  1. Interesting..... I highly doubt it, but like unbesleevable1 said, people ask for their placentas and get them, usually, so I guess it never hurts to ask. You might want a back up plan request such as, can he take a picture....

    before and after

    Amazing! Congrats
  3. 11 days out and met goal for the first time today. I actually took in more grams of protein today than I have in the past 11 days combined. I tried at first and had bad lactose issues on days 5-6. I really focused on water, that was what my nutritionist, surgeon, PA, RN and this forum said to do. I did not want to get dehydrated. So I decided I would "eat" to not be hungry and focus on water. I have met or surpassed my water for the past 6 days, figured it was time. My goal now is 2 shakes a day (30g each) and whatever grams of protein I take from protein in my 1-3 meals/snacks remaining.

    Hunger + Angry = Hangry!

I was a total snickers commercial pre op..... Physically ill, shaky, starving, drama queen (my friend used to say she was going to stick food in her purse before we went out) and like you I am not diabetic. I have not had that once since surgery. I do get hungry (11 days post op) but never starving just know I need to eat.
  5. Oh man oh man it hit me like a brick wall on Saturday. I've never been in that much intestinal pain in my life! My nutritionist had me do a yogurt smoothie a day for a few days and add lactose back in and so far so good.
  6. 11 days. Its tolerable but annoying. Frustrating that they kind of brushed me off for a weekend. Oh well.
  7. I have the same struggle, I thin things down and still find myself gagging with different textures. Its even worse now because I have thrush and feel like I have swallowed a cotton ball, what is really irritating me is I called my surgeons office this am and spoke to the nurse twice and no one ever called me back. I just had a mini breakdown over it, I can't drink thicker liquids very well as it is and now I feel like I have a cotton ball in my throat and I actually gag when I cough and they didn't do anything for me. I guess if I am still pissed off Monday at my appt they may hear about it. They may hear about it regardless. I know that if it isn't painful that treatment is rarely done or even needed, but I am uncomfortable.... I don't want to be uncomfortable.
  8. I am 11 days post op, my pain and discomfort peaked at day 5 (last Saturday, and majority had to do with a bad reaction to the lactose in my shakes) My pain has been minimal since day 7. A majority of my pain now is related to my big incision and the muscle wall behind the incision. Tylenol has taken care of 99% of my pain. I have over half of my pain pills left. I am in full liquids, and going to soft foods on Monday for 10 weeks. If I had to decide right this moment if I had to do this again I would say absolutely without a doubt. There has never been a moment that I "regretted" it, but a few food related break downs that have been relieved with a lovely bowl of pureed soup he he.
  9. Day 5 was my peak for pain and discomfort, but even then I was never in excruciating pain and have never struggled to get water in. I hope you hear something soon

    Approved!

    wow! that is great!
  11. I had the same thing. The excitement died down a couple months in and I didn't feel quite as obsessive and before I knew it I was going to my final appt and than paperwork was being submitted and now I'm 10 days post op. The excitement ramped up again once my paperwork was being submitted.

    anyone have state medicaid?

Every state is different but I was approved in CO after meeting their guidelines and only had my co pays as detailed in my insurance coverage. So I did pay a co pay for everything, including per night in the hospital.
  13. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I am a nursing student and I did not want any student nurses working with me. It worked out that they came on the floor this week, a week after my surgery. I personally didn't want nursing students because the whole thing was very sensitive and I felt it would be awkward for me.

    I am freaking out!

Just remember everyone is different. I went into the OR joking with the surgeon and just chatting with the anesteologist. I came out of a dream and woke up and questioned if I had surgery. My pain medication was quite effective and I never struggled with uncontrolled pain. You also need to consider age, your youth will help in some ways too. Just remember to get moving ASAP and yeah it's going to suck but the more you do it the better you feel. You'll do great. I freaked out too, I look back now and wonder why I worried at all. Pain is temporary, your life is forever.
  15. Hopefully they already know but if not definitely let it known. They had me very well medicated. I came in with an ear patch from the night before and wore that 3 days. I took Emend, a very strong anti emetic usually reserved for those on chemo etc...3 hrs before surgery and again when I got Into pre op what was supposed to be 1 hour before survey and took 3 with hold ups. They kept Zofran going every 4-6 hours and I was sent home with Zofran and I haven't been nauseated once.
  16. What is your struggle? Is it pain? Gas? Are you constantly sipping? I know we are all different and each work differently. I was sleeved the 27th. I have been very aggressive with water, not so much with protein. The first week I made my focus on water, increasing hour by hour and day by day. My first day I took in 17oz I made a goal to increase that to 28oz the next day and all day I counted and divided and said 28oz over 16 hours is 1.75oz an hour. I hit 40oz that day. I have done that everyday since. Over the last 3 days I have taken in 65oz-70oz and today 104oz. 100oz was my goal. I easily took in a gallon pre op and I didn't want to get dehydrated. It isn't easy, but it will get easier. Consistency is key. Good Luck
  17. Haha. I'm in the same boat! I told my family if they loved me they wouldn't eat burgers and fries they'd have thinned down soup with me. They all looked at me and kept eating lol.
  18. Wow, that is crazy, that must have been very worrisome for you. The only thing my surgeon ever gave me second thoughts on was gastric bypass, he said he recommends it highly but wanted me to consider the sleeve. He did talk about his 0 leaks, 0 strictures, 1 mortality, a couple excess bleeders who needed transfusions. Following surgery I found out one of my friends has a brother who had bypass in June, by my surgeon, anyway I guess he ended up in the ICU for bleeding issues following his surgery. Obviously I didn't expect my surgeon to be like I had another one, but it did make me a little nervous, but I was already post op. It was a relief when I met with my surgeon again pre op after nearly 7 months and everything was still 0 though.
  19. The first thing my surgeon told me when I met him was how important it was to keep them informed. They said they knew I would have slip ups And that I needed to tell them and not come back a year later after gaining 75#. I am so sorry you are going through this but use your support system. Get your hand slapped, do you remember the days where you were an eager puppy wanting to please your surgeon? You need to face it head on and get back to that spot.

    It's horrible

This is going to sound terrible but no, hasn't phased me a bit. I actually made my family dinner and a cake a couple nights ago. If I cook it I don't tend to want it, I'm weird like that.
  21. I couldn't agree with you more. I honestly kind of worry about the lack of fats by eliminating so much. Everything in moderation. There are some things I just can't stand lower in fat, like cottage cheese for some reason.

    Pre-op diet and diabetes

I was thinking about being diabetic and post op. they monitored my blood sugar and I was always fine, but I just had my IV there for 36 hours. Do they give diabetics glucose in your IV if needed I guess?

    I miss my pain meds!

Are you getting up and around? I was done on the 27th and given 40 oxycodone and haven't even used half. I take Tylenol as needed (1-2 times a day) but I've been up and about since day 4 and at first it sucked but I think it's what helped with my pain. My only pain left is abdominal wall below my largest incision and its a 1/10, 99% of the time. I have also used a heating pad since the day I got home, it lived on me the first 48 hrs I was home and now as needed (note: don't fall asleep with it on I actually left marks, they faded but essentially I burnt myself) If you continue to be in pain I would call back and demand an appt at this point you should definitely be turning a corner. Do you know how many doses you had? I'm just curious if you used too much too fast and they are resistant to fill because of that.
  24. That is quite difficult. I am allowed pills, have been since day 2. I am not supposed to use straws. I can tell you what my nutritionist says.... 7 days post!

I've slept on my side since my first night home, day 3, the first couple nights you get in position and don't move but than its like it never happened. I am all over the place, I can sit up, roll over and sometimes I even get a treat.
