The bad and the ugly
luckysmomma replied to Autumnrain1908's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Best of luck to you on whatever you decide. I highly recommend making Weight Watchers. Wls, in my opinion, is for extreme circumstances. No matter how much you think you have read, researched, are prepared, etc etc...you don't know what you have gotten yourself into til you wake up from wls. Mental & emotional aspects of this are tougher for some. Protein shakes are not good (well, that is my opinion on them), but if you don't get in the protein you don't lose as well. Your new normal is difficulty in drinking & eating for the rest of your life. Sipping, or feeling the bad effects of a normal drink - is your new normal. Bathroom issues - contispation or the other - your new normal. Gall bladder & other health issues can be side effects. I stay dehydrated now! Skin issues and possible other surgeries may be in your future. Hair will shed & fall out even if you do everything right. Your sense of taste & smell may change. You will burp, fart, gurgle, and other strange noises anytime you drink/eat with good choices and especially bad choices. You will look at food differently. You will have to make changes in your lifestyle you may not want to make especially around family & friends. You may not feel like yourself. Because of the possible difficulties of drinking/eating, you will end up thinking about food choices more after surgery than you did before surgery! Even though you have wls ..if a person doesn't still exercise & make good food choices...you can and will gain weight even after wls. I wish you all the best! -
5 months out with stones
luckysmomma replied to montugue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think gallstones & gall bladder issues are possible side effects of wls. I remember signing forms that stated so for my doctor prior to surgery. I hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted. -
So awesome! Congrats!!!

4 months out here, no complications, and 75+ plus lbs gone...regret is very normal in the first few days and even weeks. How could anyone not have moments of regret in such a situation? Most people get through it & love their new way of life. There is a teeny tiny minority like myself who regret it & do not love their new way of life....I have truly regretted it the moment they wheeled me out...but there's no going back. I am working toward peace & acceptance in this terrible decision that I made each & every day through just self-talk, walking, praying, logging on here and becoming more knowledgeable about this sleeve of mine, and just sucking it up...'cause what is done is done. I do not recommend wls unless extreme circumstances. Mine was keeping my mobility. I highly recommend Weight Watchers & walking. ...and to those who want to say all the crap to me about my feelings of regret- do me a favor? Just don't this time, ok?...please & thank you. Best of luck to you! Do what is best for you and your situation.

Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
luckysmomma replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
1. Improved mobility - which was my # 1 goal with wls 2. I am off blood pressure med, water pills, and anti-depressants now -
Awesome! Congrats! Also, known as the 'magic mike' line...

MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT!
luckysmomma replied to shelly13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Biotin 10,000, prenatal vitamins, Biotin/Collagen Organix Shampoo/conditioner (purple bottle Walmart), slow down on styling products & tools...good luck to all of us with this!! -
Hang in there. What you are going through is normal ....it gets better! I won't lie - the first month is pure hell for many of us, but it gets easier. Focus on fluids, protein, and walking...there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Eat and drink slower than slow! Best of luck to you!

We all have a chance to start over each & every second of our lives, if we choose to. I am not certain what posts & threads you are referring to above because I only click on posts that catch my attention or are of interest to me, but - in my opinion - you shouldn't apologize for feeling whatever it is you are feeling. Life is tough. WLS is really tough. These online sites can be really, really tough. People can be mean, intentionally & unintentionally. My advice - learn the screen names of those who are negative to you on here - then, when you see a post by them...scroll on past their comments on whatever thread you are on. That's what I do - it makes my time on this site much more enjoyable & helpful. As far as being out & about - I hear what you are saying about friends & things - make new friends, go out, join a book club, join a bowling league, take a dance class, etc etc...Best of luck to you.

To tell people or not to tell people: please answer
luckysmomma replied to freakinfitfoodie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told no one about my surgery. I didn't want to worry family & friends. And honestly, people can be mean, intentionally and unintentionally. My health is really no one's business. I am single with no kids, so it has been easy. Everybody thinks I am doing WW and gym again (which I am) for the gazillionith time. Once you tell someone, there's no taking it back...so, my advice is to think long and hard before you tell anyone. -
Be honest - does anyone regret the surgery?
luckysmomma replied to TvlGrl712's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, I regret it. I have had no complications except dehydration & I have lost 72 lbs...and I am just over 15 weeks out... I move more toward peace & acceptance with this terrible decision each day, but there's not a day that goes by that I don't wish life had a rewind button... but most people love their sleeve & love their decision to have wls. I am in a very small minority that happen to not love their love & not love their wls decision. Best of luck to you.
