    Have anyone of filled yourself.

I think comments like "stop the insanity" might be considered pretty negative. But we really don't intend to sound "mean" or "prejudiced". You asked a question and we gave you honest feedback. Sorry if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Why don't you pose your question to our resident expert, Dr. C? He can give you the benefit of a professional opinion. If you want one, that is. If you are looking for cheerleaders, you probably won't find them here. Sorry 'bout that.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. "They" could be right.
  3. You are absolutely correct in your assessment, Green. But Mousecrazy and others like her want to sweep all that under the rug with statements like, "But we ARE in Iraq, and since we're there, we have to DO something." To which I say, no....we don't. We can tiptoe out the same way we came, and quietly shut the door behind us. Yes...I know the new government will topple without us there to prop it up, but that will happen anyway. It's not a question of IF, but only WHEN. Remember, we tried this same old tactic in Vietnam and it didn't work there, either. He who ignores history is doomed to repeat it. Evidently George Bush is dead set on ignoring the mistakes made by previous administrations. At our expense. And that pisses me off.
  4. I would say it's a highly descriptive term that implies much, while saying little. By the way......I love it!!!!!!!!

    Secret? Yes or No.

I told everyone....still do. Last night I told the girl at Starbucks. I don't care what anyone says. It's hard to argue with success and being up-front about it keeps you motivated. "It's the easy way out", shrug shoulders and say, "I'm all about easy." "Only cheaters do that", shrug shoulders and say, "I was already cheating, but with cheesecake and pizza. What's the difference?" "It's dangerous", shrug shoulders and say, "So is obesity. What's your point." "Are you allowed to eat that?", shrug shoulders and say, "Yes. Can I see your food police ID, please." "How much have you lost?", shrug shoulders and say, "I don't know. My doctor said don't play the numbers game." Relax....it's not all about you and within a few weeks something else will come along and provide grist for the gossip mill.

    The (Living) Death Penalty

Executions are always years away from the trial, even the swiftest ones. Texas law provides an automatic appeals process for anyone who received the death penalty. And those wheels turn very slowly.

    The (Living) Death Penalty

The article said it costs $65.00 per day to keep an inmate on death row in the Texas penal system. So I guess that's a bargain (tongue planted firmly in cheek). There is no telling how much we have spent on this one man over the years for appeals, etc. His case has been overturned and re-tried several times - strictly on technicalities relating to the sentencing phase. There was never any question about his guilt. There was never, of course, any attempt to rehabilitate this man, as it was understood from the beginning that he would never get out of prison. But he has come to terms with what he did and makes no excuses. He said, "Yes, I was young, but from the time you're six years old, you know right from wrong." He does believe that each day of life is a blessing but thinks he truly has paid his debt to society. He went to prison as a 20 year old in 1976. He's never seen a computer, an ipod, a cell phone, or a CD. E-mail and the Internet sound like science fiction to him. When he went to prison, Gerald Ford was in office. And time will continue to stand still for him until his execution, which is supposed to take place within a month, but who knows? This man's crime was horrible - he beat a man to death with the stock of a shotgun - but how many killers serve 31 years? Not many.....
  8. And our continued presence in Iraq would prevent this type of terrorist act HOW, exactly? The physical conquering of America is not their goal. They know that is impossible. They are happy to kill as many of us (Infidels) as possible. They believe they will be rewarded in heaven for that. All extremist Muslims believe alike, but they have too many cultural differences to band together against us or anyone else. All of the attacks you mentioned may very well have been carried out by Muslim terrorists, but not the SAME Muslim terrorists - not even the same group of terrorists. The one thing we had in common with Saddam Hussein was that we both hated Osama bin Laden.

You're wrong about that, too. I have the 10 cm, 4 cc band and have had 8 or 9 fills, plus a couple of unfills. My husband has the VG band and he has actually had fewer fills than I have. Most doctors do fills .5 cc at a time in people with the smaller band.

His doctor may never know, unless there is a problem. Mine doesn't keep a record of how much fill I have. But if he finds out, who knows what his reaction will be. My doctor would not continue to treat me, of that I am certain. The Huber needle is non-coring, meaning it does not take a chunk out of the port material each time it goes in/out.
  11. Carlene

Who's on your "what if" list?

Jim, you bad boy, teasing us like that! You have no idea how much we appreciate it, though. Right, girls?

My surgeon is banded. I asked him if he did his own fills. He said "No, and I wouldn't take out my own appendix, either." As for the needle, you are asking for trouble if you don't use a Huber needle. If your doctor didn't use one, then you need to find yourself a new fill doctor. It's your body and you are certainly within your rights to do whatever you like with it, but I personally think the cheese might have slid off your cracker, hon.
  13. You and me both, Green. The attack on the WTC was a senseless act of cowardice. It got our attention, for sure. But it was not the precursor of a Muslim invasion. There is no unified Islamic enemy that we must be on guard against - just pockets of terrorists that will still be around after the war in Iraq is over. We could occupy Iraq until Hell freezes over and it would not effect those cells of fanatical Muslims either way. Iran is not going to declare war against the USA. They are not crazy. Even with the help of Chavaz, they could do little damage to us. They can hurt us more by way of cutting off our supply of oil than by any military action.
  14. My surgeon has a patient who has lost 150 pounds and never had a fill.

