My boyfriend was sure I was going to die. I love it when he is wrong. Fair play though. I would be terrified if my daughter were on an operating table.

15 grams of carbs/500 or fewer calories a day until I lose 100 pounds?
ElyQuint replied to Mel1071's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Run like hell. No. Seriously. Run like hell. -
Iron deficiency will also cause this sort of "rash" its cracking in the corners with flaky red irritated skin. I upped the iron intake and use avocado oil to wash my face now and voila, no more cracks, rashes or acne!

Is sex better as a thinner you?
ElyQuint replied to AR40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanna say after 6 months I suddenly have a labido that does not quit! I went from 0 to 60 when I hit 80 pounds loss. -
Wow! 600 calories a day is super low. I'm 6 months and average 900. It takes calories to burn calories. Anything below 700 and i dont lose weight. Everyone has a different number. My magic carb number is 40 net grams daily, anything above that and I don't lose weight.

I can paint my toe nails without panting; I can shovel snow without fear of a heart attack; I can sit in a booth without discomfort; I don't need to eat before I eat publicly; I care more about me than I do french fries; I can shave my legs in like five minutes instead of fifteen, I don't run into things all the time; I don't feel like I'm taking up more than my share of space anymore; I am already (6 months) so damn grateful! Fellow post-ops, please share your gratitudes!

I'm 6 months out and 80 pounds down. My struggle is not with motivation or self discipline. It is with self love. I'm too lazy to put effort into my tiny meals says I'm not worth the effort. I'm too lazy to exercise says I don't love myself enough to do it. Every time you decide not to exercise or put love and creativity into the fuel you consume you are saying "I am not worth that effort". Do not negotiate your self love! The children in your life are watching. If you, the center of their universe, are not worth self love, how can they be? Food isn't meant to be exciting. (It can be with effort) Its meant to fuel you to do exciting things with your life. Now get up, and love yourself. If you think exercise and eating right are tough, try chemotherapy, dialysis or congestive heart failure. That's where lack of self love really ends. And every time you put off self loving behavior you are wasting valuable time. You are never going to feel like doing the work. You have to believe you are worthy of the work. And do it. Its now or never. -thats all I got. If that doesn't help watch Mohammed Ali documentaries.

I cant drink those protein shakes ! Help
ElyQuint replied to Lisa1826's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Please share recipes as you find them. I love discovering cleaner more veggified foods! I'm going to experiment with making some nut cheeses. -
Wow Miss Mac! Congrats on your escape! My man nearly died about a pie. I'd HAVE to murder a man who out and out had the nerve to act like that AND was stupid enough to sleep in my presence with guns in the house! Bless you!

My doc said 10 days before and after.

I have gained 14 lbs in 4 days! MAGIC (FML)
ElyQuint replied to MN_Thin0211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay calm! Nah. Give it a good cry! Kick, scream and curse. This may be the last time the scale betrays you. You will have your vengeance soon enough. I promise. It is physically impossible, so its obviously not real. Your body is panicking cuz you sliced off 3/4 of a major organ. You already know its water. Its that sh#thead scale. Its trying to sabotage your mental chill! But you have physics on your side. You should spit right in its digital face. (This is the hardest it gets.) -
Ugh! Rock in my stomach!
ElyQuint replied to Karen12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better. Last night I put guacamole and melted cheddar on top of half a morningstar griller and put it in ranch dressing. No negative effects. Also makes a good lettuce roll up. -

ElyQuint replied to Karen12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah. Morningstar products were tough in the beginning. Go with Dr. Praguers. They are mushier and easier to digest. I went back to morningstar at about 3 months and eat them super slow! Also add something wet or saucy. It helps. I take a sausage patty and lay a fried egg on top using the yolk like a sauce. -
I also ate a lot of soups at that time. Always added cheese for protein. The hardest part is the lack of veggies. It gets better as you learn to work it. Feel free to reach out. If I'm really short on my numbers I grab a tall sugar free vanilla breve from Starbucks.

Hi fellow veg! Weak and tired at this stage is normal. What food texture are you allowed to eat? Are you ovo-lacto? In my third week I was allowed mush. I had wet scrambled egg with cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, almond butter, vegan egg salad, veggie delites souffles.

This thread seems to have lost its focus... lol. I def have heightened munchies. In fact its the only time I experience traditional hunger. My stomach growls and everything. I micromanage my food with mfp. I don't smoke alone, I don't negotiate my numbers and I have lots of high protein low carb snacks. Plan plan plan.

My man still struggles. He is afraid NOT to give me chocolates and the media tells him that I lie to him about my wants. Further, he likes to feed me. He thinks he is taking care of me. That is how he loves. Slowly he is learning that dark chocolate covered roasted edamame says I love you more than Russell Stovers. Be gentle, his life is changing and he hasn't a choice. In the interest of full disclosure my man made several pies in the first 6 weeks of surgery and I nearly smothered him.
-
I had a tough time too in the beginning. It took a month before I felt anything like normal. Whey grossed me out and the collagen protein shots were worse! I added instant decaf to the chocolate shakes to cut the sweetness, cut them with almond milk or heated them up like cocoa. Mushy foods couldn't come fast enough.

I have yet to meet someone who was able to meet their liquids goals right off the bat! In fact most folks I know continue to be challenged by it, myself included.

Yes. I used to drink a bottle of wine easy. 6 months out and I'm suffering a hangover from one glass.

I cant drink those protein shakes ! Help
ElyQuint replied to Lisa1826's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I got sick of the shakes fast and even now when I drink them (6 months) I get grossed out. Now I make protein hemp muffins using vegan powders instead for protein light days. What about them makes you gag? -
I can't eat wasabi any more and I have to keep my curry on the mild side. I can have spiceful foods but foods with a lot of heat, not really.
-
I was just thinking. As a celebrity perhaps she doesn't want to reveal her real numbers? People are always weirded out when I give em my weight. Maybe telling Mario Lopez isn't easy.

net carbs and sugar alcohol?
ElyQuint replied to abarta83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like sugar alcohols are the "artificial sweetener" of the future. In other words, its a scientific miracle that one day they will tell me causes cancer. I try to avoid them but don't always succeed. -
Ugh. Reading this thread from NY while expecting our 2nd foot of snow. So envious! Can't wait to take this new body out and show it to the sun!
