#160 lost 1 year post op (w/ pics)

Congrats...you look amazing!! I love that you pointed out there is a 100% chance that the fat will cause complications/death for us. I'm pre-op and when I start getting scared thinking about the surgery and journey that follows, I remind myself that if I don't do this, I'm going to die of obesity related issues. And that's definitely something I don't want to happen!

    GERD

It stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease....it's acid reflux.....I have this too and have wondered the same thing because I do not want it to get worse. I was hoping it would get better:)

    Easier than i thought

I know 3 people who have had the sleeve: 1 was released to go back to work in a week and the other 2 were released to go back after 2 weeks. I'm hoping when my time comes, I'll only have to be off work a week or two.

Need some help getting my groove back...

Bree, if you have that much shame and self-loathing issues, then I would certainly think getting a therapist would be a good move. They can help you work through all of this and I think that's something that you should go ahead and start now. I have read many posts on here where others have said that they still see a therapist even months after their surgery, just to help with all of the changes they are going through. I'm sorry you are feeling this way and hope everything works out. Best wishes in your journey

Need some help getting my groove back...

Bree, I agree with laura-ven.....I know it's hard, but I think you should make the effort for him and for yourself. You know that he loves you and that means he loves you the way you are. Whether or not you can do a lot in the bed and whether or not the hoo-ha is trimmed up nice and neat or it's au naturel, I don't think he's going to care. He's going to enjoy making love to his wife. My late hubby always told me he didn't care what size I was. When I gained so much weight, he told me it was just more to love on

    Psych Eval....

I actually have two psych appointments...I had one earlier this month, where the therapist just talked to me and asked questions....things like that. I go back tomorrow to take either an MMPI or Millon test. And then he sends his report to my bariatric doctor. However, he did tell me that he does not say that someone should or should not have the surgery....he said that's a decision for the individual to make, not him. He just wants to make sure that they understand this is a lifestyle change and things are going to be very different than what they are now.

    Any Oklahoma Sleevers

That's great to hear! I have a friend and a couple of coworkers that had their sleeve done at Bailey's also; they had nothing but good things to say as well. They did not have Dr. Katsis, but he is actually the surgeon I will be meeting with next month. So, it's good to hear you say he's great:)

Oh, wow....I agree with you about what support meetings should be. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Bailey's. I guess I will see how it goes for me when I go to one:)
  10. It's okay. I'm scared, too. After numerous failed attempts at losing weight (mostly keeping it off once I've lost it), I have decided to have sleeve surgery. Each day, I go through a myriad of feelings about the surgery: hope, because I know that I will feel so much better once I've lost weight and can hopefully get off my medications; fear, because I've never had any kind of surgery and the thought of it pretty much terrifies me; excitement, because I will be able to shop in the regular size section of the store for the first time in YEARS and I will actually be able to walk more than a couple of blocks without thinking I'm going to pass out or even die. I have started all of my pre-op testing that has to be done and my insurance also requires a 6-month diet...I started everything the beginning of January. Again, excited and scared!! I have a good support system, but figured it didn't hurt to join VST and get a little more. I've been reading the forums since November and have read a lot of good information on here, so I actually created an account today.

I will be having my surgery at Bailey Medical Center in Owasso, when I get to that point (just started my journey January 2nd).....I'm required to attend at least 2 support group meetings (1 before surgery, 1 after) and have not been yet. Why did you think the one at Bailey's was worthless?

    Who Are You?

Hi, I have been reading posts on VST since November, but finally just created an account. I made the decision to have the sleeve and went for my initial appointment on January 2. I have started all of the testing that is required, but my insurance also requires a 6 month diet, so I still have a while before my surgery. As far as who I am......let's see......I am a 40 (41...in three days) year old mother of an awesome 18 year old son, who is a senior this year. He is my world! His father died when he was 12, so it's been just me and him since that time. Not really sure how I'm going to handle him going off to college in the fall. Lots and lots of tears I'm sure, lol. I have an amazing sister and brother-in-law and the most awesome 4 year old nephew of all time!!! He thinks my son is the greatest thing ever, so we spend as much time with him as we can. Hobbies include: reading, scrapbooking, quilting (need to finish my first one so that I can move on to my next one), computer/video games, and I've just discovered a LOVE of going to painting classes at Pinot's Palette (as you can see from my profile picture). I'm looking forward to continuing my sleeve journey and I think this site will make it so much easier. I have already found so many great posts on here and am sure I will continue to do so.