new and seeking advice re removal

If you have your band removed you will be able to eat everything and anything - just as you did before you were banded. You will most likely regain the weight you have lost, but it's your choice. Would you rather eat, or would you rather be a normal, and healthy, weight?
  16. Well, evidently we are. Or maybe the right-wingers are just suffering from a case of guilty conscience, considering all the "no good" we've been guilty of ourselves in the past. Didn't we have some clandestine meetings with the Contras? How about when we trained Osama bin Laden to fight the Russians? Oh, wait....I fogot! We're the good guys!!!!!! We don't have to play by the same rules as everyone else, do we?
  17. Haven't forgotten that this is the Bush-haters thread, but you will have to be more specific. I'm old, remember?
  18. WASHINGTON, Jan. 11 — President Bush threatened on Thursday to veto legislation that would require the government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to obtain lower drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries.
  19. My only quarrel with using private contractors is the no-compete way that Halliburton was awarded the work. It should go to the lowest qualified bidder.
  20. Huh???? Which terrorist attacks on the US have had any ties to Iraq or Saddam Hussein? Just because Iraq is a Muslim country does not mean that they are plotting to attack us. Saudi Arabia is also Muslim, as is Kuwait. Why are we not occupying those countries as well, if we are "under continued threat" from "Islamic fundamentalist terrorists". And why haven't we sent hundreds of thousands of troops to unearth Osama bin Ladin, the world's number one fundamentalist terrorist? Stay strong in the national arena???? We are the most despised country in the world. We are the biggest bully on the playground. Our WMD are good....everyone else's are bad...because WE say so, that's why. Do you seriously think this is a possibility? If every Muslim in the world came together in a united attempt to conquer the United States, it would still be like a flea crawling up an elephant's leg with rape on his mind. We DO have WMD....and we aren't afraid to use them. I have a son and a DIL who work for Halliburton (KBR) and they are perfectly nice people, too. My son was deployed twice to Iraq and his wife just returned from Afghanistan. That doesn't change what I said earlier. Those contracts were awarded in a very shady manner, the work is often shoddy (mostly due to the poor performance of locals, who steal more than they work), and it's costing US taxpayers an unconscionable fortune. I never said that people who work for military contractors should quit their jobs. I said it's they, not US troops, who are rebuilding Iraq (and Afghanistan). As for them being protected and assisted by the troops, let me just say one thing.....somewhat. There is often a lot of ill-will between the troops and the civilians. And the civilians, by the way, are not allowed to have weapons in their possession, so they have to rely on the military for protection. America failed in Vietnam and yes, there was a bloodbath following our retreat. But it would have been no worse had we left 5 years sooner, and many American lives would not have been lost. I call that a victory - not a military victory, but a victory nonetheless.
  21. Uhhhhh, no....that would KBR (Haliburton) and other corporate giants who are doing the "rebuilding" in Iraq. In return for huge profits, I might add. This is, in fact, the first war to ever involve civilian contractors to anywhere near the extent they have been utilized in Iraq (and Afghanistan). Americans are rebuilding Iraq (and Afghanistan) only in the sense that WE (the taxpayers) are footing the bill. By Ellen Knickmeyer Washington Post Foreign Service Monday, April 3, 2006; Page A01 BAGHDAD -- A reconstruction contract for the building of 142 primary health centers across Iraq is running out of money, after two years and roughly $200 million, with no more than 20 clinics now expected to be completed, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says. The contract, awarded to U.S. construction giant Parsons Inc. in the flush, early days of reconstruction in Iraq, was expected to lay the foundation of a modern health care system for the country, putting quality medical care within reach of all Iraqis. Rebuilding Iraq -- The Contractors Even before the war in Iraq began March 20, the Bush administration was considering plans to help rebuild the country after fighting ceased. According to news reports in early March, the U.S. Agency for International Development secretly asked six U.S. companies to submit bids for a $900 million government contract to repair and reconstruct water systems, roads, bridges, schools and hospitals in Iraq. The six companies -- Bechtel Group Inc., Fluor Corp., Halliburton Co. subsidiary Kellogg, Brown & Root, Louis Berger Group Inc., Parsons Corp. and Washington Group International Inc. -- contributed a combined $3.6 million in individual, PAC and soft money donations between 1999 and 2002, the Center reported on its news site, CapitalEye.org. Sixty-six percent of that total went to Republicans.
  22. It is, indeed, a great country. Did you work for a civilian contractor, Maggie?

    Hair Loss

My hair started shedding about 4 months post-op. My surgeon said "lack of protein", but upping my protein didn't help. Neither did Biotin. So I asked my PCP. He checked my thyroid. It was fine. Then I consulted a Dermatologist. He said he sees a lot of this with WLS patients. It's the weight loss, he said. Give it a year. It might grow back. Then again, it might not. It's been 2 years and my hair isn't shedding like it was, but it hasn't all come back, either. Some people don't lose any hair, though. Or at least they don't notice it. My Dermatoligist said you can lose a LOT before you even realize it.
  24. Jodie....your posts don't make me feel "attacked". I was just making the point that while you were busy chastising me for not documenting my information, you failed to document your own. Believe it or not, I respect your views on the president and his foreign policy (misguided and lame though it may be....LOL). I am VERY impressed by your interest in current events and your choice of Political Science as a course of study. I wish there were more young women in this country like you. Keep an open mind, Jodie. Be true to yourself first and any political agenda second. Remember that Hillary Clinton was once a Goldwater girl. You too can be forgiven for your misspent Republican youth....LOL.
