My advice ...find a protein shake now that you like (which isn't easy for some of us), find an exercise routine you can stick to, quit the soda/start the water, and research as much as you can...I am in a teeny tiny minority here..I do regret the surgery. I haven't had any complications except dehydration & the hair loss; I have lost 80 plus lbs & I'm never hungry or thirsty (which will not last forever). My regret is more emotional/mental, I guess. I am not me, eating and drinking this way. I miss me. My life is not & will never be the same again, with family & friends & social occasions. I miss my old life. I am a food addict. I am an emotional eater. Surgery doesn't take any of those kind of issues away in any way. I prepared for a year for surgery...thought I was ready...but woke up regretting it. I am nearing 5 months out now or so...and my regret is real. Now, most do have initial regrets after surgery, but it usually goes away in a short bit. Some more advice...right after surgery - make yourself sip (you won't feel like it, but do it anyway) and make yourself walk (again, you probably won't feel like it, but make yourself do it anyway). I always post about my experience when a new person has questions about regret because there are a teeny tiny few of us who do regret it, and I think someone considering wls needs to be informed on both. Best of luck to you! Wish you all the best!

One year and at a normal weight!

I am 5'10"...decided on 175 (I can go to WW free when I get there & maintain it for a bit)...the lowest I ever was was 148 (way too small for me, but thought I was still huge back then)....I mostly stayed between 150-155 in high school (felt like a cow)...now 20 plus years later...I am built differently even though I have no children...smallest I have gotten to in past few years is 199...so I am shooting for 175..but will probably go for 165. I don't want to lose my curves or oo-la-la! lol . I want to be able to comfortably fit into a 14. I see myself so much differently now than then...I won't be 100 % satisfied, but I know I will enjoy it if/when I get to 175/165. Best of luck to all of us with our goals!!!

One year later. The good...and the bad. A truthful post

I am sorry about your complication. I hope it all goes well & you feel better soon. Congrats on your weight loss. And I agree - men can be piggies! lol -
Misty - I rarely bought WW products...they are $$$ and many have too much sodium. I worked the WW program without their products, which is very do-able. I agree with you - it is all a money racket...every diet program or product out there is a money maker...and they constantly change to get even more money...I'd like to have a 1/10 of the money I have spent since about age 12 til now on diet stuff...and now even WLS is a money racket...when doctors are doing wls on people who only need to lose 25-30 lbs - who have no health problems - the drs are doing it for the money.
-
Fiddleman - I recommend it because WLS is so drastic...WLS is permanent...I think it should only be for extreme health circumstances only. WW is a realistic, healthy way to eat and it can be a permanent way to eat if a person can stick with it for the long haul which is very hard for many of us like me - you can't think of WW as a diet, you have to think of it as a way of life...something I wasn't able to fully do even though I lost lots of weight with WW - I was 'always doing WW" or "on the WW diet" - and it has to be a lifestyle change with food and moving, you know what I mean...you can eat whatever you choose as long as you count the points, and of course, the healthier the food choice - the lower the points, and the more unhealthy foods are higher points..so it teaches you to make better choices. I love the support at the meetings and I have to have the accountability of the scale every week, sleeve or no sleeve. My computer is going crazy as I type now, so I guess I will end this post.

Weight Watchers is AWESOME! I lost 100 lbs three different times prior to surgery with WW and exercise. A permanent injury cost me my mobility nearly, so I could no longer do the exercise, so I had wls to keep my mobility. I still go every week to WW for the support and accountability of Mr. Scale. I am not following the points anymore or anything because of this sleeve of mine; I don't eat enough to count points. I highly recommend a person choosing WW instead of wls. You just have to choose to make it your life, not just a diet.

Down over 140... The Process: Finding My Personal Power
luckysmomma replied to Writergirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I need to talk to the little girl in me and the young teen, and even the young adult...I know I have issues from over the years I need to work out in order to be happy and healthy. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I look forward to hearing more. Again, thank you. -
I went to Lane Bryant...they fitted me to a 40DDD in a convertible bra (I think that was what it was called) - it lifts my boobs and supports them...I look so much smaller in shirts now when I wear that bra...I had been wearing like Playtex/Just My Size, Walmart crap, bras or just any kind of bra from anywhere inexpensive pretty much in 44C...I mean, my boobs are not big at all & they have always been saggy - even when I was skinny and didn't really have to even wear a bra....so when she first measured me and brought me that bra size...I laughed, but I couldn't believe it fit...and gave me such lift/cleavage! lol Best of luck to all of us with our boobies, our hair, our skin and all else!!!!!

I call it 'putting your mirror up'...every day...look yourself in the eye and say 3 good things about yourself...even if you are having one of those days when you can think of a thousand bad things internally to yourself...say something positive...even if it is just "I brushed my teeth today. I flossed today. I did the dishes.".... I read once for every negative thought we think about ourselves...it takes 3 positives to cancel it out...I have been doing this for a few years now...sometimes it helps me, sometimes it doesn't, but I keep doing it...because I am determined when I get to goal to enjoy life...I have been thin before - as far as the scale - but because of my negative self-image...I never felt it...I felt as awful at 150 (because I wasn't 120 like Cindy Crawford who is my height) as I did at 318 (all time highest many years ago)...and I am determined to be happy with myself & in many ways I already am...and I think my 3 positive thing is helping me to feel that way. Best of luck to you with the job and all else!

Question for people with small dogs
luckysmomma replied to Rachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dogs knew something was wrong...my house dog - who normally walks all over me - would just cuddle up against me, but didn't walk on me through that first month of hell...he would lay his little head on my belly like he knew it was hurt. My outside dogs who usually stand & hug..didn't...they just wanted pats on the head...animals know. They are so, so smart. You will be fine. Best of luck to you.
