    6 Month Diet

Sometimes it is tough to say what they are looking for. I am forever a skeptic of insurance companies and I believe they will look for any reason to decline a claim, regardless of the true benefit to them or the end user. Your doctors office should be able to tell you what it is they expect. Do not let this discourage you. Do the best that you can and let the chips fall where they may. Any steps you can make pre-op is a step in the right health direction.

    Does it really matter?

    Acascuse me?
  4. The more I think about this, the more I realize that the only people who can give you a valid and valuable opinion on WLS is someone who has had it. Everyone else just does not know. Period. They can list stats and media stories and horror stories all they want, but it is just stories that they have heard to support their position. But honestly, people who care about YOU and are true friends will understand this choice and support you no matter what. I mean... if you were to tell the same people you were going on a diet, would they tell you... no, no, no... don't do that... it is dangerous and not support you????? of course not. Surgery is just a medically altered diet.

  8. One trick I use for this impossible task is to keep your drink glass off the table - If I eat out, I will not order a drink, not even water. At home, just do not get yourself a drink. It can help some.

    Uhc Choice Plus

I think it would depend on how organized your DR office is. I also do not believe that UHC allows this without a 3 or 6 month medically supervised diet. I could be wrong, as there are a lot of variables from one policy to the next. However, once UHC gets the file and everything is complete, approval can be very fast - 7-10 days.

Why is this forum even here?

your rant is based on rantless rantacles who rant less then the regular ranters rant when there is nothing else to do but rant.

    School 20 days after surgery?

the walking might not be an issue, but carrying a 20 pound backpack will. Might need to find a way to keep that down to 10 pounds or less.
  12. You have to find the balance of slightly pushing yourself and not over doing it. It took me 5 months to be able to do actual exercise. 3 months were shot just recovering and adjusting to the sleeve. I lost a lot of weight right away and that zaps energy and I was exhausted every day for a long time. But it got better. I pushed through it and eventually I got stronger and less exhausted every day. I think that part of it is physical but a bigger part of it is mental. You have to break the sedentary lifestyle barrier. When you live a long time at such a high weight, you program your body and mind to be a non-active person. Not starting to exercise daily until 5 months was more a mental/motivation issue than a physical issue. I was more active than before surgery, but not really exercising. That is how it was for me and it will be different for everyone, but if you do not find the inner motivation and block out the "reasons to not exercise" you can be trapped in your mind to delay what you "know" you should be doing. On a side note - being so big and overweight also meant I was really out of shape - starting to do actual exercise required me to start slow and build. I chose swimming and at first, I could only swim for 10 minutes. Doing it every day has helped my build up and I can swim a lot longer now with less breaks in between laps. If you can swing going to a pool, I highly encourage swimming. It is easy on the joints and the muscle work out is great.
  13. Sometimes our bodies get into "ruts" when we are consistent with our daily life and every once in a while we need to change things up.

    Got god?

you think that the increase in our violence is due to people not believing in god???????? silly fattie - that has nothing to do with it man.... its the video games and movies.

    Got god?

The truth is... we live in a world of reality and religion is not reality... it is faith. If everyone would keep their faith to themselves then the world would be a better place. The world does not benefit from you telling me what to believe or have faith in. I can choose that for myself. Religion is the original scam. Before telemarketers and door to door salesman and snake oil. Believe if you must, but leave me out of it.

    Fitness accountability

There is no secret - magic bullet answer. It all comes down to good ole fashion hard work and desire. Walking is the best 1st step. Set some small goals. take a 5 minute walk down the street in the morning - then a 5 minute walk mid day, then a 5 minute walk in the evening. Make this "your time." Every couple of days, turn the 5 minutes into 6, then 7 minutes. Go at the pace your pain will allow, but try to get the pace up so your heart rate will increase. Changing from not activity to active lifestyle is a huge challenge and you not only have to overcome the physical pain of moving more, but the mental challenge of forcing yourself to do these things. the hardest part is starting - if you can do it for a day, then you can do it for a week. Then you can do it for 2 weeks. You can do it.

    Telling family

It is up to you to decide what you think is best. I told a few people. Close family members, people at work, some neighbors. I have not heard one single negative comment. What I have learned is... at least my belief... people struggle with this topic out of their own insecurities. I do not mean this in a bad way - we all (fat people) have to battle with demons and insecurities every day and they sometimes overcome our lives, which in some part can contribute to being so over weight and getting us to this point. Telling or not telling does not change the eventual outcome of what will happen with your relationship with the individual. Delaying in telling only delays what will ultimately happen in the relationship. If they were going to be against you getting the surgery... most likely they will be against you having had the surgery when they find out about it and that ultimately will will effect your relationship moving forward in the future. Having people supportive of this life change is important and you will find that the "new" you will naturally seek the company of more positive and supportive people and will think less of those that choose not to be supportive, even if they are family. It will hurt, but doing this truly gives you an honest picture of who truly loves you for who you are. I found that with people in my daily life knowing what I am doing helps me stay motivated to follow the program. I am somewhat of a people pleaser and these people are generally pleased with the success I am having with this programs, which in turn helps me work harder at it. Just some thoughts I have from my perspective. Good luck with this decision. I know it is not easy.
  19. I track anything that is not a consistent staple for me. I have a lot of regular items that I know know what they have - how many calories/protein/carbs/sugars so anything new I track to learn. It helps me learn what I can have and how much. The things that I regularly eat, I know fall within my goals, so on days when I just eat the norm - I don't log.

    Excercise

Maybe swimming might be a good alternative for you - it is good resistance training and no impact on joints.

    Liquid diet nightmare!

I think that you will be surprised at how little you will crave food after surgery. Once you commit to eating the proper things and eating small amounts of the right foods - you will find that this is no real concern at all.
  22. I want to make the most out of my swimming sessions. I swim either early in the morning or late at night (8pm). What should I be eating before and after my swimming sessions? I am primarily trying to lose weight with the swimming (5 months post op). Already lost 115. Any tips would be great.
  23. In my opinion, some people's biological/genetic make up does not allow for diet to = weight loss or more specifically sustainable weight loss and quality of life. In such instances surgery like this is the only thing that might help.
