My coordinator had me schedule between 3-4 weeks apart. So my first appt was late Jan and I went every 3-4 weeks after with my final appt being June 17th. I needed 6 months and my first appt counted as month 1.

I would be more concerned about your surgeon having an issue with the anemia than anything. I have a girl in my support group who got up to her pre op diet and was called a couple days before surgery and her surgery was put on hold.

Two weeks tomorrow, my appt was today. I have lost 24# since the start of my pre op diet on 8/17 and 14# since surgery. I am doing quite well, achieving my water goal daily since 5 days post op and having now achieved my protein goal for three days in a row. I was moved from full liquids to fork soft/mushy foods, where I will be for 10 weeks. My surgeon was complimentary on my current success and implored me to not become a slave to the scale and to not let a number put me on an emotional roller coaster. He reminded me that should I follow the guidelines that there is no way I will fail at meeting my weight loss goals. Interestingly enough since the start I have lost 34# and according to my surgeons office I have lost 17% of my excess weight.

I have a 20# restriction for 4 weeks.

That's my new theme song and its not for a good reason. I guess protein shakes and I are not friends. I am dying, I was up at 4am with the worst gas pains of my life. I told my sister in law that I was going to be the Virgin Macy on "I didn't know I was pregnant" that or I had an alien making an escape through my stomach. This morning it happened again and I had a lovely bout of diarrhea, I've never been so happy to have that! It immediately eliminated the pain. I had 3oz of a protein shake AND it all started again. I know protein shakes can be a process but I don't know if I can deal with this every time. It's horrid.

Best and worst "compliments"

I'm only 2 weeks post op but my mom said "oh my gosh look at your face it has already gotten so thin, way to go" oh and first day back to school and one of my classmates said "your scrubs are already getting baggy on you" it was just nice that someone noticed even the little things. -
You say you can eat a whole cup at once, but why do you eat a full cup at once? Have you tried portioning out to half a cup and than stopping? Are you sticking to 6 meals a day or grazing? Still in the end I would like to point out that in 7.5 weeks that you have lost on average 3.4# a week that is amazing! In 6 months that is 88#.

From submission to approval was exactly 14 days with a week day holiday mixed in. My surgeon said that is the norm.

Are my expectations too high?
Macy6 replied to lilijo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to agree with everyone else. My bariatric office was very on top of returning calls, helping with appts etc. very frustrating -
My surgeon was quite adamant on meeting his goals. Paperwork not submitted until goal met. There was a girl who had RnY 2 months before me who had to loose 50 too. It seems like an overwhelming number but you are already 40% of your way done! You will be fine just hold strong.

I am almost positive my lab work included drug testing. It's been a little bit, but I am pretty sure I remember it on the results page as negative. They also didn't warn me, I went in for blood work and they sprung a urine test on me.

I was taking 10ml sips pretty soon after surgery, I had to drink a liquid Tylenol that was 45ml and it took me an hour. You probably won't need a full dose anyway, my oxycodone is 5mg tablets and I can have 10mg and I never did

Are we allowed pills?
Macy6 replied to LeanerLena5426's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed to swallow pills. I take a Prilosec capsule, two different antidepressants and Tylenol as needed. I've never had any issues. -
I feel ya. I gave up on protein until two days ago, only consumed what I needed to keep going during the day. When I finally took in 70g of protein, 2 days ago, I took in more that day than I had since surgery combined. Now I'm easily taking in 70g of protein and 70+oz of water. It will get better, I wish you luck.

^^^^ I agree! I didn't hit my Protein goal until yesterday at 11 days post op. I made it my ONLY mission to hit my Water goal as quickly as possible. I did it 5 days post op. I refuse to get dehydrated! I walked out of the hospital with 12# of water weight and lost it quite quickly. I hit 40oz the day after I was released and 44 the day after, than I hit 65-70-70-104-108 once I hit that 108oz and had been consistent I said "it's time for protein" my water intake dropped back to 75 the last two days with the protein intake (I have taken in 60g from Protein shakes and 10-20 from food source daily since) but I'm still doing well and now I'm getting my protein in. Do your body good, get and stay hydrated. A couple weeks with a lack of protein isn't going to hurt you and stay off the scale, it doesn't like that lack of protein.

26 days until my preop diet..
Macy6 replied to Juciilyps:)'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a countdown on my phone. I had 45 days when I set the timer and now I'm 11 days 14 hours and 15 minutes since my surgery (looked at my timer) time flies! Before you know it you'll be waking up in the PACU! -
Yes. Mine stopped around day 11 post op. not really sure what causes it.

How much Biotin to take to help prevent hair loss?
Macy6 replied to NMJG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 10,000mcg a day split over two 5,000mcg doses. -
I am surprised they didn't give you a start date on your existing prescription (zantac) I was allowed to start my existing prescriptions on day 3, but they were anti depressants.

I wasn't a huge soda drinker pre op, but when I have school (once a week) I would get a soda out of the vending machine. This last week I was at school, for the first time since surgery, and stood in the hall just staring at the vending machine. One of my classmates walked by, looked down the hall, kept walking, and came back, she walks over and puts her arm around my shoulder and goes "Come on, It's OK, you don't want it anyway" and we walked back to class lol

This is why im doing it
Macy6 replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely can relate... or how many times I have restricted myself from something and in turn caused myself to obsess about food until the point that I ate something... if not the item, in larger quantity afterwards. -
My family watches Food Network and Travel Channel food shows frequently.... They don't bother me, but apparently today I am hungry. We watched a special of hamburgers and now on BBQ. I guess I kept saying I wanted things because my mom looks at me and goes "Honey are you hungry?" and I think about it for a second and I am like well yeah kinda. She told me to go eat something, but I am mid protein shake so I trudge on and stare longingly at the food on the TV. I think I need to go for a walk or something...

What are the things you wish you knew before surgery that would have made after surgery easier?
Macy6 replied to morphinmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I took my own 2 piece PJs and fuzzy socks with the slip nubbies on the bottom. It felt great to get in my own PJs and socks. -
Day 3...psychological chalkenges
Macy6 replied to KCSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit mine around day 6... I had a mini breakdown to my sister in law. 90% of the time I feel great, the 10% seems to be overwhelming at times.
