint.... unflavored protein added to a greek yogurt, a half scoop combined makes it over 20g of protein!
  20. Had my senior photos taken today! I can see the changes! It is so great!!!

    Can't get my protein in

you are only 10days out don't be so hard on your self. I didn't even attempt protein until day 11-12, I completely stuck to water. I started adding in once I was released to soft/fork mush and I have had absolutely no issues since. Anyway I really like greek yogurt with half a scoop of unflavored protein powder. Bumps it up to over 20g of protein. I am 4 weeks out now and easily get in 80-90g of protein a day.
  22. I can drink unlimited fluids, I can hold around 5oz of yogurt. 2-3oz of solid protein or 4oz of a mix of protein/veggies. According to my paperwork I'm where I should be. I'm 4 weeks post op. My daily goal is 900 calories, <40g of Carbs >70g of protein and I hit it and have since 2 weeks post op. I eat 5 times a day.
