Hi everyone. I joined the board back in May and just discovered this forum. I was banded on 5/18 at the University of Chicago with Dr. Prachand. I'm down 60 pounds and want to lose another 90. Take care, Sharee

Don't you hate it when people compare you with GB patients?

There are only 2 similarities between the surgeries. Protein first and the are both weight loss surgeries. -
I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago. Since then, I've learned that it is tied to the diabetes on my father's side and there are also studies going on that connect it to sleep apnea. I went off the pill in July and had a cycle every month except for November. I went low carb for a couple of weeks and my cycle came last week. My reproductive endocrinologist didn't put me on Metformin because he knew that I was having wls. I also belong to the Soulcysters website. They have a forum dedicated to wls. My weight loss could be better but I was unable to exercise until a few weeks ago due to surgery on my feet. I gain weight quickly but I lose it fast as long as I exercise and don't eat refined carbs.

Actually, our mayor is Richard Daley. He's been the mayor for almost 20 years. Barack is the junior senator for Illinois. Prior to that, he served in our state assembly.

does anyone have feelings for their lapband doctor?

I have a crush on my surgeon. I can't wait to see him on 12/19. -
Many people aren't aware that Oprah stated she would support Barack prior to him even throwing his hat in the ring. Personally, I vote on issues and will be doing so in 2008. In addition, when I went to Atlanta, by the 2nd day I was talking with a southern accent. The same thing happened when I went to Bangalore for two weeks. I was training 10 people and adopted their mannerisms and sayings. That's what communicating properly is all about.

If you've ever been to Detroit, you would understand why Eminem talks the way that he does. It's no different than growing up in NYC. NYC is separated by money more than by race. Therefore, people of all races tend to hang together in the hood. When I worked in customer service, I would actually get callers that would say, "thank goodness, I found someone who isn't Black to talk to." LOL. Sometimes they said things that were even worse.

If we didn't make tasteless and crude music record labels wouldn't sell it. If record labels didn't sell it we wouldn't make it. It's a neverending cycle. I refuse to buy or listen to the crap that is being promoted. Thank heavens for Common, Kanye, Mos Def and Talib Kweli. -
I am well aware of the saying "Me Against My Brother". I am only 32 and have been stating for years that WE have no business interfering in places where tribal feuding has been going on for centuries. I am not advocating the US military going to Sudan. I am stating that you were not entirely accurate about the current situation.

There are Christians in Darfur that are being slaughtered by the Arabs and Janjaweed that run this region of Sudan. These are the people that implemented Sharia.

Can you tell me where you went to your seminar at? I went to the University of Chicago. -
Six months in -- how are you doing?

Hello my fellow May Bandsters! I was banded on 5/18/07. I am down 60 pounds in 6 months. I haven't gotten a fill yet and look forward to doing so in January. -

I just read up on Ken Tillery. He was murdered over gas money for $50, not because they singled him out for his race. The FBI investigated and determined that it was not a hate crime. -

I respect people because they're people. I don't look at how they talk. Since I was a spelling bee champ, I'm more interested in that. I just think that it's shameful that respect is tied to the way a person speaks? Unless someone uses curse words in every sentence, I don't withhold respect for them. -

Most Black people that speak "ebonics" have a very limited education. It really blows my mind that someone has to speak a certain way for you to respect them. Unless someone disrespects you, they should automatically be granted respect due to the fact that they are a person. -

So you don't respect people that have a lesser education than you? I wasn't aware that the folks that you named above spoke a different language. To ME, it's just English. -

I'm not annoyed at all. I wanted to clear up the jet black skin comment. I definitely don't think that kangaroos are hopping around Sydney or Melbourne. In addition, I wanted to make sure that it was known that we have definitely assimilated as much as the other nationalities in America (even when we weren't accepted). A long standing story was that immigrants knew that in order to fit in when they first came to America that all they had to do was call us the "n" word. Black people have always wanted to be accepted and acknowledged for our contribution to this country. I may not like some of the things that happen, but I'm not going anywhere. Unfortunately, for us it was a long road. Not to mention that we've sabotaged ourselves. BET and crude movies don't define me and the people that I've encountered where it defines them, I stay away from. -

I had one of those back in 2002. Wanted to get married and everything. I had to do a "move-move" on him. Stayed on one side of Chicago, when he thought that I'd moved to another. LOL -

You're young and your time with a great guy will come. Continue to work on yourself and enjoy that precious life that you are carrying. Don't let anyone or anything stress you out. I lost my child at 7 months back in 2001 and I'm sure that had something to do with it. That guy was a "call me when the baby is born jerk." I just got out of a 5 1/2 year relationship that was headed nowhere. He's a good guy, just not the one for me. He said that I ran over him the whole time. LOL. I told my new guy that I wouldn't do that to him and he said that it doesn't matter because he won't allow that. When we realize that banging our head on a wall hurts, we stop doing it. -

I can understand where you're coming from. I have trust issues also. Thank heavens that I found a guy that is willing to work with me on them. Wish me luck. I thought it had something to do with drugs. I come from a Law Enforcement family and a criminal is a criminal. Just like is Barack Obama Black enough? I don't vote based on color or gender. I vote based on issues. It tees me off to no end when I hear people ask that about him. My family is from New Orleans. I refuse to allow someone to compare the fires in California to them. They had money in CA and have a better state government. I am pro-life for myself, pro-choice for others. I'm learning how to shoot a gun and I believe in the death penalty as long as it's applied proportionately. Yet, I cry when I see the news that someone was murdered or abused. It's who I am. Age really does mellow you out. Except for my friend Kim. LOL -

No one said anything about free speech and please believe that I am so much better than Al or Jesse. I'm guessing you're from Jasper? Unlike you, I understand that a town can't be blamed for a few of its resident's actions. When did I comment on slavery? I didn't ask for reparations and I don't do handouts hon. That word does not and has never defined who I am. I am Sharee. A strong, independent, Black woman that is in college to better herself. You need to calm down. I'm sure that all of your anger isn't good for your baby. Unbeknownst to you, most Black people are quite conservative. I am on the Bill Cosby side of things. Stop having babies out of wedlock and do something for yourselves. The "Man" is not keeping you down. Please don't lump me in with everyone else. I believe that racism exists in all races. Blacks are harder on one another than they are on anyone else. Which is why I would prefer that we stopped using the word to let other races know that it's unacceptable. Just because it's on BET, doesn't mean that it represents all of us. You mentioned debate earlier, yet insult me by comparing me to Jesse and Al? Completely and utterly laughable. -

Screw it. I'm going to go all out on this one. Your friends and anyone that says the word even in a joking matter are ignorant. I correct anyone that says the word. I'm not a weak person and I don't tolerate b.s. It's wrong when we're called fat by skinny people or other fat people. That being said, I am realistic to know that the word is never going to go away. The basis of compassion and empathy is that you apply it to people that you don't even know. You've dealt with a lot in your life and I don't doubt that you're going to raise your baby in a loving and caring matter. You are immature, but having a baby SHOULD change that. Unfortunately, it doesn't always happen that way.
